What caliber would one like that will kill any and all animals in AZ?

Usually go with 10mm over here, wondering of I even need that in AZ?

I carry 10mm because reasons. Probably overkill, but I don't care.

10mm is fine. 357 mag would be great too.

I could make do with a 9mm too

G29 for me, G26 in town

.45-70 is what you seek.

They have mountain lions so, something like a .44.

But, snakes are more prevalent so something in a shotgun caliber.

This may be the perfect use for a Judge, 50/50 loadout.

10mm is the correct answer.

This should be good to kill any animal in AZ

Depends on where...  northern AZ....a 10mm G20 fits the bill nicely. Down south on the border...I’d go with a G17 or G19x and a few spare G18 33rnd mags.

Oh...and whatever you carry...load the damn mag all the way to capacity...

Hunting where a humane kill matters? Or self defense where any stop will do?

Any handgun stops most bear attacks, even 9mm

ETA when I was hiking in Arizona this fall I carried a 9-Round 9mm loaded with 147Gn HST and one spare mag.Attachment Attached File

No real reason beyond 9mm. Other than you being a bit of a puss puss and not regularly carrying .40..

Snakes aren’t much of an issue. If they become an issue out in the desert it’s usually too late because you stepped on snek. Otherwise they go about their way and most leave them be.

9mm is fine for mtn lion if it ends up in a close encounter, and honestly the best guy would have been better served with more rounds in a smaller caliber than what he had in that G20.

Cheap used .40S&W.

The guns are built right, they have little value, and the cartridge works.

9 mm is fine in 99 % of situations in the lower 48

heck a 22 would probably be fine and definitely better than nothing

Well...

In Oregon you have exactly the same dangerous animals we have in AZ, so...

You knockout the math.

Split the difference and just go .40

That’s what I usually do.  180 gr HST for the street and 200 gr hardcast for the trails.

Police trade in G22 or M&P 40.

Great trail guns that can handle warm .40 rounds.

Firing a warning shot was probably NOT a good idea in that situation.

This is the only time a Taurus judge is the answer.
Snakes are far the greatest threat, and there are lots of them.

Fish might be a cunt.

Jus' sayin;.

ETA-OP, 10mm is fine, but a NAA mini revolver with .22WMR rat shot solves your most immediate threat. Snek.

Was that the one where lady walking little dog got attacked and some guy sits in his car honking at the bear as it chewing on her? I always wondered why the guy didnt drive up and hit the bear even knudge it with bumper Instead of just honk.. obviously he didn't carry. Think it was Show Low

Anything. The only time I’ve had a hairy situation was with tweakers, not animals....I feel just fine with a G23 with 180gr XTP, but would be equally ok with any high cap 9. Weirdos are way more of a potential threat than bears or cougars.
