I found one with 118k miles in super shape for 7K.
I have never had a muscle car before. What are your experiences with this car? It has 327 hp and is immaculate. I have always wanted a car like this since I was a kid. It looks fast. LS1 motor. Leather. UPDATE: I have problems with it cranking everytime. It is not getting a spark. Plus...I am getting new plugs and a tune up. The brakes and rotors need work and are being fixed as well. ALSO: It is not a Formula....It is indeed a Trans Am. I love the car....motor and transmission are in great shape according to the mechanic. The car is very nice for its age. The interior much better than most older cars. No tears in the leather seats and the 12 cd monsoon system works fine. |

I have a 1999 Trans-Am 30th anniversary edition convertible. Fun car! Do it!
Did I mention I'm the original owner and the car has 4,100 miles? It's a safe queen |
|
It's a turd. Go test drive a Nissan Maxima with a CVT and floor it. You'll forget all about that firechicken.
|
|
They are fun cars. LS series motors have endless aftermarket parts and make more power every time you look at em wrong. Manual or auto? Go to LS1tech.com and kiss your life savings away
|
|
Build quality is pretty bad on those cars. The unibody is about as stiff as a rubber band.
They can be good cars with some work. I would spend more and get a low mileage one since most of these cars have probably had the piss beat out of them. Or just spend a few thousand more and get a C5 Corvette.. they solve many of the f-body issues out of the box. |
|
don't get the 99....get a 01 or 02
there are "differences" eta: since there are some tard haters in here.... lower miles are better, the LS motor is a top notch platform to upgrade and a very easy motor to mod, the 4l60 is a weak link if its auto, and the clutch will need an upgrade if its a stick pull the pan if you can and that will tell you alot about that motor with that many miles texas speed, thunder racing, and norris motorsports will be places you spend alot of money at suspension, bolt ons, gears/axle, transmission, motor......in that order |
|
I autocross a 99 Z/28. The 4th-gen F-body is a great engine and trans in a pretty mediocre chassis. That said, the suspension is about as good as it gets for a vehicle with a solid rear axle--unequal length control arms in front, torque arm in back.
If you want a car with enough torque to spin the tires at will and put a silly grin on your face, go for it. If you want a modern, sophisticated vehicle, run away. |
|
One with that mileage ask the owner if the oil pump has been replaced.
If not you might want to if you buy it. Ask me how I know. |

Sounds like a red one that I saw about 6 months ago, Red with Auto transmission.
I was looking at a vette that the guy had. He was selling both. |

Not a muscle car but I get it. Seriously, plan on spending more than you think.

Had a 99 Formula. Loved it! Miss it now.
Message me with questions if you like. Good bang for the buck! |

they are fun.
not very fast by todays standards if stock. they rattle. The door handles break. they are a royal bitch of a pain in the ass to work on under the hood. Interior parts are cheaply made... they break and squeak. all that said though; there is something to be said for the f-body cars that holds your attention. I'm a big fan of the ws-6 cars myself but they are either way more than the price you're looking at or so beat that you wouldn't want one. |
|
Had a Firebird. Fun car. Quicker than the average grocery getter.
NOT a muscle car. Technically, I think it's a Pony Car... eta: FUCK headlight motors... just sayin. |

Change a pulley and or head unit and they are fast. But most likely ubable to find in the 7k range. |

Mmm, yes, that 6 cylinder screaming in protest at a constant RPM while torque steering in the "4 door sports car" is the absolute definition of invigorating. |

6 cylinders aren't all that bad...
I'd happily take a Supra.. or a Regal G/N |

A h/c/i improved 5.0 with a blower and some suspension mods would be a better bargin. Also 4.6 3v 05-08 Mustangs are coming way down in price due to the Coyote 11-14s plus the new 15s. |

My son who is a car saleman drives a new maxima and he found this Formula for me. He said he would rather have the Formula and the only reason he sold his 2001 Z-28 was because he needed 4 doors for their newborn baby. I think we know which one he likes best. |

Love Firebirds, I have owned many of them over the years. The late fourth gen LS engine cars are great and decent fuel economy (my 6 spd Collectors Edition got 26-28 miles to the gallon between OKC and Dallas)

I forgot to add that I will be paying cash about 6500.00 not 7k for the car.
I don't want a modern car...I want one like this. It's more old school to me and I love that about the Formula. I drive less than 3000 miles a year. Seriously! Just always wanted one of these and wanna enjoy the t-tops when the weather gets warmer. |

Seriously though, I knew a guy at the local track that put drag radials on the car and was spraying a 200 shot. was getting 11.8's in the 1/4. CONSISTENTLY Everything else was stock minus the CAI. |
