Easily my favorite gun channel on Youtube. I can literally spend hours watching his videos, and he obviously is very mechanically inclined.
Always wondered what his story was, I assume he has some type of mechanical engineering background. |
|
Studied mechanical engineering IIRC. His dad was also a huge, well-known collector of Japanese military firearms (was even interviewed for the old History Channel Tales of the Gun program) and that's how he got started with guns.

I often think that he has forgotten more about guns than I will ever know...... Ian is good.....

Love his videos.
I am not positive, but he MIGHT have worked for a gun store here in AZ. If it wasn't him then there is someone who looks a lot like him with the same name that did. All I know is that years ago I was at a store when some guy brought in a weird gun and the main gun counter guy directed him to their "expert". At the time I was surprised they would do that and made note of their go-to-guy. Later when I saw FW I wondered if it was the same guy. |

I've been hooked on his channel lately. It's like porn for mechanical engineers.
Yeah Ian, show me that flapper lock. |

He worked at gunsmoke for that idiot Rich Wyatt from American guns.
Here's his AMA https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.reddit.com/r/guns/comments/29fdw6/forgotten_weapons_ask_me_anything_47pm/ |

What gun? I'll make sure I check the video out. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes |

He was 27 in 2011 per this video, and a bartender after college.

Dead serious. He's even mentioned in a couple of the Q&A videos. Apparently his pops gave up gun collecting for a new hobby, even though Ian has obviously transcended what everyone thought possible about the limits gun nerddom.

Some people call Ian the Gun Jesus.
Seriously though, he has very informative firearms videos on his youtube channel and is very knowledgeable. |

He's pretty awesome. Not only an amazing researcher and gun expert, but also by all accounts a genuinely great guy.

Super nice in my experience
I’ve run into them a couple times in gun stores and they seem super friendly not kidding. I ran into them last at a store called Murphys here and he was Messing around with an Arasaka. I almost bought it like it was some gun-Jesus relic. |

If I recall correctly, on the Primary & Secondary podcast he's indicated some kind of active work or a background in network security. Regardless, the dude seems to know a lot about a lot of shit.

From his Spinal Tap hairstyles, I'd put his background down as heavy metal music and habitual masturbation.
Add in a long leather overcoat & you've got a match for 87% of the white males in the West Midlands of England... My mate from that part of the world summed up "the look" best... "Excuse me, are you in a band?" No "Well get your fucking hair cut" |

I watch his videos every day and wish I could meet him some day. His videos are fun, fresh feeling, and informative.
Ian often does the gun matches in Phoenix or Tucson from what a friend of mines tells me. The same friend also told me he heard from other people that not everyone likes him. Apparently he was told that when he has the chance to shoot someone else's firearm to do a video, he doesn't clean it after, and gives it back dirty, then asks for another one to borrow. I don't know the validity of that claim as I have never heard of it elsewhere/I don't know personally, so I don't really believe it until I see it. |

I like him, but I know folks complain about his voice
I was glad to hear he wasn’t your typical basement dwelling ARFcom expert in all, especially pizza delivery |

I met him a few years back, he seemed likable enough of a guy. I'd love to get him in a pub with Karl and turn the gun nerd conversation to 11.
I know he has a background in ME, and has stated several times that the purpose of forgotten weapons was to document the history of as many firearms as possible as their simply isn't a decent source out there. |

I suppose everyone is different, but I wouldn't be offended if I was in that position. If I have a gun rare enough for Ian to want to shoot, I'd probably prefer him to not try to tear it down to clean it in the middle of the desert with no previous practice. View Quote |

I have seen time literally freeze in one of his videos.
It is his video on the RARE Bendix-Hyde Second Model Prototype Carbine. It is at '9:49'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JoL5pXB8Ln4 |

FW videos are very soothing. I often fall asleep at night watching them on the ipad.
Not because they're boring, but because Ian's talks have a calm, measured pace. If our son was still a baby, I'd try Forgotten Weapons in the nursery to put him to sleep. |

"Hey man, would you mind cleaning the gun before it came back" It would happen, I'd get an answer that satisfied me why not or we'd have a discussion about why he wouldn't be getting ny more loaners - if it were an issue to me personally. But zero angst, Jesus. Assuming none of these guns going out of the owners sight, it's not practical where I've seen most of this stuff go down.. Although Ian's obviously has a good amount of experience, everyone drops shit. Lose a key piece that's unreplaceable, yea...n. I'll clean it when I get home, cool vid, thanks. |

I get the feeling he played a lot of D&D, back in the day.
ETA: His is probably my favorite Youtube channel. Could watch that shit all day. |

I think Ian is an engineer of some sort and Karl is in IT.
I met them both several times at their 2-gun match at Pima Pistol Club. Nice folks. |

A couple of days ago Ian issued a correction on a fact he got wrong.
A seven minute long correction that not only said he got a fact wrong, but went into detail about the correct way the British Army measured a rifle's accuracy OVER A HUNDRED YEARS AGO. Only a serious researcher would do that level of correction. I have watched all of his videos and even the old ones are well done. And if you ever want a lesson in how fast a left-handed shooter can work a right handed bolt action, watch him shoot his 1917 Eddystone. |
|
Seen Ian walking around at the S.A.R show in Phoenix last year.
