Do you think M855A1 will ever become commonly available? Why or why not?

Would it not follow since M193 has, M855 has, that since libtards failed (thankfully) to classify M855 as AP...since it's not. That M855A1 should eventually?

I hope so.

Not as regular M855, but probably like how it is now, or just a bit more available. Hope it does though.

Nope

Eventually yes.

Why would you want something that needs a specially designed magazine to function in your rifle while it chews your feedramps out?

I mean, if you want it then buy it, but I don't see the big deal of having any.

Yes, in time, when contract batches are out-of-spec they'll be surplussed. Happens over time with pretty much every US military issued small arms round.

One would think that as M855 gets phased out and the upgraded M855A1 becomes the .mil ammo of choice, the production will be ramped up. That opens up a number of venues for 'pull downs' and ammo lots that don't quite make government criteria.

Once the orders are filled for the military and their purchasing slows some, I can see more first quality M855A1 becoming available on the civilian market.

Maybe, but it'll likely cost as much as, or more than, the SMK/TMK/BSP ammo we already have that's better in every way terminally.

isnt 855a1 technically AP and we almost never seen the black tip AP in the civi world right?
Link Posted: 4/5/2019 2:22:30 PM EDT
[#10]
I'd imagine, decades ago, before internet boards, people were discussing the same thing at gunshops and get-togethers:  "You think that new M855 (no A1) will ever become commonly available?" "Why, you want some high pressure, inaccurate ammo that won't stabilize in your 1x12 SP1 or 1x14 Remington 700?"

Doing some reading on it, it doesn't seem to confer much performance advantage.

You could load regular 855 projectiles to absolute max loads and get the same effect.

In fact, the velocity of M855A1 may have been a bit optimistically estimated to begin with.

If they do it's gonna be pricey.

This old chestnut,

How about the fact that no other services other than the army want anything to do with m855a1.

Yes, after the army adopts joglee’s new caliber.

No
What's magic about it, beyond it's ability to keep barrel makers in business?

I would be concerned about it tearing up feedlips (or so the basis of the Gen3 pmag design)

So? Similar statements could be made about MK318 and the Navy. (Mk318 is excellent, but it's a different animal)

Nope.

It is considered an AP round, and AR pistols and all that.

You won't ever see it in quantity, IMO.

I have some rat holed, but I don't really know why, except it's hard to come by.

Source? As I understand it, it doesn't meet the definition of AP.

Army ordnance has a rich history of fucking the American soldier. This is no different. A jack of all trades master of none round. Not a big enough increase of anything on paper to warrant service wide adoption.

There will always be a contingent of people that cling to it like it’s the best thing ever, but it’s not.

The round is more accurate than M855.

i'd take a 3:1 ratio of mk318 over 855a1 any day.

A1 is cool and all but not at its price. mk318 is pretty damn good round and especially at its price. i recall the early reports from marine over on lightfighter i think it was, saying it did its  J O B well.

It could be could be considered AP but no official ruling. Considering it's being sold online, be it in small quantities, I would guess the ATF doesn't seem to care.

Eventually I imagine m855 will be phased out of production or greatly reduced and m855a1 will hit the market as canceled gov orders get canceled or gov demand decreases.

so whats interesting there..... is that no mil branch uses m193 right? but they still make it for civi's.

anyone think the demand is high enough in the civi world to maintain 855?  i dont care about but lots of peeps do.

good point on the ATF letting those small batches trickle out and no one has gotta the knock-knock.
