My main saw is a 550XP MKII, 20" bar, DIY muffler mod, 562 bucking spike, and a 3/4 wrap handle from a 562.

Don't have a good pic of my climbing saw but it's an Echo CS2511T, DIY muffler mod, 14" Oregon bar. For a 25cc saw it's incredible and it weighs nothing.

Both saws pictured here, this was last weekend, cleared 3 trees blocking access to our camping spot. Earlier this year we cut our way through 2 miles of downed trees to reach another camping spot. I guess the late snow this spring really wreaked havoc on the trees.

This was a 100ft tall Black Locust with 3 leaders, one of them fell (you can see the rot), I climbed the remaining two and cut them down.

No fire place at our house so no need to cut a lot of wood.  I have some health issues so I do not have any big saws.... But I do have to cut fallen tree limbs and small trees a couple times a year at 3 different properties. I have a Sthil 180 with 16 inch bar that is super handy. Got a  Sthil 025 from a yard sale 12 years ago, rebuilt carb and it runs really well..and a yard sale Sthil 08S that I spent too much money on buying parts..got it running real good but have never cut anything with it.

Details on the spike upgrade for the 550 please.

It's probably my one gripe about the saw and I certainly missed some better spikes today.

Here's a pic of the 550 spike on top of the 562 spike. You need to cut away the portion with the hole on the 562 spike and drill a new hole to match where the hole on the 550 spike is.

I use bone stock Echo CS-490 and Echo CS-590 Timberwolf.  I buy cheap Australian blades from Amazon on days where I'm doing cuts involving a lot ground work and Echo chains on days I'm cutting trees down.

I leave them none stock because they're reliable as hell,  choke,  pull 3 times hard, turn choke off, start, EVERY TIME and I hate dealing with carbs any more.  The 590 is not light,  but I use it 90% of the time because it's weight helps a lot of the time when cutting up firewood size pieces.

WooHoo, powersaws!!

Go big, or go home.

Husqvarna 3120XP with 44" bar/chain.

I'm 6'3" 285 for reference.

Next up, the legendary Husqvarna 372XP OE with 24" 3/8.

And then my favorite saw, Grandpa's 1989 Husqvarna 254XP ported by Huskihl. Runs a 20" 3/8 most of the time. Is NASTY for a 54cc saw.

FWIW, was a Stihl man for many years until I inherited Gramp's 254. Now I own three 254s, and various other Stihl/Husqvarna saws.

The Stihl I miss the most (MS241C)

I run mostly Oregon EXL chain, cuts awesome and sharpens well with a hand file (much better than Stihl RS IMHO).

Iredell. Traded a trailer for a new 372xp & 580bts from a dealer off 115 in north Iredell. Bought the 394 used with a burnt top end for $125. Put a meteor 395 jug & piston on and it’s a beast.

Now with 28" sugihara (because bending to buck logs sucks) Balances the same as the stock 24".
Have added West coast 3 point dogs since, but no pics yet. Muffler mod in near future

Edited to add,  running oregon exl full comp and exj (skip) chains on the 7310p. Still running the stock chain on the 2511p.
Safety gear is Husky technical forest helmet and chaps

This. I have an "old" home Depot rental saw.(dcs6401) I bought it with the intention of putting the 88cc jug and piston on it but it runs like a raped ape with the 20" bar and full comp. semi chisel chain so I haven't messed with it. It even still has the muffler with the cat intact. I've thought about picking up a ~24" bar for it for when I run into the bigger stuff though. The sugihara lw bars look awesome, but I'd probably cry if I mangled one. Lol

@konger

The bottom holes line up.

Grind where the upper hole of the 562 spike is so it matches the contour of the 550 spike.

Then drill a new upper hole in the 562 spike.

When I get home this afternoon I need to look up 562 spike part numbers-they make a couple different ones.

At one time, I had 53 Pro Stihl saws.  I'm down to about 25 now.
I got most of them off E-bay where the main bearings were roached.  I would split the cases, change the bearings and have a nice saw on the cheap.
I ended up with so many spare parts that I assembled 3 complete saws from spare parts alone.

Learned a lesson today.

Only run the saw while wearing shorts.  Less of a chance of ruining a pair of pants.

Was clearing out some small trees from an old cellar hole which will sort of be my front yard in the future.  Real shitty footing on the rocks from the cellar.  Cut a couple things, let off the throttle, shifted the leg-oops.

Only a little nibble.

I have 6 Stihl chainsaws. Paid around $400 total for all of them. My dad gave me his 180 and 044 18 years ago. Bought 026, 036,& 066 last 4 years. Brother in law gifted me another 180 he didn't use.

Haven't had to do much to any of them until this last year. Age of rubber parts is showing up. I need the 044 worked on, crank seals and impulse line are leaking.   I pulled the side completely a part starting the 036 one day.  Its fixed up now.

Most of the saws are old enough that they don't have much muffler restriction.  I have opened up the exhaust on the mufflers on the 036 and larger saws.  Stihl bars, and chains for the most part.  Oregon chain works well but stretches the first couple tanks of gas run on them.

I have chaps for me and a helper.  Ear plugs, gloves, safety glasses, extra chains, wedges, files to sharpen with, a nice boys axe for delimbing and driving wedges.
