Nothing beats the sound of the original radial engines throttling up and going........

They used DC-3s in P.R. when I was a kid. We traveled a few times on them.

Why'd they use PT-6s? When they could have used the far superior TPE-331 series.

Really cool aircraft to climb aboard and look around on. As Far as PT-6's, they are the most popular Turbo prop around, something like 70% of planes use them, so logistically you can't beat them, you can find parts everywhere, even in Africa pretty easily. |

A lot of drug smugglers buy from Baslers.
All those neat hidden hatches between the bulkheads are a give away. |

Saw one doing "aerobatics" at the EAA Oshkosh airshow one year......it was doing things that Donald Douglas NEVER even dreamed of!!!

DC-3/C-47/C-117 was a hell of an airplane. I have flown in a C-117 many times. I can't imagine how cool it would be with turbo jets.

New life to a beloved old bird... however, not the same for me, I grew up listening to those "old" engines, whose wonderful sound will always turn my eyes skyward...

We had a local guy get pretty prosperous in the fast food business back in the 70's and got himself a turbo DC-3 in company colors.
Got busted and lost the whole works for doing some "freight" business down south. |

I was up there earlier this week and saw T-38s, Harriers, Apaches, and of course the expected Bell traffic. Is that typical at AMA? I'll be spending quite a bit of time up there in the future, I might have to do some camera shopping and find an off-field spot to hang out!

There was a Hawkeye? at the FBO today. 8 blades per prop. Yep, E-2 Hawkeye. T-38s, T-6s we get all the time. Had some CH-53s this week also. F-18s come through regularly. |
