What is everyone using for a gas block? I can only find the badger ordinance in stock. I’m thinking of picking up the badger since thoroughbred has it in stock and I’m getting my barrel from them.

Well I’m going to go ahead and efile form 1 my colt lower.

I know it’s probably been posted a few times but I can’t find it. What’s the correct overall length for the form 1 for a 10.3” barrel and SOPMOD stock?

I appreciate any help

approval comes fast. so happy efiling is back.

29.5 in is what you seek for 10.3 builds

from recent approved form 1's - notice the difference in "model" - both were approved. the model is what you select on the drop downs when filling out this section

Awesome, I really appreciate it

@JLAudio Form 1 submitted. I have a couple more questions. Hope I’m not clogging up this thread. Maybe others will find it useful.

So by my understanding I’ll be an emailed a CLEO copy of my ATF 5320.1 which I mail to my sheriff and a cover letter for my 2x FD-258 fingerprint cards which I mail to the ATF at

Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives

National Firearms Act Division

244 Needy Road

Martinsburg, WV 25405

Correct? I live right by the sheriff’s department so all of this should be pretty easy.

Then on the FD-258 fingerprint card for “reason fingerprinted” just “ATF Form 1”?

Yes all of what you posted is correct. I prefer to send both by certified mail that way you get the receipt back showing it was signed for and in the case of the prints you get the date received for tracking purposes. If you live by your local CLEO you can drop it off if you are there and they are fingerprinting you. My understanding is 41F made these changes of notification of CLEO vs. needing CLEO signature in the older days.
Just make sure to get those fingerprints submitted no later than 10 days of your form 1 filing date.

I've seen a pic of a similar receiver in the past (maybe it's one of your pics CD)

the C on this one is completely different font from the one used by Colt anyway... Ive also seen the same receiver posted on the EE minus the FN cage code... not sure if it means Colt... I'm was under the impression that the C was part of the forging mfg code... but after seeing it next to the BAFE forging as well I dont know what to think...

Ended up caving and grabbed as surefire Sb from AU. The discount certainly helps the cost of the $200 stamp and ffl transfer fee, under $1k out the door. Next up is a taupe nt4 in 4-6 weeks when presample gets them back in stock. 1500 for the nt4 is almost offensive.

I know it’s not clone correct but the price cannot be beat for the Sb’s

I wonder if these parts are being sent from FN (like the Surefire flash hider etc)
The receiver is quite strange. But I'm willing to bet FN is helping Colt fill receiver contracts by making them. Colt has been contracting out a lot of work as of late, bolt carriers and receivers etc

I’m not familiar with SF muzzle devices but it’s possibly a SF product made for FN on their specs and shipped to them.  FN then as contractor do the final packaging.

Just like colt.. you get a colt replacement part like a HG or a stock: the package has the Colt cage code even if it’s an outsourced part.

Yeah they are. They are dimples as deep as the pin holes for the FSP. As long as they don't cause any problems then I don't really care.

All of mine are 99% similar.. made from the 70’s to the 2000.

There’s a long thread about fake colt receivers in the Colt section..

I’m having hard time believing the one I posted is colt since colt stopped using raised C markings 15 years ago.. colt went from raised C to stamped C to cage code.

If you're not opposed to eBay those items as milsurp appear there quite frequently.

Dimpling as deep as the taper pins is the ADCO way for some reason. For anyone considering sending a barrel there I'd suggest sending one of CD's pictures so they can mimic those dimples. Looks like they messed up and put the dimple closest to the muzzle either too close or too far from the first dimple and then just milled a "slot" to where the second dimple belonged.

How are you guys zeroing your MK18s? I’d like a good BZO, I saw something about a 50m zero, seems pretty decent. I also to zero my TA33 at 100m and just see how it does out to 5 or 600m (not expecting too much, lol).

I zero mine for 50y - which works out to roughly a 50/190 yard zero using M193. That zero gives you less than 2.2" variation plus or minus from 10 yards to 220 yards.

Finger prints and CLEO notification sent off today. Now the wait begins

Who do y’all recommend for engraving? Capital Armory seems like a pretty reputable company.
https://www.capitolarmory.com/sbr-sbs-nfa-firearm-engraving.html

Would I just UPS them my SBR lower once approved or how does it work?

Was going to put new carpet in the gun room but keep buying CQBR parts instead.
I guess next step will be CQD mounts. Could steel them off my 14.5” Block II but what’s another $60 at this point

Tarheel State Firearms did a fantastic job on mine. It's in the trigger well and they do not require you to disassemble the lower and remove the buffer tube. They reblacked over the engraving. Same day turnaround time.

Tarheel state firearms

I used fedex for mine. If you use UPS they require you to go to a UPS corporately owned store, "The UPS Store" locations are a franchise and will not ship firearm related items. That was frustrating.
USPS Priority is also good.

Got in my M600DF and SR07 today, and I have to say... while I still love my little M300s, this thing is pretty frickin' awesome :D. It's like having a little miniature sun strapped to your rail, lol.

I'd been leaning toward just going with another M300C, but this popped up at a good price and I decided what the hell - might as well try it. Glad I did.

Is this for just for paper forms or for Fingerprints on e file forms as well?
After I efiled my form 1 I was emailed a cover letter that had a bar code and instructions to send to the WV address

You don’t have to wait until it’s approved to engrave it.
Guess I’ll get it sent off so it’ll be ready when my stamp comes through.

Even if I didn’t get approved for whatever reason I don’t think it’d be a bad idea to have my name inside the trigger guard.

I got my fingerprints done by a professional company and priority mailed them to the ATF as well as priority mailed my CLEO notification and copy of Form 1, so hopefully there’s no problems

I am trying to time my four prong on a DD barrel. To get it timed properly I am using the orange washer that you start with. I had to add 1 green 2 red and 3 no color.
Seems like a lot, so I’m I good to go or did I do something wrong?
My three prong only used the orange washer and 3 no color shim

Also if I use no shim only the orange washer I would have to go much past 30 to get it timed exactly. Thinking 50-60 range.

Who do y’all recommend for engraving? Capital Armory seems like a pretty reputable company.

Was going to put new carpet in the gun room but keep buying CQBR parts instead.
I guess next step will be CQD mounts. Could steel them off my 14.5” Block II but what’s another $60 at this point

Can't answer your first question since I got someone local so I don't have to waste money on shipping and extra days for a 15minute job.

Get it engraved now so once your form 1 is approved you can plug and play and not have to wait a few extra days.

It can be frustrating for sure, if you do it correctly.

I think the instructions say to use no more than 3 shims, but I could be remembering incorrectly.

It's possible to use up to six shims using a standard commercial SF shim kit (green + red + 4 no color), so that's perfectly normal. Just sandwich your thinner shims between the two thickest and it'll be fine.

One other thing to keep in mind is that adding Rocksett will up the torque required by a few pounds and you need to account for that (i.e.: if you're perfectly timed right at 30lbs and then add Rocksett, it'll require more than 30lbs).

ETA: Your best bet is to time at around 20-25lbs, so that you end up below max torque once you apply Rocksett.
