I had the great honor of running a new piece of kit by HSGI at a Defensive Carbine Class last weekend.
www.hsgi.us/proddetail.asp?prod=HSG%2DPOP&cat=20 The mag pouches on the HSGI rig will run up to 6 M4 mags, 4 AK Mags, 4 M14/M1A Mags, or 4 HK G3/Cetme Mags. It also has 2 "poppers" that hold 6 shotshells each. Great for the shotgunner/ breacher on the team. Need to switch from Lethal to Breacher to Non-Lethal is quick cause you have the Shells tucked behind the 4 outside Columns of MOLLE. A dumper pouch built in and is a "popper" too.. I will be posting a full blown review as well as pictures tonight or Monday. This is a busy weekend.. But I will leave you with a little teaser... Im in the Multicam Hat w/STAG lefty and the GUT...

That is a great looking rig. Gene put some thought into that one. I am looking forward to seeing these in person.

The Dumper or the Shotgun shell trays can be moved to any configuration you wish . The dumper can fold up and be stored/deployed either left , right or center . The shotgun shell trays are tethered in the same manner of placement . The Dumper is secured by velcro in the interior of the platform . Gene |
Is that your first shingle pouch? I looked all over for a triple/single layer shingle. Any plans to produce one? |

It's not a separate shingle...it's sewn to the chest rig. Gene @ HSGI can say for certain, but based on our conversations, I don't believe he's planning to make a "single layer" shingle. |

Here soon , HSGI will be offering a modular open top version of the UMMP in single and double pouch . We've been making already for our local marines for awhile now . As for a single layered shingle , we have no plans to make at this time . On the HSGI "Popper" , they are sewn onto the platform . Gene |

So I finally got back into town. Now for the review. I went to HSGI and talked to Gene one day early January and discussed with him a Low Profile chest rig for an upcoming Carbine Class.. (the one NCPatrolAR spoke of above  ) I went over my needs and wants out of it and he said he had "just the rig" already on the drawing board. After a couple more visits and trying on Prototypes I realized my fat ass needed a little more material. So the girls made mine with 2 columns of PALS webbing wider. I looked at the requirements for the Carbine class and decided to run 4 pistol Mags on my left side and a Mini Modular EOD pouch on my right to hold Waterproof Fieldbook, Waterproof pen, and Digital Camera.. Day one of the class got my kit in order. I used the Mag pouch on the right as my Go-To mags and down stocked from the left pouch after completing the Wyatt protocol. The way I had the Pistol pouches located worked out perfect for me. I shoot my Rifle with my left hand and my pistol with the right. When transitioning to Pistol I let the rifle hang right in between the 2 rifle pouches or around the left side. Reloads were really smooth with the rifle. I did have a couple of WTF moments when I did not clear the bungie retention all the way before trying to extract the mag. Going prone wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I wasn't pushed up like I was afraid would happen. Mag extraction was actually really easy prone. The Gear Sector Single Point Sling worked really well with this rig not snagging anything and just feeling good. I set this rig up over body armor and it fit nicely. Contoured right to it. I believe this was Gene's Intention as this Chest rig is designed more towards Swat/Entry/Tac teams. I am willing to bet that it will work well with 3 gunners also. This weekend I used it with some shotgun shells in the poppers, I still haven't used the drop pouch. At the class we THREW our mags to the ROCKS.. But I have switched the dumper from the middle "compartment" to the right one. I don't foresee any problems leaving it in the center positions though. All in all, I am really excited I was the first user ever of this new rig. I am very impressed with its performance, and like every other HSGI product I own its a bombproof piece of kit. when I received my Popper it had plenty of shock cord, so when I test fit AK Mags, I tied new knots to make up for the tall AK mags.. I'll post more pics of AK Mags in it and what I'm talking about.... I dont have any other Mags besides full size BDM .22's, 30rd AK's, and 30rd AR's..... While holding only 2 mags per pocket, or even 1. there is shock cord tension around the front and sides of the mag pouch.. Lemme know if you want me to do something to my rig.. CXS |

We just got these and and they are very cool. There was some concern about the placement of the dumper. It can be moved from the center to either side so it doesn't smash your balls loaded with mags. This is a very comfortable and very modular rig. Here are a few motivational pictures. Bare Popper.  Popper with shotgun panels and dumper pulled out.  Loaded with a few 00 Buck shells, Brenneke Slugs, Mags, Bleeder Blowout and Small Utility Pouch.  |

Hmmm...Multicam... I've been looking for AK pouches with elastic retainers for a while. I've also been looking for a good Multicam chest rig. Looks like two birds, one stone here. Anyone know if these will adjust well for skinny guys (5'10", 155#)? ETA: Are the mag pouches it comes with fixed or can they be moved? |

The positioning of them seems OK, and the price is right, so I could probably live with that. I didn't know you had it with you. I guess I wasn't paying attention. My go-to is my AK. |

As requested, pics using PMags. It was tough getting these into the pouch. I didn't get a chance to try and remove loaded PMags (since none of mine are loaded), but I imagine it will be...interesting. I think 3 mags is too much, myself, and regardless of type will likely only carry 2 per pouch. Finally, I didn't adjust the Popper to where I would normally wear it...which would be about 3-4 inches lower.    |

I figured they would fit real snug. Gonna have to talk with Gene about PMAG Usage.. And I only ran 2 per pouch primarily during the carbine course.. I am seeing too many threads with "what pouch for PMAG".. CXS |

So, I stopped by HSGI on Friday.. Seen the first "All Molle" version of the popper.. And they are also making some Modular Open top UMMP pouches.. I'll post some pics probably next week after my SO comes home and I can use her camera.. CXS |

I think I got the last one there. Ordered it, went back to the website and they were no longer available. Hope you don't mind me not ordering from you guys, but I just couldn't pass up that price.  Mine's been in my hot little hands for all of 5 minutes, but so far I think it'll do nicely for my needs. I've got a sm/med utility pouch on one side and the HSGI bleeder/blowout on the other. ETA: The khaki rig and multicam pouches do fine together, just in case anyone's worried about clashing.  ETA again: Crummy cell phone pic:
