Finally got form 1 back to SBR, and finished this project.  Still needs to be refinished, but here is a rundown.

Wood was bleached, scrubbed and sanded.  stained with rit, mixture of orange and brown.  About 15 or so coats of truoil, 0000 steel wool between coats.

Muzzle nut weld cut off, duckbill flash hider and detent/spring from CNC warrior added.

Taiwan made sidefolder from akbuilder.  I skipped the 5th rivet that would have run afoul of the serial.  Had the holes from the stock virgin trunnion welded up.  Cut the left side of the reciever, but not the right, and ignored the 4 degree/ 6 degree difference between the stock m92 receiver angle and a 101 sidefolder angle.  the front latch has to be placed further down to clear the trunnion, so this extra 2 degrees helps in the end.  folder latch holes were drilled and filed by hand.  Also, the front latch spring is too tall to fit between the receiver and the front trun, so i unwound two turns out of the spring and reshaped it so that it would fit with the minimal clearance available up front.  Its a pain in the ass, but doable.

So, there you go folks, proof it can be done.  As long as you dont mind skipping one of the rivets on the rear trunnion.

Cut a rail section from some thing my buddy found in the trash at work  drilled and tapped the top cover.  Gunkoted the rail section and added a Fastfire III

I shot 3 gun with this krink yesterday (before the fastfire) and took 2nd overall. :)

The US Palm grip looks better than the original, do you find it more ergonomic?

the US palm grip is the best AK grip on the market IMHO...the ergonomics are superior, and the amount of additional leverage it provides during reloads is worth the money.  It is as good as the Tapco SAW grip, without looking fucking retarded...like the tapco SAW grip.

How much does that 2 degree difference affect how the stick feels? Is it better to ignore the difference or remachine the back of the receiver?

I got a m85 project too , one question I have is; whats the best option to deal with the bulged receiver? extend the stock latch or notch out the stock to fit around the bulge in the trunnion?

still curious what kind of mag bag that is? i tried a web search for orange mag bag

also your booster looks shorter than mine, are they different?

thanks

Hit up Comstock Rifle Tack.  Its the "discreet heat" chest rig.  I had him make me one in "bakelite" orange.

I think our boosters are the same.  I got mine from ak builder if i recall.

First of all thanks for this post and great job on this project. Just last week I received my M92 for the sole purpose to SBR it and maybe making it quiet..
I've considered several stock folding options and to me the A frame is the most attractive and light option available. Unfortunately, this is also the hardest unit to be installed.
I've looked at several AK forums but for some reason they are hesitant or don't like sharing information except for your post in the AKFiles.

I'm not a gunsmith but I'm very handy and I've done my share of successful mods on several other units of mine and this is one that I'm exited on tackling.
Surprisingly when my unit arrived at my FFL, I immediately realized that CAI have relocated the serial numbers to the front left of the receiver, just above "Zastava, Serbia"
which eliminates the issue of the 5th. rivet problem.

http://i835.photobucket.com/albums/zz278/MAD-MAX-D-1/guns%20misc/image-13.jpeg

I do have some technical questions regarding the front latch and other details. Would you mind if I PM you for some of your knowledge on this project?

Thx.
Max

Does anyone know if when drilling the hole for the latch pin for the retaining latch in the front of the receiver, Is it a must to remove the front trunnion w/barrel or can the trunnion be drilled from the outside without removal?

Also, can I just use a AK74 sidefolder rivet kit for the rivets needed to attach both front and rear trunnions? I believe that both the AK74 and the PAP M92 are built on 1mm receivers...

Thx.
Max
