No that wouldn't make you an ass...but you wouldn't be building a MK18 clone.
It would be a sweet SBR though |

I think personally I am going to build a "true blue" MK18 MOD0 (10.5 LMT upper on an LMT Defender 2000 lower) as accurately as possible, then shoot 1000 or so rounds of PRVI M855 and see what needs to be changed and what's GTG. I can always sell the things that don't work... |
|
The MK18 Mod0 is a cool gun as is. The parts it is made of wouldnt seem to amount to much alone or seperately, but when combined they come together great and is a pretty sweet set up.
|
|
I'm thinking about putting a 10.5" bbl. on my LMT CQB as a patrol/CQB rifle that will ride by my side in my patrol car. Don't have much experience with SBR's and was
wondering how reliable the shorter barrel guns are and if I need a Gasbuster CH. (I'm a lefty...) This will be mainly used for urban type stuff, under 200 yards, I will be keeping my 16" bbl. rifle in the trunk for rural patrol. I've heard some people say that 12.5" is more reliable than the 10.5" and that it gives adds about 200fps. Any truth to this? |

Dont get the gas buster if you are a lefty...it will redirect all of the gases into your face if you shoot NoseToChargingHandle (NTCH). |

Here's a question, does anyone know if the MK18s built on M4A1 lowers received the "MK18 MOD0 Carbine (anchor) Crane Indiana" laser engraving or was that only used on the MK18s built on M16A1 lowers?
ETA:well from everything I am seeing no they are not...I could be wrong. |
|
Doin' what a MK18 does best, great pic Neil!
I notice you've got your VFG at the end of the rail. I prefer this on 7" rails as well. Running a VFG in that position makes using a Surefire millennium hard to use without tape switch. Are you using a tape switch or are you running a different light? I have been thinking of abandoning the M962 in favor of an X300 or Scout for my MK18... |
|
Since this picture, I have moved the M95 light I have on the gun to the other side, and I use a tape switch... thats what the bike inner tube is doing on the vert grip. I keep the M95 on the gun for the sale of keeping it authentic, but the M600's and X300's are much better options for a light on a gun. They are smaller, lighter, and in many cases almost as bright with longer run times. They arent as bright as the M96, especially if you are running the MN11 bulb, but thats A LOT of light for a little gun. Not to say there arent times when that much light isnt in order...

Full pannels on the top rail are bad. They restrict A LOT of heat dissipation. If you must have something, put a ladder bar or something which will protect the rail, but allow air flow.
|
|
i've got ladders, but they don't look half as cool ;)
Will try though.. |

What's up with the taper pins? Not in all the way ETA, it would have taken some time longer to get it and i on the fence on whether or not i will be using a mk18 rail i have. |

Lousy pic, but i just got a 10.3" package from DD and I thought you guys might like it http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z152/eternal24k/001-13.jpg?t=1252019736 I may have to rethink the LMT upper. ETA: Are these available yet? Did you get it from DD direct? |

Dont tell me you take the RAS off to remove the top rail panel?... You just slide it off over the upper reciever, after you pull back on the charging handle (leave it back) and lock the bolt carrier back. |
|
Yeah, I do the same.. through the upper.. but now I fear something..
I will be changing my RAS for a FF RAS.. and I am affraid I will not be able to do it anymore, since the the barrel nut is bigger than the delta ring, it seems.. At least, Im getting this problem with my other M4, equipped with a free float Daniel Defense handguard |

Um, no rail removal (be hard to do with an 11 rib panel covering the RAS allen screw). I meant just having to remove your gear off the receiver, reinstalling, then re-zeroing. It's especially aggravating if you need an allen wrench and more Loctite for the BUIS. Thus, I decided long ago no more KAC panels on top - just press-ons. |

The LMT sight is a little worse though... |

Great looking carbine!
Where did you find the RIS? I have been looking everywhere for one. |
|
The front tab on your rail is over the hand guard instead of under it. |
|
thanks!
Just noticed i put RIS but its actually an RAS. I always get em mixed up. Edited the post to show the correct spec |

ADCO just built me a Block II MK18 clone for One Zero marketing photos. I'm in Iraq though so I'm not going to see it for a while.
I did mine with pri and GG&G tritium sights, and a Vltor Emod and MIAD grip, running the SF EO tech. It will be a while for pics, but my brother is going on leave sometime soon, and Brad, our US based manager of Sales while we're deployed, is planning on helping my graphic designer make an ad with it. So maybe that will work out. The real MK18 I believe comes with a tan A2 grip, but the furniture and sights aren't that big of a deal as most guys swap them out anyway. I'm excited to see the stupid thing. |
