On August 27, Trump sent out a Tweet claiming that Canada was being 'very difficult to negotiate with' and that the US might have to leave NAFTA. Without 60 votes only a limited amount of legislation makes it to a floor vote. Without at least 50 votes, nothing passes. The Democrats already had the means to block legislation: 46 Democrat senators, 2 "independent" senators who caucus with the Democrats and 3 "Republican" senators who will vote with them when the chips are down. Oh yeah, TOTALLY! The party that holds the Presidency typically does really well during mid-terms. View Quote Democrat Senators are running in ten states that Trump won. Six of those states were won by double digits. Nine of those states are in the midwest/rust belt which is trending GOP. The democrat senators up for re-election are in a bind. If they support Trump's initiatives, this makes Trump looks better by securing wins, and it improves the economy, which helps the party in power. If they oppose Trump's initiatives, the voters in those states will be irate with them. It's a lose-lose deal. The House is a little more competitive, but the crackdown on the illegals and voter fraud is going to negate whatever advantage the dems think they have. How is giving the democrats everything they want not the definition of a RINO? Why is it bad when everyone else does it, but super awesome when Trump does it? It's obvious to see why the democrats like short term debt limits. They get concessions each time. Pretty sure in December they will be willing to extend it again for three months as long as none of the money can be used for a border wall, and Trump agrees not to deport any dreamers.
