Thanks man! I figured if it’s under a can, muzzle device don’t matter too much, I just opted for a 3 prong.

Silly question, does an auto ambi selector work in a semi-auto lower? If I order one do I need to hide my dogs? I’ve seen the colt ambi auto selectors pop in and out of stock but haven’t seen any semi.

Does anyone have knowledge on the history of of the sopmod stock? Mainly wanting to know what time period the early b5 with fitment issues came from? I was reading about the ones at shark arms, and was left confused. What time period are the ones they are selling from? And are they from the run with the tight fit?
I recently got ahold of one that appears to have been done on the original equipment at Crane before “lmt” got involved. I’ve been interested in piecing some of the history together, but the write up on sharks pg left me confused. I kept losing track of which stock they were talking about between the ones they are selling and the history presented. |

Maybe after 2010? They were something like $50 too. |

There are some minor differences between it and the lmt. The polymer on the one from crane reminds me of the old car stocks. I don't know if the were ever issued, but they were definitely used and tested. I believe the initial crane sopmods were produced in 2002. So it seems I may have acquired one of the original sopmod "war stocks" produced in house at Crane, IN. These were produced for testing and evaluation and were later contracted out to LMT and then B5 Systems. This post is to document the subtle differences between the Crane sopmod and the LMT sopmod in the hopes to solidify the credibility of this stock as well as to provide a documentation of some interesting history.
in most images, the Crane is on top/left, and the lmt is on the bottom/right. Attached File Crane latch is blank and appears to be standard car latch. (At some point someone rounded the latch over.) Attached File Crane has black O rings, LMT has orange O rings. Attached File Crane storage tube caps have slight knurling, LMT does not. Attached File Crane butt pad has two holes. One that goes all the way through and one that does not. LMT does not have holes. Attached File |

Crane butt pad has a solid top post, LMT is hollowed.
Attached File Crane tabs are slightly shorter/ less beefy than the LMT tabs. Attached File Crane stock absent of all markings. Only mark on this one is a faded "T" written in paint pen. It is present on both sides. Attached File LMT has the patent numbers on the side and LMT on the adjustment latch. Attached File |

My new Badger MK12 gas blocks arrived here at 7PM.
They don't include Loctite, like the Daniel Defense ones do, but they do include a diagram with instructions, the set screws and a gas tube roll pin. |

The military specified Loctite, according to Badger, is Red 262 and Daniel Defense supplies Red 262, but recommends using Blue (242?) Loctite. The Badger installation diagram and instructions are available on Badger's website too. I don't think they include torque, but I think it is 25 in-lbs. The maximum torque for that size thread is usually 30 in-lbs and minimum is usually 20 or maybe 15 in-lbs. Back in the days before affordable, Chinese torque drivers, the proper method with a standard length Allen wrench of the correct size, was to tighten until the, 'handle" end of the Allen wrench started to flex or bend. That still works. |
|
|
Per CD, Crane spec is 25 in-lbs and Loctite 242.
I personally prefer 262. |

That's not such needed with 243. In the red Loctite, 262 is for small threads, such as the set screws and 271 is for larger bolts. So if choosing blue, maybe try 243 and if choosing red, than maybe try 262. Daniel Defense comes with red 262, but recommends, "blue." (no number) Badger instructions only mention red 262, but it is not included with the gas block, as it is with the DD gas block. Red Loctite 262 is good to 300F, while Blue Loctite 243 is good to 360F. |
