Dang, my buddy shoots 75gr Frontier almost exclusively now and I have a bunch I haven’t shot yet.

Now I’m nervous...

Glad to hear you’re okay, and thanks for sharing.  Would love to know the specs on the ammo when you can.

Was it a DD 10.3” barrel or a Colt?

And maybe the geissele trigger.

Just glad to be alive really, could of been really nasty.
There was a 5" metal chunk of the upper receiver that blew off.

Mmm, taupe NT4.

It's been a grand total of 20 days since the check was cashed on mine. Fuck, this is gonna be a long wait :\.

And an M300/SR07 on a Block 1.5... I thoroughly approve this message. Looking at that causes the occasional hankering I have to ditch my Wilcox/Aimpoint/LMT for an EXPS and a 300m to come back.

That may or may not be my old B2 upper he has the Nt4 on, that he may or may not have sent me an SR15 upper for.

For shame. Still not sure what could drive a person to get rid of a perfectly good CQBR in the first place. Probably something that happens after living in California for too long :\.

The only chance for a cure is intense and prolonged exposure to the freedom rich air of a state like Arizona.

The T1/T2s were issued to be mounted next to a scope on a sniper rifle.  I'm running a DD riser on mine however.  The ECOS also came with the Micro LRP Mount, 30mm mounting adapter with picatinny rail.  I've also have a ARMS #30-Off Set mount.

Has the op if the kaboom confirmed it was Frontier?  It appears to the that, but I don’t think it’s been officially confirmed yet.

Would love to know what grain it was.  I haven’t heard anything about kabooms from Frontier 75gr, and that’s what I have a bunch of.

Roughly one million people in the metro area. Politically, the city is purple/blue in a red state... think Austin, but not quite as many hipsters. The outlying towns have more conservative stances. U of A is here so there's a large college population in the university district. Also plays host to a lot of tech, imaging/optical equipment, and defense companies.

The surrounding area is great if you like outdoor activities, especially in the late fall through early spring. Hot, but not as hot as the Phoenix metro, with lots of mountains; the 3rd most prominent peak in Arizona (11th in elevation) is a 40 minute drive out of the city limits. Areas within 30 miles range from high desert with interspersed riparian zones to coniferous forest.

Lots of good spots to shoot on BLM and USFS land. Some private ranches allow access, and even more ranches allow access if you take the time to get to know the owners.

On the Mk18/CQBR, the precursor to the SOCOM RC was the KAC NT4.

Sorry, I meant the Surefire precursor...didn’t the FA556-212 turn into the Socom?

I know it requires a different mount, just wondered if it was allowed given the Socom came out of a couple updates to the FA556...kind of like the RC2 is acceptable but wasn’t the actual version used.  Or maybe the RC3 isn’t acceptable?

There wasn’t a surefire precursor, kac nt4 was used on mk18 mod 0’s. Block 1 & 2 use the surefire rc. Socom SB is more acceptable for mk18 than rc2, to the best of my knowledge rc2 has not been fielded.

The NT4 was used on Block I and II as well. SOPMOD Block I started being phased out in 2005 for Block II, and Surefire didn't win the SOCOM contract with the RC until 2011.  It's possible MARSOC is still using NT4s on their Block IIs - at least as far as I know, they still were not too long ago.

The Ranger Regiment has issued T2’s now for general use. The older pictures(last year)looked like Larue mounts...but I can’t be sure..some looked like scalarworks too. 3/75s Instagram has a recent post where you get a glimpse of one..there’s also shoot house footage of them using them but the mounts aren’t clear...I guess I can always ask some of the few dudes I know over there.

Best way to use them I think. Gives you a nice texture grip point without the loop being in the way and it keeps the USGI mags in my range bag from rattling and smacking against each other. I actually slightly regret selling you the last of my FDE Magpuls, lol.

At the time I didn't think I had a use for them, but now I kinda wish I had an extra 10-15 FDE Magpuls to chop. Magpul should just make a chopped version :\.

Thinking about using a SFMB on my block II build. I know it would be loud as hell and my neighbors at the range would hate me but it would mitigate some of the wear on the first baffle once my can comes in. Anyone else running one? Does the can still sit as close to the rail as the 4p/3p? They look to be similar dimensions from what I can see in pictures.

This is the skinny one a few folks are running in this thread. Remove the pic rail from the mount (will require a heat gun to break the thread locker) and you can direct mount the surefire scouts to the base. Provides a nice lightweight and tucked in light mount solution.

Direct from Gear Sector
Cheaper from SKD and they are a site sponsor

I switched from a 3P to a SFMB on my 10.3” barreled MK18ish rifle with a RIS II.
My 556RC sits the same distance from the rail as it did with the 3P.
Muzzle blast is pretty ferocious without the can, but I never run it that way.
