Quoted: I don't believe it matters how we feel about it the question is can we do anything about it. That's probably a resounding no so I guess we take our feels and fuck right off. View Quote This... anyone that has the tech & ability to travel the distance to get here, watch us undetected by the vast population, and colonize a planet would be able to just fry us like ants under a magnifying glass. |

Quoted: I'd question their "peaceful" claim. If you have the tech to travel the distances involved, there are no doubt near infinite systems within their reach. Why move in to an already inhabited one? View Quote Thats a good question. Given their superiority could they have taken Earth? If they could why wouldn't they? Did they provide the strongest possible signal of their peaceful intentions by not taking Earth? Maybe they couldn't easily take Earth and established a base for invasion, but it seems like Luna would be a better choice. Maybe they want to trade, maybe they are excited to have neighbors. Maybe they want to keep an eye on us! |

I couldn’t do a damn thing about it anyway so it doesn’t matter.

Why move in to an already inhabited one? View Quote Agreed, but in this case they can engineer a viable atmosphere in their outpost or engineer the planet's "specifications" to meet their needs. Meaning, potentially not everybody like 14 degrees C average temp, 1080 kilopascals atmospheric pressure, 1 gravitational attraction force, a 24 hour day, 21% oxygen 77% nitrogen 1% argon atmosphere, 149,500 km from a G-type main sequence yellow dwarf star, the presence of a large, close-orbiting moon, 71% coverage of surface with salt water, a biosphere so diverse it could be the apple of the quadrant's eye, seasons which stretch the living conditions, most of the landforms in the northern hemisphere, etc. |

Quoted: Could those of us who wanted out of global communism on earth (assuming that's the endgame here) go live on their planet as pioneer refugees? View Quote In my example, the colonists are intending on building a large cosmopolitan city with technological advancements and freedom to live how you please - no "malum prohibitum," just the obvious "malum im se." |

Quoted: Quoted: So the Secretary General of the United Nations comes out in a worldwide press conference and says, "Remember those aliens we told you didn't exist? We've been talking to them since 1945. They're peaceful and will be colonizing Mars (or Venus, or some moon around a gas giant or Sedna, it doesn't matter which)." How would you feel about a peaceful, but obviously superior alien race colonizing a planet or a moon (not ours) in our solar system? Can we send Nancy Pelosi with them? She will figure out a way to register them to vote then tax them |

If aliens came near enough to earth to see our news and movies, they would steer clear of the place.
Lately, it's an open air asylum. With nukes. |

There's a light-years-wide bubble around our planet they've been able to hear and watch for decades. Funny part is by the time they get here, they'll be very familiar with Nazis. And very confused when they arrive. Attached File |

I’d wait until the aliens found oil so we had an excuse to invade

Maybe they’re already there
If they’ve been there for a very long time, not much we can do about it now. Other than prepare And if they just got here, it’s the democrats fault. Especially Ted kennedy and Walter Mondale. The USA should have had manned Mars missions and maybe a semi permanent base there and a permanent base on the moon by now, if it weren’t for their socialist garbage. |

Quoted: As long as they take out the chicoms for us they’re A OK. View Quote So you want them to engage in some nationbuilding and replace a corrupt regime to free the oppressed people there? Yeah, that sounds like the kind of plan an advanced spacefaring civilization would undertake. Assuming they just take them all out, I think I'd still prefer to risk occasionally encountering poisoned Chinese dog food at Walmart rather than whatever products the Zerg are going to make...probably out of former chicoms. |

It would seem they have no problems observing us now. Would they attempt the same thing in a system populated by a more advanced civilization that had the means to reach them? We exist, they exist, seems that would indicate at least a high probability that other advanced civilizations exist, there must be other advanced civilizations that would be more compatable for them to trade with. Encroaching on the real-estate of a far less advanced society which really doesn't have anything to offer you in trade makes me suspicious. Mineral or elemental resources shouldn't be a problem for such an advanced civilization, seeing as, again there should be a nearly infinite number of uninhabited systems to mine. Leaving only animal (including us) resources to be of interest to them. The big question is what are their interests in those animals since they are likely the only thing truly unique about our system. We couldn't do a thing about it, so its all irrelevant. All we can do is hope for the best and prepare for the worst, although again there wouldn't be much we could do. |

That's been a speculative theme. Different species overlapping into the same space.
A big question is would they be colonizing something we had no interest in (eg not o2 breathers), or would we actually be in competition with them? If they were peaceful, I guess the question is could we stay that way and keep from poking the bear? Track record, not so good. |

China has already claimed Mars as part of their South China Sea territory, so the aliens can have fun fighting the commies
