Do you guys think the 14.5 is worth the price, if your not into cloning, just based on quality and performance alone?

I have the 10.3 URGI and an 18 inch SPR (DD stainless barrel, not clone). Feel the urge to get a 14.5 or 16 mid-length. Its either 14.5 URGI, KAC or LMT.

I would get the 14.5" URG-I because you already have the 10.3".

I think the G is worth it. If you are ok with proprietary barrels and whatnot the KAC and LMT are good choices as well. I have 13 and 9.5 MK16 rails and like them a lot. Also have a 11.5" URGI that on order. Good stuff!

No, as the kit comes with the rail, mid length barrel, gas tube and gas block.

Everyone goes thru learning curves.  I started doing CQB with M16A1s, M3A1 SMGs and PVS-5s in the mid 80s at Mott Lake.  Later hose clamped MagLites to M16A2s.  We've come a long way.

Plus not everyone in SOF is a gun guy to begin with.  An X-ray or former supply guy might not have any idea what’s going on until a self-critiquing event happens.

@CD have you had/seen any gas tubes making contact with the front of the G MK16 barrel nut?
I just installed one & about 1/8” of the gas tube is touching.

Probably balance.  Definitely not effectiveness.

All that shit at the end of a 13.5" hand guard is heavy.  Bring it in closer and it'll be a lot less fatiguing hold for long periods of time.

All that shit on a 7" rail with the switch pad on a broomstick VFG is lot more balanced and easy to carry IMO.

I’m probably going Aimpoint, too.  Glad to see a Comp M4S in the background.

Has anyone heard about the in-house barrels Geissele is allegedly going to start selling these with?  At the SHOT Show, one of the guys at their booth told me they would no longer be selling them with Daniel Defense barrels but rather their own.  Although he did tell me that the military would still get DD barrels as that was in the contract...

That sucks if true.

As long as they continue to sell the MK16 on its own, cloners can build their own correct URGs. There hasn't been a factory offered 100% correct URG anyway.

Agreed. That would suck if true.

If so, it would appear I waited too long. Unless it's being sourced by FN or something like that...

I haven't been keeping track of things. Sounds like you're talking about the Duty and Super Duty uppers. Also, it wouldn't be a URG-I without the DD barrel, so maybe it's being discontinued?

The barrels that are available on their website seem to indicate that they are button rifled. The Duty rifles seem to use these barrels. The URG-I near clone upper and the Super Duty rifles/uppers indicate that it's a CHF barrel. There are no CHF barrels currently available on their website, so it makes me think that they'll still be using DD CHF barrels... Maybe....

Although I seem to remember a few months ago Geissele sold off a bunch of DD barrels on their website. I can't remember the lengths. Maybe offloading some old stock to use their own? I'm really curious what we'll be seeing. Hoping for DD...

It's not correct for a URG-i clone and G barrels do not have nearly the reputation that DD barrels have built over the years. I'm sure they are just fine but G is new to the barrel game. Even the "near clone" and previous "clone" complete uppers that were sold are not correct and what the mil gets, the G gas block and mk12 block respectively are not what is issued.

So really the only way you are getting a "clone" upper is to build it yourself nowadays. Buy a MK16 rail (hope for the NSN Marked variant), colt upper, and DD CHF 14.5 mid with the gas block complete from DD(which always seem to be out of stock everywhere). That setup gets you exactly what is issued to the military in the URG-i kit's.

DD has them in stock but not with the correct lpgb, stripped or with fsb.
