Think I only made it past the hover cycles a handful of times on battle toads. I remember playing the turtles too but not sure how far we got. Hard games kept us busy so the parent could run off and have sex.

I suppose the closest analog to hard games in mainstream are the Souls series, but even those become cake after you figure out the systems and farm a levelling area for a bit. I have, however, just started playing Hell Let Loose. It is not newbie friendly lol. |

Make sure they play it on the actual console so that when it crashes repeatedly, they can learn to appreciate the ability to save progress on modern games.
I remember doing all kinds of voodoo to make my NES games work. We did everything from blowing on the cartridge to putting it in the freezer
