Finally had a chance to sort through all the carbon pron pics I took and I have to say, I think I've outdone myself this time. The filth after 3,200rds is at some kind of all new level... and even I'm slightly appalled, lol.

I'm actually surprised it was still locking back on empty, heh.

A custom mix of Super Lube grease and oil that brings standard SL from NLGI #2 down to about NLGI #0...  slightly thicker than CherryBalmz, but way less viscosity than standard grease. I find the performance on par with CB for way less money.

Suppressed, yes. Unsuppressed it was still running but I had to drop from an H3 back to an H2. It was cycling unsuppressed with the H3, but I could feel the sluggishness... it was to the point it actually felt like it was cycling slower than I could pull the trigger, lol. I should've compared split times, but I was all flustered by the keyholes. I think I had one failure to lock back with the H2... otherwise, it was running perfectly up to about 3,100. It was also pretty cold for AZ that day (unless you're talking up north) - around 30ish. That definitely contributed.

Encouraging procrastination one post at a time :D.

Going to 1k is just a nice warm-up... to get the full carbon bukkake effect you need to get above 2,500 ;p.

Yup, I dunked the BCG in the ultrasonic; took about 13 hours to get most of it, heh. Some of it was so baked on that I still had to scrape it after all that time (and I have a fairly powerful L&R ultrasonic, not a Chicom model). I actually got a small amount of pitting on some of the exposed metal surfaces of the carrier where there was hardened crust - never had that happen before. I think that's just because I left it in the ultrasonic too long; seems like the solvent soaked into that crust and instead of breaking loose it just sat and chewed on the metal :\.

I usually don't leave it in the ultrasonic that long, but I was feeling lazy - not gonna do that again. Nothing that will impact function, but still annoying. And I still haven't even started on the upper and lower... I realized I was out of brake cleaner and didn't get any until last night. So, yeah... that's gonna be fun.

Eta: Any updates with your barrel swap?
Oh, I have no doubt that amounts to at least several ounces, maybe more - should've weighed it :\.

DD finally got back to me today (had to send a second support ticket request), but I think I was too vague because the guy has me set up for a "repair" RMA and they'll "inspect and take the appropriate action." I basically just said it was producing keyholes, that I'd tested it with various brands/types of ammo and wanted to start the process to get a replacement.

I think I was still a little incredulous they'd just give me a replacement for a shot-out barrel and was too vague on the details. I responded back with the full story, round count and images of the target and some of the muzzle end view pics showing something like 50% of the rifling being completely gone. I'm hoping they'll agree to go ahead and send the replacement without having to wait for them to do the evaluation first. We'll see...

Yeah I guess it's worth a shot to get ahold of them and seek a replacement. But I'm a little skeptical they would just replace a shot out barrel, as the other guy in this thread was saying they have done before. Unless he's holding onto more information to share in regard to a particular contact within DD, I can't see customer support just issuing you a brand new one. It got shot out because you ran 15k+ down the pipe, lol.

Just to clarify, I'm not doubting brodband8, it's just hard not to be skeptical when they don't advertise it. It's one of those things where you can't help but think, "Yeah, maybe they did that for you, but I bet they won't do it for me..."

Of course, it'd be fantastic if they do. I know SOLGW offers shot-out replacements, but they advertise that fact; it's a way of adding perceived value without much cost, knowing the majority will never use it. Seems to me if they do offer that as a part of their warranty, it would serve DD a lot better to actually make that clear. Otherwise, they're eating replacement costs (however infrequently) without the accompanying increase in perceived value for the consumer.

Either way, I hope it works out - I'd be happy as a clam if I end up with a free replacement.

Oh I'm with you in that regard, no worries. I was more so saying I'm skeptical, yet hopeful lol. That would be an incredibly invaluable bonus to buying barrels from DD, if they do actually follow through. I mean why not? Most people don't even get to the point of turning a rifled barrel into a straw. Keep us filled in!

Well, I got a reply this morning and things may be all good. Seems I'm still gonna have to send the barrel in first, but that's fine. He didn't seem moved by my further details insofar as changing from "send it in first," but that's also a good thing; I made it entirely clear it was shot out and he didn't seem to blink that replacement would be the course of action. He did add, "If you want to send in only the barrel for replacement that is fine or is you want to send in the URG or Complete Rifle that is no problem either. If you send in the URG or Rifle I can have our lead gunsmith install and test fire the new barrel."

Sounds good; definitely more confident now that he's got the full details and still says to send it in. I got the upper and lower 90% clean last night, so I'll pull and strip the barrel today (I's the only one gone be installin' any barrels on my URG mister ;p).

Your exact setup with light mount, afg, and switch is what I want to try. I asked about it a few pages back but everybody runs their switch at 12 or 9. Thanks for the pics.

It works for me really well.  It is very natural to go from a c clamp grip to just move my thumb down a little for the light.

PC3. It's an older model, not sure if they make it anymore. It's a little on the small side, but it works for my uses (bolts, BCGs, etc.). For cans, I cut the top off a 16oz plastic water bottle, place the can inside, fill it with vinegar (or Simple Green or whatever), and then place the bottle in the unit and fill the reservoir to the top with water. Works pretty well... I've had my RC in and out of it for a couple of days and filled up about 5 water bottles jet black with carbon crud (once settled it's about 1/4-1/2" or so). I like that the L&R has a 100% duty cycle - I can run it for days if I want.

I do try to swap the fluid for fresh every 6-12 hours, so it's not sitting in a thick cloud of abrasive carbon - trying to retain what little finish I have left, lol. I usually go with vinegar, but I'm trying Simple Green right now and it seems to be working pretty well.

I always toss it in one of the 2 day USPS Priority flat rate envelopes and use the standard included tracking (no signature or certified or anything extra). Gets there fast and gives enough tracking info to know when it arrived.
