Quoted: As a life long Floridian I take hurricanes seriously. A TS is a wet blustery day. A Cat 1 can cause down trees and power outages. It gets worse with Cat 2. Cat 3 and above is a major problem. God help you if you are in flood zone. The real ball buster is the eyewall. If an eyewall goes over or near your house you are going to be fucked. If you live on or near the coast you should take any hurricane or TS seriously. The only good thing about this storm is that Florida has been relatively dry this rainy season and this will will replenish the aquifer. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: For the non-Floridians on the forums, my fellow FloBro is basically saying that real Floridians don't get out of bed for anything less than a category 3. Explain the “if the eye wall goes over or near your house you’re going to be fucked”. I’ve had it happen 2 times and i was never fucked. It all depends on Intensity and home location. Enough sensationalist stuff. Yes bad things can happen cat 1-5 but the general statement you’re going to be fucked is weather channel level DOOM |

Quoted: In general they can predict the path with reasonable certainty. It’s not a 100% perfect model as Ian and Charlie can attest but most of the time they tend to be correct. Predicting a storm’s intensity is another matter entirely. That’s one area they really haven’t been able to quite nail down. When I went to bed last night we were looking at this hitting as a strong Cat-1 or a weak Cat-2. When I woke up this morning is was already at a Cat-3. It won’t surprise me to see this come ashore as a Cat-4. I’m still planning on French Toast though. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Reminds me a lot of Ian. My basement expert opinion is it won’t shift much in direction but the next 24 hours will show what she will do in intensity. More models are already agreeing on cat 3 for a short period. Storm surge will be the other story. |

Two things: The weather channel has thrown my wife into pure panic mode.
2nd. 99.5% of the time storm surge predictions are utter bullshit. People in West Florida are losing their minds over this storm. I predict it hits New Orleans again. |

I bet if I had cable tv, and went on TWC, after the 5 minute propaganda on white man made imperialistic capitalistic climate change caused 200k deaths from triggering a volcano once, this next storm 'could be' a category 15 with 450 mph winds. Since there are so many sharks in the water, we 'could see' up to 2 million retiree shark attacks, even if you live inland by 5 miles, shelter in place because you won't survive.

Monday morning look at Idalia. Winds now 65mph. Starting that move north.

Tallahassee was in full panic mode yesterday. I saw a guy with an 8’ bed F250 completely loaded with propane cylinders, a family at the hardware store buying about a dozen gas cans, and when I stopped in Costco a guy with a flat cart and a wide eyed, panicked expression saw a case of water on my cart and asked if they had a limit on water - I’m just assuming he probably bought 10 cases, must be pretty thirsty. Every gas station has cars lined up to fill gas cans.
Panic hoarding is in full effect now. |

Well, guess our group decided to delay our drive up to North Ga. Supposed to leave tomorrow... Need to stick around just in case it hooks east just a little earlier and to make sure servers are up and ok at work before I take off Wed. morning now.
EDIT: Scratch that... Wed. morning driving up 75 would probably be a bad decision looking at this mornings update. ![]() |

Not sure if I should bail now or hunker down at a family members place. It figures. |

They now have "evacuation sirens" in Pinellas County to start and /or exacerbate a panic.
Too funny. I recommend "The Purge" siren tone. The newly installed sirens will let the barrier island residents know when they are under a mandatory hurricane evacuation. Captain Glen Smith of the Indian Shores Police Department says this is just another tool for officials to let everyone know when a hurricane is threatening and they need to leave. https://www.wtsp.com/article/news/local/pinellascounty/indian-shores-siren-test-emergency-warning/67-3bc7776f-24d1-46e4-8f34-22cfd671754e ![]() The Purge Siren For 5 Minutes |
