Led Zeppelin and Rolling Stones, in no particular order, are number 1 and 2 seeds. If you feel different you best visit another thread.
One rule is it must be a complete band, and not a performer like Hendrix or Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull [edited for clarity as people are trolling OP thinking OP thinks Jethro Tull was an actual band member]. Bands will be considered at their peak, so no need to still be touring or alive. Who are number 3 and 4? My thoughts in no particular order: AC DC? Always awesome Aerosmith? They had a nice run Ozzy Osbourne? With his band, Black Sabbath, or a hybrid entry? Judas Priest? Enough said for the metal heads Eagles? Not me, but a friend of mine would be offended if it was not discussed Rush? A personal favorite Montrose, the album Montrose? It was a monster and I would consider Ronnie Montrose with Sammy Hagar a contender on that album alone Lynyrd Skynyrd? Hell yea Beatles? GTFO and find a geezer thread elsewhere Boston? Maybe if you're wanting to get laid, but they get spanked in the first round Kiss? Not my favorite but definitely a pioneer with legs Molly Hatchet? Just a joke unless you still have a mullet and live in Florida Post your bracket if you can. Me, I've been thinking about this for several years and still can't pin down my final 4. |

I am not worthy to have missed both Iron Maiden and Van Halen in the initial post, hence proving this is indeed a conundrum at least for me

My mount rushmore of bands/ albums.
Pink Floyd the wall. Ditto . Dark Side of the moon. Ozzy bARK AT THE MOON , oops. Blizzard of Oz. |

Not a Stones fan.

Quoted: Uhh, Jethro Tull was a band ![]() View Quote No arguments but if one cannot name at least 2 fellow band members, then the band was the performer in my opinion. Who played drums for Hendrix, guitar for Alice Cooper, Bass for Jethro Tull? Very few people can answer those questions or even care. |

So yes they are awesome, but not within the boundaries of this final 4. Thank you for your participation. |

Quoted: Faces Jeff Beck Group Humble Pie The Band View Quote I am a huge Jeff Beck fan but did not include him as a band, as to me he is more of a performer. The only band member I can think of that played with Jeff Beck doing anything original, would be Rod Stewart and that was a limited coupling as I remember. |

There are so many great bands from 1965-1980 that it's an impossible question to answer.
Still unlisted: BadCompany Badfinger King Crimson Yes Genesis Uriah Heap The Firm Blind Faith Derek & the Dominos The Traveling Wilburys and those are just off the top of my head. |

Too many genres within Rock to narrow it down to 4.

Led Zep Ramones Nirvana Like them or not, they each redefined Rock and Roll in their own way. |

The Classic Rock radio formula has always been: Beatles, Stones, The Who, The Doors.
Which is what was considered classic for Boomers like me. If I never hear another Beatles song for the rest of my life, I will die a happy man. Still like early Stones. Have hated The Who and The Doors since forever. Classic rock stations, at least in Chicago, are only now starting to evolve beyond the Original Four mentioned above, but still lean heavily on them. They are finally starting to realize that there are people out there who were born after 1970, and that there are lots of other songs that they can put into endless rotation until you can't stand to listen to them anymore. So the final cut for the Top Four really depends on your age and g-g-g-generation. My top four is Cream, Cream, Cream and Cream. |
