Many powerful interests (insurers, medical care provides, pharmaceutical companies, etc.) are committed to saving Obamacare, at least for a time.
Our heroic members of Congress are dancing to the tune.

The Republicans are working on a plan to save ObamaCare.
The hearings started last week. Two more are scheduled for this week.
Part of the plan is to legalize the subsidies paid to the insurance carriers.

No, if the GOPe has its way and allows the legalization of subsidies to insurance companies, etc., for payouts, insurance premiums, etc., it will keep it from "dying on its own".

Maybe.

That's as good as I can answer.

He wants more independence in our healthcare system and allow private insurers to do business across state lines are what his two most important desires seem to be.

He will NOT get this from this current Congress IMHO.

Above all I believe he wants to get the ball rolling on repeal..........then replacement with some effective healthcare laws.  He, as I stated, will NOT get this from this current Congress.

Let's not forget continuing the funding of expanded Medicaid.
"Conservatives" such as Governor Kasich are very concerned about the states having to assume some of the cost of the program they adopted. ("The horror, the horror.")
Another "conservative", Senator Graham, has a plan to accommodate them.

If everyone can take a break from petty sniping for a minute, I had some serious questions about this issue:

1) What do we realistically expect the Republicans were going to accomplish with regard to the Debt Ceiling that would have made us glad the Republicans were in charge of the process instead of Democrats?

2) Since the Republicans still control the House and Senate, what would have been the outcome if the Republicans had quit sitting on their hands, come up with a superior solution than what Democrats carved out with Trump, and then presented THAT funding bill to Trump instead?

Thanks for any serious answers.

So for the Trumptards, why can't you answer a simple question! "Why isn't Trump a RINO?"

He makes no effort to keep his promises.

He supports the Dems.

He surrounds himself with Dems.

He lies at every opportunity.

He all for buying favors.

He's all for throwing money away.

He has no morals or principles.

Sounds like the exact same reasons why you hate the GOPe...

Once again: Why is it you Trump guys cannot discern shades of gray? It's not either/or. In this case it's GET BOTH.

The GOPe is the swamp. They suck. This is known.

Trump was hired to drain the swamp. He has not done this.

I believe both are at fault.

Why is it Trumpers only think if you hate DT you must love the McCains and the like.

I loathe all who act like conservatives during the primary but act like a democrat when in office.

The distinction is that I'm willing to hold everyone accountable, especially myself. I won't ever make excuses, and try to justify my support for a politician who stabs me in the back.

The only reason RINOs have power is because we let them. Refuse to support them when they refuse to support you is the only way to change their behavior.

The Trumpers here refuse to hold Trump accountable. They refuse to even consider criticizing him, and make the most ridiculous rationalization for his behavior.

I think I've identified at least part of the problem.  The question that I asked (you even highlighted the specific question for convenience) had nothing whatsoever to do with the answer that you provided.  I didn't ask what Trump promised, I asked what you "realistically" expected to come out of the current Republican congress.  Seems like you have given up on engaging in logical and realistic discussion on this topic in favor of taking random, unrelated shots at Trump.  I don't think it's helpful, but you do you.

You asked: "What do we realistically expect the Republicans were going to accomplish with regard to the Debt Ceiling
that would have made us glad the Republicans were in charge of the
process instead of Democrats?"

My implied answer (with a somewhat healthy dose of sarcasm, as always) was that anyone who voted for Trump in the primary should realistically expect and demand that the federal debt be paid off 7 years from now pending Trump's re-election, because that's exactly what they were promised.  It doesn't matter what my expectations were as I'm not the one that set the bar, he was.

I'll give you an example:  I live in Canada.  My 'Prime' Minister is Justin Turdeau.  When Justine was running for office under the Liberal party, he promised to increase immigration, to raise taxes, to spend more, and to grow the size of government.  So far he has accomplished all four of these things.  I could have said: "I expect Turdeau to decrease spending and regulations if he wins the election", but again, it doesn't matter what my expectations are.

I also don't think it's helpful to take random, unrelated shots at Trump as it's obvious that Trump himself responds quite negatively to any type of criticism.  His hardcore followers also tend to get quite defensive and standoffish when confronted with 'alternative realities' to their own.

I'm sure we're all proud that Canada has found one honest politician.  Meanwhile, in America, Trump can't actually control the debt limit or pass spending bills on his own.  So my question about what THE REPUBLICANS IN CONGRESS might have realistically done on THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE still stands.  I'm not super interested in your personal slap fight with Trump or even people who might agree with Trump.

That is an interesting attitude considering every prior President has been held accountable.

Not The House, not the Senate but The President

Trump was supposed to come in and take control of the self serving Swamp Denizens and has run into a solid wall from the Right and open arms from the Left.

Why is that?

Uhm, that's not entirely true, as evidenced by his fantastic negotiation skills last week.

Additionally, nothing is stopping Trump from introducing his own budget that could 'control the debt.'

Acknowledging the reality of how spending is controlled through Congress doesn't really count as giving Trump a pass.
It's weird that the anti-Trumpers can't figure that out.
But I'm impressed by how far out of the way you are willing to go to avoid answering what I considered to be a fairly reasonable and straightforward question.

You went directly at the Trump opposition.

That's not how this works.

Trump told you that only he could fix this.  Only he could get the government back in line.  Only he could bitch-slap the GOPe cucks into submission and make them do what he wanted them to do.

He was supposed to be the best thinker with the best words and greatest ideas that the Republcians would have no problem going along with.

Ted Cruz was a 'nasty' and 'weak' guy who 'didn't have any friends' and 'couldn't get anything done' because 'nobody likes him.'  Oh, and his dad shot JFK and maybe MLK, but I digress.

Trump was supposed the be the fighter and the winning winner!  He's a fighter and a winner who was going to fight and win when the going got tough -- not just rollover and cave in like all of the other cuck Republicans that were running.
View Quote
#NeverTrumpers sure do put a lot of effort into trying to reframe the matter at hand, rather than simply acknowledging the reality of the situation.

Such as the reality that in fact President Trump did not cave like the cuck GOPe (who were happier watching Obama fuck America than in advancing anything approaching a conservative agenda). Instead, President Trump found another path for getting done what he wants to get done.

The GOPe has managed to achieve the divide-by-zero impossibility of being the majority party, but being irrelevant. Maybe they'll wise up and get on board for the big win before its too late, but from our perspective, that doesn't really matter.

I'm so confused as to why McConnell and Ryan don't pass a whole bunch of conservative bills so the President can advance their conservative philosophy

It is almost like the President even told them to pass a healthcare bill so he could sign it but even after almost 8 years of crying they somehow didn't have a healthcare bill for Trump to sign.

Man, if someone had an IQ above room temp they might think that Ryan and McConnell were liars and obstructionists

The very first thing the President asked them to pass, was a RINO, Big Government Healthcare bill that would make Obamacare permanent and tie it around the necks of Republicans.

Ryan and Trump were in that together.

The President lobbied for it, and he attacked the conservatives who blocked that RINO bill.

The Conservatives were the obstructionists.  They "obstructed" The President and the RINOs' plan to own Obamacare.

Since then, what bills that came from the President (as part of HIS agenda) have been "obstructed"?

The Repeal Bill was a half-assed reaction to their failure to pass the RINOcare bill, and it was not a clean repeal bill.

There is no "conservative philosophy" driving any of this.  It's just a mess, with plenty of blame to go around.

It HAD looked as though the team had gotten their shit together with tax cuts.   They were working on unified messaging and a plan to have a bill by December 15th.  Unfortunately, that's now right about the same time that we will need a new CR and extension of the debt ceiling.

US To Propose Watered Down North Korea Sanctions To Appease China And Russia

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-09-11/us-propose-watered-down-north-korea-sanctions-appease-china-and-russia

the US has materially weakened its proposed North Korea sanctions, "in an attempt to appease" Pyongyang’s allies Beijing and Moscow following negotiations over the past few days. In order to pass, a resolution needs nine of the 15 Security Council members to vote in favor and no vetoes by any of the five permanent members — the United States, Britain, France, Russia and China.

In the latest indication that the US is desperate to reach a diplomatic compromise over North Korea, even if it means appeasing Beijing and Moscow, Reuters reports that while the UN Security Council is set to vote on Monday afternoon on a U.S.-drafted resolution to impose new sanctions on North Korea over latest nuclear test, as discussed on Friday, the new draft no longer proposes blacklisting North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, while also dropping a proposed oil embargo - something Beijing had vocally opposed - and instead intends to impose a ban on condensates and natural gas liquids, a cap of 2m barrels a year on refined petroleum products, and a cap on crude oil exports to North Korea at current levels.

Candidate Obama said he had a plan to cut the deficit. Did he cut the deficit? Was he "held accountable"?

Candidate Bush II said there would be no more nation building. Did he end nation building? Was he "held accountable?"

The examples of candidates saying one thing and doing another are so numerous that everyone with the slightest degree of political sophistication ignores everything candidates say during a campaign.

Held accountable in the court of public opinion

The President is seen as the owner of everything that happens during their term
Not Congress

"everyone" means everyone.

Did those people believe what Trump said?
Who knows? Who cares?
They may have been true believers who were every bit as naive as the members of the "priesthood".
They may have been operatives who cared not a bit about the candidates' promises.
If they were true believers they had no political sophistication.
