It does look bad but it actually puts the dot right over the centerbore of the barrel at a good height. Functionally works great, I actually shoot better canting the rifle with the optic offset vs. running it on top of the primary optic and popping up. Plus, I tried mounting it to the ring cap but it puts it way too high to be practical. And I’m not dropping over $300 on a direct mount ring cap. Plus the whole kit only cost me $170....mounts included. I can deal with ugly....hahaha

Gotcha, for $170 that's a solid deal. Are you going to have issues zeroing the windage with it being so close to the rail?

I always wanted to clarify these threads, are the warriors pictured here mainly recon guys or action elements? I know there's a lot of overlap, but I'm just wondering based on their kit, amount of spares carried, non kinetic gear, etc.  It's unclear.

AFAIK the 416s never used M4-2k, solely the 416-SD.

That’s true. Same for the SCAR-SD for the Mk16.

I was coming at it from the COTS perspective where most of us likely won’t realistically be able to access those cans (e.g., are they still in production?) but may have to settle on a reasonable substitute.

@thegreatdanton do you have anymore info on the custom collar? Is it an m4 collar or a custom collar like adco does?

Lots of people could probably chop it and make a collar to work with the can, the problem is we don't know what exact dimensions were used for said barrel and collar. So someone could probably make it work but that wont necessarily make it clone correct.

I asked around on FB like half a year ago, and had a guy PM me that the barrels were chopped to 10.39 with a custom collar from OPS. But that seems way too short to actually mount a reflex can like the OPS, unless it was a super long thing with collar and brake/FH in one piece, which by then you lose the ability to index against the barrel and not have to really worry about baffle strike issues. But then I'm not Ron Allen or an Engineer at Crane/Dam Neck, so there is totally the possibility i'm just wrong.
I also asked in the OPS picture thread a while back but no one had any specifics.

However, there are several guys I know who have had their stuff at Ron's place for 12-24mo.

Yikes. He was one of the few I figured could do it. Thanks for the info.

I was looking on adco’s site and it looks like their contouring comes with a custom collar of some sort. Wonder if it would work?

On another thought, if the collar is all the way up against GB, does the barrel need to be re-contoured? Dimple the barrel for the set screw and with the can on, I can’t imagine that collar going anywhere...

I'm sure they have the ability. Though I'm not sure if there's any legalities of them making a "knockoff" of his product.

@TheGreatDanton, not an OTB upper, but I do have a source for an otherwise factory 14.5 AF vented upper.

No receivers yet. Picked up this rail that was a surplus purchase from a mil auction out of VA Beach. Figure it would be a nice start to a 14.5” 416 recce upper.

Hey bud,

I think you posted in the wrong thread. This is for NSW/Delta Recce clones. You might want to go post your build in the normal Recce Rifle thread.

Just found out I waaaay overpaid for school so that nice fat check is going toward the bulk of this rifle. To think I almost abandoned the Mod 1 build for now to focus on this. Good news is I have most of the ancillary parts, just the barrel and optic are missing. Really glad I didn't cheat and use my Umbrella Corporation receiver set, and put the second set up for sale. Doing this right has taken much longer than any other build I've done but so much more fulfilling! I wouldn't be nearly as far along without y'all's input.

If my EE listings all come through this booger would be DONE!

Taking a barrel and chopping it to 15.1". I didn't even notice until after I ordered that it's a rifle length gas system. Looking at so many barrels, I missed it.

Can I still use it reliably? I'm wondering if it will interfere with the collar. Barrel hasn't arrived yet for me to look at it.
