Curious what is the advantage in a gas block for a NiBo finnish over the phosphate?

Curious what is the advantage in a gas block for a NiBo finnish over the phosphate? Thanks, Steven View Quote Its a much harder and slippery finish. Makes it tougher for carbon to grab a hold of the adjuster screw and screw bore with NiBo. We have had zero problems with the phosphate/ Oxide combo. Our plater now offers NiBo at a good price and we have watched them get the finish a consistent thickness on other parts so it was time to go ahead and offer it to the public. Also 5.45 shooters will finally be able to use an adjustable block with confidence. Corrosive ammo is tough on small parts directly in the gas stream. We will offer both finishes. Finally Monday the first of these will be ready in .625" and .750" by Mid Week. I'll have pics up of all of them on monday. |

2 weeks the first batch will be ready. Thanks for all the patience. .625 and .750 are both running now. I'll post some pics of the batch that went to plating when I get back to the office. Todd@SLR View Quote Todd, Any estimate as to when you might come out with a .936" clamp-on version? |
|
December is what we are shooting for.
A limited run of .875" and .936". They will require a straight gas tube and only work with .308 Pattern AR Hanguards. I will try and get a Model file up soon. We just need to 3D print it and make sure it's GTG before we start making chips. Hope that helps. Todd |

I guess we can't preorder these? I see them listed on your site, but its not letting the purchase go through.

Got the call. Tomorrow the DA series clamp-ons will be back here at the shop and will go up on the site Thursday afternoon.

If I'm reading this thread correctly, the soonest we will see .936 clamp or set da7's is late this year?
EDIT ... duh... that's what is says like four posts before this... never mind :) |

Thanks for the update Todd, have had it sitting in my cart all ready waiting for release

Just ordered a DS7-C. A work of art. Shame it will be covered/protected by the handguard.
Would it be OK to have a DS7-C not be covered/protected by a handguard? Does SLR recommend a thread locker (ex. Rocksett) in the clamping screws? |

You can use whatever you want to lock the screws even staking them a bit. I never use anything though on the bolts. Never had one come loose and I run them harder than most to find weak areas. Just tighten up a to a firm pressure. And thank you Nada! Todd@SLR |

I got to see one of these gas blocks in person today, and they are nice. My next project requiring a low profile gas block will have one of these.

SWEET! Got mine ordered tonight. Can't wait for it to get here.

Do you provide recommendations on gas screw settings (turns) based on barrel length and block position (and gas hole diameter)?
For example on a 11 1/2" SBR barrel. |
|
Thanks Todd!
It's a satisfying sight to see the SLR websites checkout page give you that "Order confirmed.." message Looking forward to the arrival of a DA7-C, 12" Intrepid KM and 16" barrel. Been great dealing with Todd G. and plan to do more in the future. ...now if I can only find a mid-length, blackened gas tube to go with the barrel |

Single round in mag Go in 1 pos each shot until bolt will not lock back. Back out 1 pos Repeat 1 round bolt shod lock back Run full mag Any malfunction go out 1 more pos That's a general way to do it New rifles may need more gas until they break in Gimme a call if you need any help. Thanks Todd |

Great info Todd.
Solves many issues for me from 20" to SBRs. In essence adjust the gas pressure slightly above what is needed to operate. Thank you very much. |
|

Looks like I'm going to need another one for 3rd build...SBR/pistol....
|

artimus009:
I've wanting to build an SBR for years. What barrel length have you focused on or prefer? From research, it seems 11.5" in 5.56mm is quite good. Thanks |
|
|
I think I'll be using one of these on my CMR upper I am going to build.
I like the fact that there is only one screw to worry about...no set screw to undo and screw back in every time you want to adjust it |
|
Ya and no freaken two handed finger yoga trying to get a detent button pushed in while turning a hex wrench. Oh god then you run out of rotation and have to reset the wrench, find the button......
|
|
ETA on .625" set screw ? Thanks.
Edited to add: in two weeks? Alright, I am getting one then!! |
