The MG42 thread went well, so let's try this again.
Full size Uzi, going to try TIG welding this time. Starting with this parts kit:  Attached FileI think I'm going to use this repair section https://www.robertrtg.com/store/pc/UZI-REPAIR-SECTION-80-RECEIVER-161p4277.htm even though it has a blocking bar I can mill that off. I'm still deciding but I will likely use the rear section from the kit because it has decent markings on it. On the other hand it would be simpler just to weld the front on. For those of you that have welded one, jig or no jig? The design is fairly forgiving as far as geometry goes but I don't want to warp it during welding either. I have to get a threaded barrel too.... |

I did one as a post-sample. I used an UZI flat, and a quick homemade bending jig. My welding skills, especially then, made that a more attractive path.

Working on a similar project but I will be doing semi auto only.
Sections cut and being fitted for weld up. Note the Poor Man's fixture. A piece of 0.348 drill rod from McMaster. 36 inch piece of the drill was surprisingly low cost. Some where in the $10 - $20 range. Fits with a little slop but not bad. Cut the drill rod in half. Use one piece for a squib remover and use the remaining as a alignment tool. Insert thru barrel and adjust things until the rod hits the hole in the back plate. Also I have a 1.25 x 1.25 x 12 inches piece of sq aluminum bar stock. Shim it a little to fit well. Use it inside the receiver for welding. Helps with alignment and it keeps the inside cleaner from the welding.

I prefer the Global shells/repair sections, but I'm unsure if he still makes them. I've built a (semi-auto) full size, a mini, and one micro that I keep meaning to SBR.
