I prefer the TA31 overall. The TA01NSN was better for taking precision shots at 100 to 300 meters than the RCO

When did the TA31 get into the mix? That seems like a Marine Corp thing? I assume the TA01NSN is the most clone correct.

TA01NSN was what SOCOM purchased back in 95’. TA31/M150 was what big Army purchased after 01’

The USAF uses the TA31, that's what I have on my issue M4 currently. I have no idea if that is the exclusive model the AF uses though.

I just received the ALG QMS trigger group and installed it in my Colt Block 1.  What a sweet, smooth trigger it is!  Its a forged Schmid Tool trigger group, same as milspec and Colt, but without the notch cut in the top front of the hammer like Colt does.  Came complete with trigger, hammer, disconnector and all springs and .001" oversize pins and a very smooth hammer notch and trigger sear face.  Can't wait to shoot it.  It feels as good as the LaRue MBT and the Geissele I installed in my sons AR, but in single stage.

I've been thinking of doing the exactly same thing because the OEM trigger is awful. I was trying to stay as close to clone correct & OEM as possible but I might need to buy a QMS.

I say go for it, it’s as mil spec as you can get as the parts are from the same manufacturer as Colt uses.  I’m very pleased with the way it functions.

Dont expect too much from the QMS triggers. I have 5 right now and 2 are pretty gritty and feel about as good as the standard mil spec trigger. The other 3 are pretty good.
My best QMS, on a 1-10, 10 being the nicest single stage trigger and 1 being the absolute bottom barrel functioning trigger, I would rate it a 6. The 2 bad ones are like a 4.
One thing they all have for me is a consistent break. Just gritty out the box.

My brother did the ACT hammer, springs, and pins, and disconnector, but threw on the QMS trigger since he wanted the black trigger, and its pretty smooth.

I liked it too an I have exclusively ALG triggers because I wanted a consistent baseline for all the guns. I run the ACT innards on my mk12 with the QMS trigger assembly and its no geissele, but the reduced weight and lack of gritty creep makes it a nice budget option. I liked it on my brothers setup so decided to rock it too

That’s a sweet setup, I really like your PSA lower too.  I need to get one of those to do a future build.  Your rifle is much like mine is setup except I’m using the B5 SOPMOD gen1 stock.  Really improves the shooting.  I also would love to get the TA01NSN someday but I like the Aimpoint a lot.

No go. Just so you know, when mounted they droop down. I thought it was just the one I picked up but when I googled pics of Force Recon, they all look to be drooping also. It's the way the extension mates up with the FSB. Otherwise it's solid.

Block I clone I have so far. It’s all Colt from the 14.5” barrel to the N1 stock and FCG. The only thing wrong so far is the lower which I have a PSA M4A1 lower on the way until I can get a Colt one. That’s also a KAC RAS, VFG, and Rail Covers with Vero Beach markings. The last pieces are the CompM2, waiting on it to arrive, Wilcox mount, and a Matech rear sight.

Hey Guys,

Need a little insight before I post some pics, just want to make sure I am as correct as I can be.

Going for a FN M4A1 Clone

Upper
- F Marked Upper
- FN SOCOM 14.5" barrel w/ F marked FSP, Colt A2 flash hider, pinned with a spacer by ADCO
- Colt Delta Ring Assembly
- KAC RAS w/ grip and panels
- FN marked BCG w/ MPF bolt
- FN Charging Handle
- Matech BUIS
- I have a EXPS3-0 on it now, but have a 512 on another gun. Which optic is more correct? Or would purchasing a Aimpoint PRO or Comp M2 be a better choice?

Lower
- FN M4 military collector complete lower - this has the ambi safety on it, but it's the longer style. It also came with a 6 position receiver extension. Is that correct, or would I be better off swapping on my Colt 4 position extension? It has a waffle stock on it. No marking on the stock at all.

I don't hate the waffle stock, but I much prefer my IMOD...is an IMOD acceptable for this clone project?

I have a Colt side sling swivel and M16 silent sling on the way. Is there anything I am missing? Once I get it figured out I will get some pictures up.

Thanks for any info provided in advance.

Which unit/service do you want to clone?  So far very clone approved.  No one is going to see your receiver extension but the military only issues 4 position.  On a FN clone, waffle pattern stock.  The VLTOR IMOD is not issued for the M4 per se, however it is part of the Mk14 40mm GL.  I've issued a few to M4s.  On optic, Aimpoint is the preferred red dot for Big Army.  Comp2 or Comp4, the PRO just uses a different caps IIRC.  Some units bought EoTechs under COTS.  On the lower, stick with A2 PG and standard trigger guard.  Nice build again.

Thanks for the info CD...and all the wonderful pics you post in all the clone threads. You are so full of valuable information. I am amazed at how much you and some of the others know on the subject of all the different parts needed for these clones.

Going more for an Army clone, so I will leave the waffle stock on it. Will probably just leave the 6 position extension as it is staked very well in 2 spots. Will probably look into the Aimpoint Comp2 or 4 or even the PRO. Need to do more research on those 3 models to see which I would prefer.

Not sure what you mean with this comment..."On the lower, stick with A2 PG and standard trigger guard." It has the standard trigger guard, but not sure what A2 PG means.

Thanks for the clarification Tig....it does have a F 3 marked A2 grip on it from FN. A lot shinier than the Colt A2 grip that I got from Brownells.

FYI.....this build is kind of your fault....lol. I always saw you talking about Shark Arms and made the mistake of looking at his site. Has cost me quite a bit of money, but worth every penny. I think everything I have for this build is from Big Chris other than the F marked upper(had to use Charlies for that one...ouch) and the lower(EE).

So with all the items I have I am assuming it would be more Block 1 vs Block 1.5? Or am I wrong?
