Here are the RIS III stats that I haven't seen from Daniel Defense, but this retailer has:

And we're the legal Eagle! Stamp came in this morning thanks to ATF Nathan Hartsock.

Kodiak brown ano lower looks great on this build. Now also shods a Magpul K2-XL pistol grip, Triggertech diamond trigger, Geissele DDC RE and Fortis Mfg K2 castle nut & endplate system.

Off to the engraver this afternoon... Both shots in natural cloudy lighting

Larger pic, shows color differentiation better

@pezboytate

Thank you, I’m still curious as to how it compares in diameter to the MK16, I converted a couple uppers to the 16 because of its feel and lightness.
Thanks again!

@mstennes

It looks like you got most of your answers already, but I can tell you the RIS is wider than the MK16.
It’s about what a MK4/8 feels like, but not quite as squared off feeling due to the angles at the 45’s.

If you’re used to the RIS ii I can’t imagine you’d be bothered by the weight of the iii.

Here’s a picture of the RIS next to a MK4 for reference (both 14.5” P/W).
I personally prefer the slightly larger diameter, and actually got rid of the MK16 I had pictured before.

@Goody454

I am used to it but I am kicking around a lightweight build and the MK16 was kinda my thought but I love the RIS, if it shed a few ounces and was slightly smaller I was thinking it would be the best option. I did have some Mk4’s which I do like but I like how light and slim the MK16 is, and since I’m not hanging anything on it I felt the end rail sections could be deleted. Going a little wider wouldn’t hurt my feeling and actually be e benefit. I’m one of those who is always searching for “that” perfect rail. The RIS would be it except I do like the slightly smaller od of the MK16. I am really thinking the RIS III may be just that rail. The additional heft would not bother me, and the slightly larger diameter is a blessing to as well.

I wished they’d just release them already. Buying a complete rifle then parting it out is out of the question.

I really like the Mk16, but it isn't a light rail compared to many options out there. If you want G and light, go for the Mk14 as it is their lightest option. That also assumes you don't need m-lok on the 45's. I have Mk16's on my guns, and Mk14's on my wife's and son's. I am definitely a fan of the slimmer rails over the Mk4 and Mk8.

I agree on the weight, I’ve found you start going lighter you see the twistys and the bendys. I feel the MK16 for me is the best compromise at the moment. It checks the most boxes for me. I’m one who tries to make everything about as close to the same as possible, except barrel lengths and optics. This helps me in being able to pick up my different rifles and while different they are the same. I do like my RIS II’s and they are built like a tank, the diameter is much longer as are all quads. I like the M Lock for its simplicity, I also don’t have to have rails where I don’t need or want them. I’m having some high hopes for the RIS III, just wished they’d make a longer version for say a 18” and a short FSP carbine versions ala MK18.

Have no idea why the natural lighting pics I posted earlier make the Kodiak brown lower look "rose gold." It's not, at all.

LED lighting in my office, and it's much closer to the G DDC rail in color to my eyes anyway.

Nice. Where on earth did you find the clear ano Talon safety?

I had a backorder on Optics Planet forever and it was canceled. Then I finally saw them in stock at Radian and placed a LARGE order. I got a package a month later and there was only 1 (one) selector in there.

Anyone bought an FDE or Clear Ano stripped upper from MSP Armory?

I got a clear anno from MSP armory, color looks fine but the barrel extension is looser than I'm used to, admittedly all my other ones are thermal fit (BCM, Mk2 and Hodge) so I may be picky.

Thanks. They are all Geissele. I got a bunch in that are really rough and off in color. Both DDC and black. The bottom upper is from that batch. I need a bunch of lower parts to finish them. I'm just going to put them together and see what happens I guess.

If it was that color I would have been happy. With handling and oil my CMT was borderline maroon. It was a blem but someone posted a picture a few pages back that had the same hue.

Oh well though. My Cerakote guy is a boss at replicating anodizing.
