Can someone please give me explain to me how clear anodizing compares to fde anodizing?
*How does it look when clear ano and tanish/fde ano are side by side? * does clear ano look more grey/silver or tanish? It can be hard to tell in pictures. Sometimes clear ano looks more fde ish and sometimes it looks more grayish depending on lighting. Thanks! |

This will give you some idea of "clear" anodizing. It's the MLOK light mount made by Arisaka. It's tan, but not FDE (no hint of gray at all.) Adds to the "nothing really matches" look. I love it. Hopefully, the Scalarworks PEAK sights will be a good look too... we shall see later this week

In my experience, clear ano’d 7075 turns light tan. Clear ano’d 6061 turns light gray.

Post is correct. 7075 will turn a light tan when anodized without dye, and 6061 is just clear/light grey.
The original hk416d clear anodized receivers are a good example, they are 7075 and turn a beautiful light golden tan. Personally “fde” dye in anodizing can come out looking very ugly compared to the clear stuff. |

Latest config, not the best lighting to really show what's what. I'll get better when time allows. This shows the Ripcord Industries tanodized RE (buffer tube.) Super nice..

New Scalarworks PEAK clear ano sights in natural daylight. I also put the Magpul MOE grip back on for giggles. It's a lot lighter in color vs the Anarchy Outdoors grip..
Overall, I'm happy with them no doubt.

On a side note. After some further inspection, the new Scalarworks sights are a really close match to the Arisaka scout mount and the Surerfire tailcap. I mean almost perfect. And it's close (but a shade different) to the Modlite lamp body. As they say, good enough for Gov work.

First picture is of the a CMT DRT rail, Aero Kodiak Brown, and an older Geissele DDC (more FDE than gold).
 Second picture shows a newer Geissele DDC (more gold) with the Kodiak Brown.  Top to Bottom: Daniel Defense FDE, CMT DRT, Kodiak Brown, Older DDC, Kodiak Brown. Of the two uppers I got, the finish is identical. Most likely from the same batch.  The difference between the OG Aero Tano and the Kodiak Brown is subtle, but enough to make them look pretty good together.  I think this is what I will be doing with my Tano rifle. In conjunction with the leftover DD 16” barrel chopped and P/W to 14.5”. I should have a Kodiak Brown Lower at my FFL Tuesday as well, not sure what I’ll do with that…  I think the Mark 3HD in the picture will soon be swapped with a Razor. I’m just having a hard time with a scope that doesn’t say made in the USA. Mocked up as a 14.5” (barrel is inside suppressor 1.5”).

Loving the tanodized stuff, though... I have an HK RAL8000 stock, and just got the Brownells/MI RAL8000 rail, and I was wondering what Kodiak Brown looked like...
