You're gonna do a "Break-in" with that expensive stuff???

I do mine with good ole cheap(ish) regular FMJ... And "zero" my scope with it too... Then fine tune my zero with the good stuff! So much cheaper!!!

A round fired, is a round fired as far as the "Voodoo" commonly known as Barrel break-in is concerned... Unless of course it the Tubbs FFS, but thats a whole 'nother can of "Voodoo"

Working at a gun store has its price perks :). I have some Xtac or cbc 5.56 for getting on paper.

All that is left is the Ranier barrel and boresight. Lets hope for next week!

New and improved with magpul fde Duracoat:

HATED the krylon rattle can job, LOVE this paint job. Could not have come out better. Still need some fde rail covers, buis and a tan sling but it's coming along. Not sure if I like the vertical grip or prefer it without.

Scope?
Leupold Mark AR 3-9 Mil Dot. light and simple. my range goes to 500m so it should be decent for that.

Very nice - both of them! Now you just have to drag them down the driveway a little... Oh wait! I see you already have!

ETA: What's the barrel length on the pistol - 11.5" ?

You should see the other side

10.5" (I know where you're going with this)

Tried out the recce yesterday. Not bad, I wasn't on top of my game so my groups weren't awesome

Shot 75gr BTHP hornady stuff at 200yards with 3-4" groups. It's a SR15 mod 1 upper with a Mk6 CMR-w 5.56 reticle.

Actually I wasn't going there at all - I am doing another pistol build and although I really like the 11.5" ballistics and reliability, the entire idea is or a very compact 'SHTF while traveling' gun, and that will likely end up being a 10.5" - am planning on a SIG Brace and LAW tactical folder. My goal is to it it in a 3-day GHB. Anyway, I like them both - but the pistol really interests me. Do you have pics up over in the AR pistol forum?

No, I don't think I ever put pictures up. I will take one later on probably, and throw it up.

Just saying, I've got a 9" .300 BLK AR... with the stock collapsed, it is maybe an inch shorter than a non-SBR Tavor with a 16.5" barrel.  I mean, I like ARs; but if you want a compact, non-NFA rifle, that Tavor is pretty sexy.

Sorry, I did what I hate most

Psa upper
Psa SS .223 wylde 16"
American defense recon x mount
PA 1-6x gen 2
And the rail length is 12" MI gen 2 t series
BE Myers FH

Pretty cost efficient setup, and shoots great

Headed out to the range tomorrow. I added an MBUS PRO for a front sight (I guess it's okay) and a weaver 45deg mount to the rail and put my TRS-25 on it for a backup. I really like the setup, it's fast :). I picked up 2 more Pmags in 20rnd for the bench/prone shooting too.

pic whoring for the evening:

That's their FDE. I've been contemplating spray painting it but decided to build another carbine and I'll spray paint it instead

I've been an occational lurker here for years but have only recently gotten into ARs. I hadn't been a big fan of the AR for a while, but the great accessability and affordability and commonality of parts really helped to change my mind.

I'd gained enough experience with ARs throughout the years though that I knew what I wanted out of my first build. Strangely enough my rifle is almost complete with how i envisioned it should be, which is a Recce. Even though I had idea that what I was building was an actual type of build.

The only thing left to add is a scope. I've settled on the Primary Arms 1-6x with ACSS reticle. I'll probably wait until winter to buy it though as there are some other things we need to fund right now.

Thanks. I've heard great things about them and the price is just right. When I first started looking into optics I knew I wanted something that could have the dual function of CQB and long range. I kind of expected to get stuck in the 1-4x range since lots of companies make them. After reading some experiences with Primary Arms I checked them out and couldn't believe they had an affordable 1-6x!

Even before I started the build I knew I wanted an optic that could harvest the widest range of capability out of the AR. The longest I've ever been able to shoot was 200 yards due to the limitations of shooting ranges where I live, but this build was meant for SHTF type stuff and I live in a really rural area. If Stuff really HTF, I wanted a more accurate rifle than my Mini14, which is what I sold to help fund this build. I've been in contact with a close farmer that likes to shoot on his property so I'm really hoping to see what I can do with longer ranges.

I'll have to post pics of it here when the scope is donned.

I hear ya, pretty much the same boat for me. You won't find a better scope for the money for that purpose.

The reticle is amazing

My barrel was had a bit of surface rust in some places so I took the day to break it down and scrub it down with some bronze wool. Now it's back to being shiny.
