I sold my RMR and I'm removing the US Palm upper handguard in anticipation of bigger and better Trijicons and corresponding mounts to come... I have been working directly with RS Regulate on a little project to merge the AK and a TA26S. Updates to follow in the coming weeks.

Here is a picture of my AK M+M M10 with the AimSports rail and the UTG CQB 4x32 scope...

I do have to say i really dont like that rail, it is a two piece, my scope is what keeps it together.

I'm really interested to see how this works out, because I've always thought the 1.5x TA26S would make a great, low mounted AK optic.

Thank you, same here. I have been waiting 2 years for the opportunity to mount my little ACOG on the AK so I will be sure to post an update as soon as get some word of progress from RS Regulate. I haven't heard anything from them since before the SHOT show this year though.

I've been waiting over 2 years... The good news is Scot H. (president of RS) and I have been corresponding since early January and he's promised me he's working on it. He's recently told me Trijicon has sent them a TA26S for R&D and they will have a prototype done soon. After that he said he'll need to gauge interest in the product and then take a stab at production units... So, we're still months away from seeing anything, but it's coming.

Its Bulgarian surplus issued wood.Got from the link below for $43. They have gone up more than double in price since @ December or so.
http://www.northridgeinc.com/store/index.cfm/c168/i1430

I stripped it down and refinished it myself, purposely leaving the original dings and scars on the wood to keep it authentic looking. The stock came with a fugly black type of paint on it, but stripped off very easily with citra strip. I can give you more details on my refinishing technique if you need some help.

I am still waiting on my Vortex Viper PST with capped turrets to come in, and it may be a few more weeks so in the mean time I got my new MI mount adjusted and installed on my DIY side mount. So far, couldn't be happier. The stock still folds flat, the height/cheek weld is perfect, the rings are low and centered, and it's built like a tank. Looks great on there too. As long as eye relief for the scope is good, I think I will finally be satisfied with the setup. I hope so anyways, this will be optic and mount combination number 8.

Nope, but its my Kashtan, however the guy using the red dot is actually having no issues (which I thought was odd)

Here's my entry. This started out as an Arsenal SGL-21. I've added the following:
- Midwest Industries AK-SS extended rail
- Vltor stock conversion tube
- Magpul ACS-L
- US Palm AK grip (stippled by me)
- Dinzag Arms polished Tapco G2 trigger (their polish job is amazing. Highly recommended!)
- Tromix charging handle
- Krebs enhanced safety lever (much easier to use without removing shooting hand from the grip)
- Midwest Industries quick-detach 30mm scope mount
- Leatherwood Hi-Lux CMR 7.62 1-4x ballistic scope
- Brownells Aluma-Hyde II in 'Earth Brown', done by me to help blend into my A-TACS gear. Highly recommended, but you have to let it cure for at least 3-4 weeks.

This is a 150yd target without really trying, using mixed Wolf and Tula steel cased ammo:

I envy your workshop, and the narrower eyepiece of that CMR!

I finally got my capped turret SFP/MOA Viper PST in today, and my excitement quickly turned to a bit of frustration. The outside diameter of the scope at the adjustment knob is larger than I expected it to be, so I had to mount it back an inch further than I want in order for it to clear the dust cover. Because of this, my head is inside the minimum eye relief of the scope when I shoulder the rifle naturally, so this is going to necessitate adding a 1" Ace recoil pad to the stock in order to get my face back away from the eyepiece. I don't like recoil pads, especially tacky rubber ones, and the LOP was pretty ideal the way I had it before, but I'll have to get used to it in order for this setup to work... Mind you, I'm on optic #4 and mounting arrangement #8 for this rifle, so at this point I'm just ready to get something I can live with and stick with it.

Looks great. Can you return the Vortex for the Leatherwood CMR 7.62? The ballistic reticle for the 7.62x39 round is pretty handy. Or is yours a -74?

I have both the Vortex PST 1-4x and the Leatherwood. Both are excellent.

Thanks!

I am just going to stick with the Vortex and add a recoil pad. I will learn to live with it. The CMR would realistically only give me another 1/4'' - 1/2'' of mounting forgiveness because it has a longer eyebell. I compared the CMR 7.62 side-by-side with the Vortex, a Millett, a Burris, and a Leupold before ordering, and I liked the quality, reticle, and glass of the PST the most. It was heavier and bulkier than some, but I had already come to accept that mounting a scope instead of a mini red dot was going to be heavier and bulkier than I wanted anyways, so I wasn't going to sacrifice on the other things. However, I didn't think to compare maximum outside diameter at the time. Like I mentioned though, I'd basically be in the same boat I'm in now even if I had picked one based on the outside diameter, because the narrower eyebells are longer, limiting how far forward they can be mounted in the fixed rings of the MI side mount.

I can't complain though, it sits nice and low, no cheek weld issues here

Yeah, I agree that a scoped AK is heavier and bulkier than is preferable. I have another SGL-21 that is the same setup as above minus the MI Q.D.scope rail (and scope). Instead I have an Aimpoint T1 mounted on the forward MI rail section. I love that rifle/set up. It's pretty light and just plain awesome.

I have had a PA Micro, a Vortex SPARC, a Trijicon RMR, and (sort of) a TA26 ACOG on this gun before I went with the PST. I spent a small fortune trying them on various top cover mounts, handguard mounts, side mounts, and rear sight mounts. I found a couple setups that were very ideal, BUT none of them were working for me. Come to find out I'm both nearsighted and have astigmatism, so the ACOG wouldn't have worked because the nearsightedness necessitates an optic with an adjustable eyepiece, and the red dots wouldn't work because the astigmatism made them blurry or flaring... So if I wanted to ever shoot this rifle without prescription eyeglasses, I needed something with both magnification and an adjustable eyepiece, which is only found on a traditional riflescope. And so here I am.

The AK vice block is made by Crosstac - www.crosstac.com

It works pretty well, but I have found that I need to use two strips of sandpaper between the vice jaws and the block to get the block to stay put while wrenching on the AK.

The setup may not have been ideal without the 1" recoil pad installed but I decided to hit the range today with it anyways to at least get it sighted in. I'm pretty happy with it, but time will tell how I grow in to it. I didn't make it to 100 yards because it was hotter than hell and I had other rifles that I was sighting in and several handloads I was chronographing.

The shooting position I had to take was unbelievably awkward and the rifle is heavy as hell with the scope installed, but I have never been able to shoot groups like these with a red dot or irons.

50 yards, 30-rounds shooting off-hand rapidly @ 2x magnification:

50 yards, 3-shot group shooting from the bench @ 4x magnification:

25-yards, 3-shot group shooting from the bench @ 1x magnification:

For what it's worth, I was shooting Tula 123-gr. FMJ which chrono'd an average 10-shot string @ 2,244 FPS out of my SBR today.

That's impressive for off-hand shooting. Nice.

How heavy is your rifle with that set up? Without a mag, mine weighs 9lbs 14oz.

I don't have a scale to weigh it, but I'd have to say its somewhere between half and three quarters of a metric shit ton

Lets see ...

The Vortex scope and MI mount alone weigh 1.46lbs
A standard Draco pistol weighs 5.5lbs, the stock, folder, AFG, side rail, mag latch, and muzzle device are conservatively 1.5lbs combined, the MI X-rail is .8lbs, and the sling, swivels, sling mount, flashlight, and flashlight mount weigh at least .6lbs.
So that's 8.4lbs without the optic, and 9.9lbs with the optic.
Add a loaded 30 round polymer magazine at 1.53lbs and we're at 11.43lbs.
That is purely based on numbers I got from manufacturer's websites, but it sounds about right. Although keep in mind we're talking about an 11.5" SBR here with an overall length under 33", not even a full size rifle... that's heavy

My Norinco build looks dated by comparison (2008), but it still works for me.

I put a Comp M4 on it to see if it was an improvement... it's nice, but I prefer the Micro.
