A Cessna C550 business jet had left Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas. The plane crashed around 4:15 am near French Valley Airport in Murrieta, California, on Saturday

6 dead after plane crashes in Murrieta

Six people have died after a private plane crashed into a California field and burst into flames.

The flight had left Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas and crashed near French Valley Airport in Murrieta, California, around 4:15 am Saturday, according to KTLA.

The plane burst into flames when it crashed and video from the scene showed the charge fuselage.

The flight was a Cessna C550 business jet.

There was no word on what caused the crashed or the names of the people who died.

'Deputies located an aircraft fully engulfed,' the Riverside County Sheriff's Department stated about eh crash. 'Six occupants from the plane were located and pronounced deceased at the scene.'

It took firefighters about an hour to extinguish the brush fire that ignited after the plane crashed, officials said.

The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the incident.

“Preliminary information indicates…the airplane crashed short of French Valley Airport during its second approach around 4:15 a.m.,” a spokesperson for the NTSB said.

It is the second airplane crash near French Valley Airport in a week

On July 4, a plane crashed at the same airport shortly after takeoff. In that incident, one person died and three people were injured.

Equipment failure?
Pilot fatigue?

It could be nearly anything at this point without an investigation

It does look like a fresh paint job. I can't find pics online with the red tail livery, all the standard white paint.

So vis below minimums for the RNAV... Wonder what the AWOS said, and if the AWOS said below min for the approach, why did he even try to get in there instead of just going to his alternate?

Since he crashed on the second attempt, he knew very well. Makes the question of diverting even more important

I wonder how much "passenger pressure " he was getting to land it at that airport.

Looks like it. saw Juan's report on it earlier.
The 172 crash mentioned that the pilot was the father of the 3 kids inside and that he may not even have had a license.

Looks his rate of descent put him in a bad way. Not a jet driver but if his engines wouldn't stop the descent in time you might expect a SPLAT. Look at the position of the wing relative to the tail/remains of body.

Assuming it's Part 91, it's legal to look/see the approach.

If it's Part 135/121, that's not allowed. You need the visibility to commence the approach.

Not the first time a pilot got a case of get thereitis in the soup.

I heard the offer to divert from the tower to this pilot.  He decided to continue his approach into the small airport rather than the properly equipped and less socked in airport.

Not long after I was forwarded a text from a passenger that I know on it.  He was sitting in the right seat for the ride.  His head went into the panel and cut him up pretty good.  He described what he saw and heard.  The annunciator was barking "too low. Terrain" over and over until the yoke holder quipped "shut the fuck up" and muted it.  Then he saw the field come into the window at almost the same instant as the plane hit the field.  Luckily noone was killed.

Missed it by that much...  1/4 mile short.

The pilot was very experienced too.  He knew better.

Is the C550 a single pilot rated aircraft?

Between the weather, where the crash was, and the fact the aircraft was very active leading up to the crash, those holes in the Swiss cheese are already starting to appear.

The certificate for that aircraft was issued 11/16/22, the LLC was registered 5/25/22. New pilot in type? That's what killed Tarzan.

Considering almost all crashes have pilot error in there, you are probably right

The most dangerous thing about an airplane is the pilot.

Bad weather, 2nd attempt at landing, and crashing short..... weather is a factor and their instrument skills were likely off.

We can wait a year...or two or more...for the NTSB report to come out but there is a high probability that it was pilot error possibly driven by real or perceived pressure from one or more passengers to get there now.
