Just got my upper back from John Thomas (Retro Arms Works)!
The work he performed is exceptional! I now can finally say that I am finished and satisfied with this build! 20" Mckay 1:7 chrome lined M16A1 barrel taken down to ~13" Correct .625 FSB used: Note the shoulder behind the crush washer: Purrrrfect! 5 lbs. 13 oz. as she sits: <Headed off to get the good camera....> |

Yes - very nice! I love those IDF cutdowns...

UPDATE: The book went out for formatting this morning. I hope to have it live sometime this weekend! Thanks guys! (You know who you are.)

Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile Since I sent JT a complete 20" M16A1 profiled barrel, a complete re-profile is unnecessary. That said, on some of these barrels there is a little too much "meat" on the portion that the FSB will be mounted on so he may have to reprofile that specific section (that was the case with mine). From the research I have conducted, it appears as though variances in this area are common as that section of the originals was never intended for mounting a FSB. Here is a pic of what the barrel I sent looks like: I selected the following services: - Cut and thread barrel - Mount sight base - Drill gas port in barrel $20 - Assemble complete upper - (FREE) Check headspace (if you want the headspace check done, please send the bolt/bolt carrier you intend to use with this gun) - Test fire and sight in (John Thomas supplies the ammo) - Return shipping/insurance on a complete upper - Reprofiling of barrel - Entire barrel reparkerized - John Thomas can reduce this cost substantially by only reparkerizing the affected areas (muzzle device and FSB sections) but there is a high probability of a color mismatch due to the nature of parkerization. |

CAR stock, fulton armory A1 grip (which was pretty rough for "good" condition), and the flat slip ring showed up today.
Also spoke to Harlan at Nodak Spud and backordered a retro lower. |

Noveske makes lots of barrels. Your barrel is probably one of a few dozen in the US. |

Izzy is lookin good tho! Its been hard to resist - but this one will stay rail and suppressor-less. Its light and handy, one of my favorites. Plus it takes all of 30 seconds to take off the dot and DD rear and put the A1 CH back on if needed.... |

Kiss carbines only exist for picture time, then they get loaded up with rails and AN/PEQ-15's and surefires, until the next picture time then the standard handguards get put back on. Lol |

Anybody running an A2 aperture on their A1 or C7 upper?
I've got a like-new 723 style upper inbound from the EE, and I'm fairly sure it'll have an A1 aperture on it, but those suck a big one. And so I think I'm going to replace it with an A2 one, because big hole/little hole makes more sense than little hole/slightly higher little hole. It's sort of a moot point since it'll end up wearing an Aimpoint or clone anyway, but I don't see the point of hamstringing my iron-sights just to be type correct, if there is such a thing for a 723 or GUU-5/P. |
|
|
I have two C7's and both sport A2 apertures.
|
|
|
I prefer the A2 aperture myself. I wouldn't use it on a 'historical' build, like my XM16E1, but everything else gets one.
