Thanks! That is sort of what I had concluded from looking at photos of the period.

Nice.  I'm torn on replicating what you have on bottom with M4QD or going with a 14.7 no-stamp build.  Got 1 PSA M4A1 lower left that's lonely.

The bottom one is pinned and welded with a spacer, no stamp.

Ah, didn't even notice looking on my phone.  I think it threw me off looking just like the base of the MAMS.  Really nice.

Can I velcro the surefire pressure pad in-between the rails?  Does it have to mount to one of the rails?

I tried that years back. Didn't work so well for me. I've seen people do it with no issue, so I suspect my problem was user error.

I deployed with the pad velcro in between the rails.  Worked fine but it was only for maybe a 1 year period during spin up and deployment.  The PEQ's were usually removed after deployment till the next training use.  I sometimes had to use Shoe-Goo after the sticky on the velcro failed.  So long term velcro is probably not a good option.  I also used electric tape to attach it to the KAC grip.  It worked fine taping the wire and switch down.

In between the top and side rail secured with ranger bands works for me. Rail covers help.

Zip ties are another option.

I can't find my pic anymore, but if you place the tape switch at either 10:30 or 1:30 between the rails you can use Larue index clips with the wire management ends to hold it in place. I accidentally discovered it one day then proceeded to use that method for an entire year in Afg.

I'm probably the only person on the planet that likes this setup but it really works for me naturally in both vfg and a thumb forward grip (im a lefty).  The rifles a pig but for its specific purpose, it's perfect, especially under nv. It just happens to be cloney-ish.  Trying to redo my cable management now that you guys are talking about it.

Bagged one already.

I feel you. When I build mine it will have the surefire ct556 flash huder as all my others are set up for a surefire can. Its more of a reminder of what I carried most of my service vs perfect clone.

Same on the perfect clone part.. I went with a griffin can that can use standard a2 hiders that will fit all my mws or block 1 clones. Works great.

Although of course I wish I had an nt4.

I refuse to participate in NFA post-41F and am stuck with my Saker 762. I’ve been looking recently wishfully that there was some Mount I could use on the BFA ring on the A2/KAC hiders. It pains me to put the SiCo hiders and brakes on my builds. All that work to have a disgusting muzzle device on the end.

The lack of a correct suppressor doesn’t bug me but incorrect muzzle devices sure as hell do.

Another reason why a can that mounts to a2 flash hider isn't a terrible idea.

I don’t think I’d run a 556 can on a 556 gun mounted to an A2 fh, but I’d feel pretty comfy on a 762 can on a 556 gun.

My 556 can has been on all of my A2's from various manufacturers, including the BCM A2X.  All are very solid, accurate, and have minimal poi shift.

Same.

In other news, tomorrow’s mail can’t come fast enough with the NSN acog.

I snagged another early RIS off EE last night from the nicest guy on the planet. I look regularly and they seem to never come up. Now my block 1 can keep its RIS and the early Mk18 build can get a RIS as well so the RAS can go back into storage.
