the vast majority (like 99%) of all dives are for training. it's a dangerous perishable skill, so practice is important

the dude's probably just practicing pulling security in surf. no small effort in the surf, in a ruck, over a draeger, and the dude's probably cold and tired as well

let's just get back to pictures and stuff

Pretty sure it's training. My attempt at being humorous with the squire must have failed.

It's nice to see grip pods. I like em. Not the best vfg, not the best bipod, but effective. I'm curious how quick the spring wears out in heavy use?

the spring gets fouled a lot. mostly because it's plastic and the interior gets scored when grit gets stuck in it, legs stick as a result

but the damned spring is probably the strongest part of the whole grip. they typically fail when a leg breaks, or one will deploy and the other won't, or the grip fails at the top near the clamp

they (not sure who) used to make one that was metal and had a foam grip like what you'd find on a beach cruiser bicycle.

if you can find one of those (you probably can't) they completely rock

if you can't find one of those, I'd recommend one that's made for the SAW. they're more reliable and last longer

Cool. Thanks. The original I think is still made by gps. There has been one of the original all aluminum ones in the EE for a couple months now, but it's like $200+.  It's in great condition too. Has the foam still intact.

the two I have, and prob most the ones shown here, have the metal inserts in the legs and the nsn # on the side. They feel pretty sturdy, but I could see a few places of possible concern/ weaker areas.

On the topic of grip pods, anyone have any experience with the Wilcox grip pod?

Hows the optic clarity with KF and IR filter?
I've been hunting for one for a while... but I think I'm a couple years late lol.

UTM. the dark space at the front of the bolt is from a proprietary extractor for the low velocity ammunition used

Simunition is a brand name of a different force-on-force training ammunition company

@2Keylows

With the KF and LFU installed, light transmission suffers a bit of course but clarity is still excellent. I only keep the LFU on because I know that as soon as I remove it, no matter how carefully I store it away, I will lose it lol.

I had no clue how scarce the LFU had become until I got this sight and took a look around.

remove:
gangster grip
carry handle assembly
flash hider
full-sized rail panels
lens caps
M68 spare battery cap (those suck anyway)

add:
KAC 300m rear sight
KAC NT4 muzzle device
forward side sling adapter (the pinned kind)
1/3 and 1/2 rail panels
USGI nylon sling
some cheap tan paint

then put the M68 on the upper

i know what you're going for (which is cool by the way)

but guess what I'm thinking of, you're a half-step away

Nice. I definitely enjoy seeing clone attempts of itw rifles. I say go all out. Paint it up, shoot it up.  If you don't like the balance, you can always change it up. That's the beauty of the modular rifle.

After seeing that picture, my first reaction was “does that work” ??.  Can a RDS position correctly and securely to a rail for absolute or lower 1/3. I always wondered how he came to mount it that way.

I agree with Dyzastr. Clone it, paint it and shoot it, if it doesn’t work out - Change it up! Let us know how it shoots.

FM 3-22.9 states that the M68 can be mounted securely to either the receiver rail or the top of the RAS. I've seen reserve units with M16A2s with M5 RAS with M68s mounted on the top rail (recently- last summer) and apparently it works for them.

I switched config for a glam shot . Plus I'm a compusive optics swapper depending on what I'm shooting. Made in USA LPJ.  You know, it looks like mahogany, feels heavy like mahogany (or a ton of bricks towards the end of a gig), but I'm not sure. I'll have to look it up.

Eta- it is- that explains why my studio smells of rich mahogany and leather bound books
