my M2S-style single point sling. I'm going to replace the ITW Nexus buckle with one like Magpul uses. http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/857/hpim4063e.jpg I was trying to see if I could make this work with a 3 point to 1 point sling. If you look on page 10 there is a sling that look sling that looks like it would work. I'm just trying to figure out the 1 point part. I'm thinking an extra loop would do it. You have 2 going over your shoulder, add one more to come across your chest and that should set up the 1 point. Looking at the original design it appears as if it's too long for it to work as a 1 point sling. IF I can figure out how to make a cheaper version of the MAGPUL I'd put this on my KISS/SHTF rifle. |

Can anyone tell/show me what the mess of buckles near the front of the sling (from the OG post) are for??
I got the kit from strapworks and its the same as the instructions that came w/ the kit, but I do not see the point of the extra buckle. It seems like it could be eliminated somehow |

It seems like it could be eliminated somehow Say your a right hand shooter and have the sling over your left arm and head. You come to a right hand corner where you need to switch shoulder to shoot left shoulder. You can unbuckle the second buckle at the front and now have slack to shoulder the rifle on the left. Hope that helps, I didn't know why they were there until I went shooting with the sling and practice shooting from behind cover both ways. |

I built this sling last night and it works awesome!!!! i wont be buying any tac slings. Gonna make em myself!!! Thanks for this man

Strapworks is having a 40% Black Friday sale starting at 1201am on 11-29-09. I think the rest of the weekend is 25-50% off. I don't know if the ar15 coupon code will still work during these times.

I know the instructions said to use a 1.5" web for the sling, but I have found that a 1" works well. My webbing is not stiff and I find it both comfortable and functional. I have used these instructions to make four of them, one for me and three for friends. They all love them and they work well. Thanks for the information...

I have just built this sling, and have been using it attached to the bottom sling mount on the rear of my RRA collapsible stock. It seems that using the sling slot towards the stop of the adjustable stock would be better. How would I modify the sling to use the factory sling slot at the top of the adjustable stock? I know it might be better to get a better sling mount, but $$$ is a little tight right now... |
|
I simply run the main sling through another piece of webbing in the stock...http://www.trampbrigade.com/images/GEDC0815.JPGhttp://www.trampbrigade.com/images/GEDC0816.JPG

|
No, I used 7.5 feet to make the sling. Simply using the adjustment will add or subtract whatever amount you need to make the sling a comfortable fit. The original instructions say to make the loop 27" which works just fine. I actually pull it a little tighter than that so the rifle rides higher. When wearing gear I must let it out a little more for a better fit.

I tried every dang place my town has that possibly would sell the materials. I'm shit out of luck.
Guess I'll just have to stick with store bought stuff. Stores I searched in, and the only stores that are in my area: Home Depot Wally Weird The Fabric Center- local place Ace Hardware I hate wanting to do a project and being denied due to logistics. |

Not sure if this site has been posted in the thread yet, but the site below offers everything to make this TAC sling in akit for just under $13 shipping included.

I stayed up last night reading this whole thread. I'm still not sure what webbing I need. I don't want the seatbelt crap. I have a couple CQB Solutions, now Specter, 3 points. I love the webbing. What kind is it?
I thought it is the tubular nylon but Strapworks only has that in yellow and teal. That's not going to work. Is it the flat nylon? If so they don'y have it in 1 1/4" like mine. Also it was brought up once with no answer. Where can you get the spring loaded cam locks like VTAC has? Same as on backpacks. All you need then is one of those, a couple of those slides, and some webbing and you have the "all mighty" VTAC $35 sling. |
|
I made a fancy on the fly adjustable sling out of a stock Colt sling and a couple parts off a Wilderness 3 point sling. The red pull gizmo is a piece of tie down. A little sewing was required. It works OK. I had all of the stuff lying around.

So I've been looking for a sling for my M4gery for a while, and I'm sure glad that I found this thread first. So I ordered all the 3 pt. sling kit from strapworks.com. In my searching before hand, i had found a sling i liked. It was similar to the one at the beginning here, but used a cam-lock instead of the double buckle for the Cross Shoulder Transition break point. It is the Specter cross shoulder transition sling, at http://www.spectergear.com/cst_sling.htm So with my AR15 kit order, i got (1) 1.5" plastic cam lock as well ($2.50). With some modifications to the design here and intently looking at the specter pictures, I came up with something very similar. The only difference i think, is that i opted not to put the quick disconnect buckle in right behind the cam lock. Here are the pictures of my finished product with some detail pics of the cam lock area. http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu163/treyr8d/DSC00151_R.jpg http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu163/treyr8d/DSC00158_R.jpg Some sort of sewing would probably be better for connecting the Cam-lock to the slide lock. I used the 7" piece to connect the two. http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu163/treyr8d/DSC00159_R.jpg http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu163/treyr8d/DSC00160_R.jpg This connection type doesnt flow quite as smoothly, but its easy and doesn't require buying any sort of attachment. This way also keeps them at a 90 degree angle from each other so the strap will stay straight. http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu163/treyr8d/DSC00161_R.jpg Thanks for viewing. i like this set up a little better. it looks a little cleaner. thats the way i have my sling attached to my duty m4 stock...works perfectly |

I could not find a local place that sold webbing, buckles, and slide locks for the life of me. I even checked Ace Hardware, and they did not even have webbing in the proper size. After some quick searching through this thread and the internet decided to order the stuff from Strapworks for a total of $13.91 including shipping to the left coast. It took about three days to arrive and 30 minutes for assembly and adjustment.
Awesome thread, thanks a lot!!! |
|
are any of you guys finding the buckles and straps locally? i saw the places on the web for sling stuff...
i went to my local ACE, which is about that size of a friggin' walmart, kind of a super ACE and asked the guys if they had any of the stuff- they didn't have a single buckle or piece of nylon strap...all they had was that super thick webbing used to repair the old school lawn chairs and can someone please enlighten me on the deal with side mount slings (like a QD swivel on a rail system and 2nd mount point on buffer tube/casle nut area) vs. bottom mount (mount below FSB and 2nd point on bottom of M4 stock)??? |
|
Although I can not assist you with the QD swivel, I can say that I get buckles and webbing locally at a boaters store. I find them in various sizes and all the slings I have made use materials from this store.

Great job on this sling. Thank you very much for putting it on here. I just ordered everything I needed from StrapWorks.com for a little under 15 dollars. Can't wait for it all to arrive.

I know I am five (5) years late, but this is a hell of an idea. Strapworks.com still has the kit and discount if anybody is interested. I just ordered mine.
Good stuff |
