Cow killer got my dumb ass on the thumb about 30 years ago.
Same with a large wolf spider, various other spiders, and a baby possum. Never been bit by a poisonous snake, though. |

I Cicada thought I was a tree a few weeks ago.
Shoved it's labium deep into my finger. Holy hell it hurt. I'm diabetic so I'm used to a LOT of needles. This was next level. I guess they really ram it in to get through the tree bark. |
|
Yellow jacket is the worst I've had. We have some velvet ants here, even put it on my hand to take a picture and ask my pest control brother what it was. He told me not to do that again.

I’ve got a buddy that lost one of his thumbs to a Zebra bite. Always thought that was interesting.

Bark scorpion got me in the web of my right hand. Lit my ass up..

Was 17 and kissing a girl good night after a first date. Cow killer got me on the hand right in the middle of it. Yea they hurt bad!

Brown Recluse, but it's a boring story because I went to the doctor a few hours later and got steroids plus antibiotics.

I got stung on the ridge of my ear yesterday by a paper wasp.

I stepped on a Stingray in the Bannana River years ago. The toxins pumping through your system gets quite interesting.

Man o' war got me a few years ago while fishing. That hurt like crazy.

Paper wasp sting hurt for two days. Felt like my hand got electrocuted when it stung me.

We have a bunch here at the farm. Never fucked with one though.

interesting tid bit of info, that ant is considered a wasp. I picked one up with some needle nose pliers and that stinger was at least a half inch long.
I got bit by a skunk on the hand one time, thats pretty unusual. |

When you step on them and they squeal....
Hit by a nest of yellow jackets....came back in extrication gear and poured half a gallon of gas in the hole and rejoiced as this little bastards tried to fly while on fire |
|
Stepped on a cow ant when I was a kid. Felt like a red wasp. I also stepped on a bumble bee that lit me up pretty good, but it wasn’t as bad as a wasp. Yellow jackets are the worst in my experience.
|

Cow ant. I picked it up, looked fuzzy. Theyre actually wingless wasps.
Basically every wasp species in TX. Yellow jacket, red/paper wasp, hornets. Honeybee and bumblebee Fire and and harvester ants Whatever species of scorpion we have. Multiple times Finned by channel catfish. |

The worst for me was a red wasp. It's not unusual, but it was painful.

Bit by a horseshoe crab when I was a kid, sliced my palm wide open
Ground wasp/cow killer on banks of Colorado in Laughlin,NV, looked like a bumblebee without wings. I had stepped on it 4-5 times already and it wouldn’t die, so I punched it. It hurt like hell but ok after about 29 minutes |
|
Sat on a cow killer when I was about 12. Really sucked. Worn out cutoffs and it got me right on right cheek
A few years ago a Brown Widow bit me three times on the back of my thigh. Messed me up for a couple weeks |
|
Hornet stung me in the rib cage when I was riding a dirt bike once..............felt like I had been shot

Thought it would be good to smash a small man-o-war with a stick, while standing in waste deep water. the bits floated around me and just about put me in the hospital. Lesson learned, don't fuck with stuff that can seriously hurt you. |

Stepped barefoot on a buckmoth caterpillar. Felt like my foot was on fire for a while.

We had a place on the river where we shut the power on and off at the pole when we arrived and left. The breaker box opened from the bottom up. I reached under the box to grab the lower lip of the lid and instantly thought I had electrocuted myself. No such luck. I had grabbed a grapefruit-sized wasp nest that was hanging from the bottom of the box and closed my hand on it. In about 5 minutes my hand went from normal to looking like a catcher's mitt. It really hurt. I ended up running 140* water over it later that day. The swelling went down immediately with no after-effects other than the ones you've observed here on ArfCom.

I opened a gate that had a wasp nest on it. Obviously I didn't see it. One stung me on my eyelid. Pain and copious tears (not crying tears). I couldn't see to get away from the fuckers and they were all swarming my head. Hubby saw me and started yelling for me to follow his voice... I was lucky to come out of that with one sting.
Hurt like a mother... My eye looked lovely. |

View Quote We are new to our area and it has vastly different flora and fauna from where we both grew up and found a velvet ant in our old barn last summer. Put it in a bottle to take a photo and were horrified when we found out how much they're supposed to hurt. |

I was bitten by a neighbor's spider monkey when I was eight or nine. A horse chomped on my chest in eighth grade... that hurt. Young woodchuck got my hand when I was trying to pet the kitteh. Reached into a hollow log while rabbit hunting and an Opossum got a hold of it, fortunately I was wearing a glove. Can't number all the times I've been stung by paper wasps, just can't resist messing with their nests. It's like livin' on the edge, man!

Hit a ground nest of yellow jackets when I was a kid. Probably to more than 50 stings. Went to ER, don't remember what they did/game me. All I remember was laying in bed that night and my entire body throbbed..
A few years later, throwing frisbee in a park, it landed on a picnic table. What I didn't know is there was a hornet nest on underside... Got hit 10-15 times. So, much worse than bees! Thank God I'm not allergic... |
|
Last summer I got tagged by approximately (can't remember now) 11 yellow jackets after mowing over their nest. Didn't realize I had one still in my pants and it made it out and tagged my 3 year old on the head.
ETA: My son and I both swelled up a tad, but my kid was better by the next day. Two of my stings were located on my lower back right at my belt line and another on my ankle. Those two itched for about a month. Worst sting type pain I've felt. In the grand scheme of things, my adrenaline was so elevated it didn't hurt as bad as I thought it would, but definitely went back that next day and torched that fucking nest in the ground. |

View Quote When my wife and I were first dating, we were walking along the beach and those were everywhere. I picked one up by the head and threw it at her. Hit her straight in the thing, I laughed, she was pissed. All red and burning. Who knew when they are on the beach they still hurt? |

Fire ants - dozens on my ankle.
Was playing golf and standing next to a tree in the rough waiting for a guy to play his shot before I went to my ball just on the right side of the fairway. Drank a lot of brews that day. Was feeling good. And then I felt a tickle on my ankle. Looked down and I was standing on a fire ant mound. I ran into the fairway and took my shoes and socks off. Playing partners thought I went crazy. Ankle swelled big time, probably 15-20 bites. It throbbed all night. |

Got stung by a huge hornet. Right on my left hand. Hurt like hell.
I immediately removed my wedding ring, and popped five benadryl. Within a couple of hours, the swelling was intense and my hand was hot to the touch. I'm not allergic, this was an infection. They are filthy creatures, that inject you with poison AND bacteria. I went to the hospital and they gave me an IV of strong antibiotics. Had I waited until morning, they say I would have lost my hand. |
