Likely defeats Level II armor.

Meets a need.

I just built one with a 9" barrel that accepts 30 round AR mags.  I call it the 300 Blackout Lite when loaded to below 2000 FPS....

21mm case?  Holy fuck, this might actually be something.

I already want a 6-shot hammerless J-frame clip gun with a shortened cylinder.

Aha, 115 at 1160, not 1250

Still high cap for gun size could be interesting.

.05" smaller diameter case than 9mm, so that's +1 in a mag, right?

Fuck yes. Now build a modern Pedersen Device to run it through .30 bolt guns.

YEP! other than extending the cartridge case length about .010" or so, it actually is a magnum styled version of the 7.65 french Longue, as the OAL is within .08" of the original round... They elongated the case for powder capacity and shortened the bullet to achieve maximum velocity. They played with the dimensions, but any reasonable person would assume this could be fired in a French 1935s pistol with a properly reamed chamber... What's old is new again!

The Shield EZ holds 8 rounds of .380 and 10 rounds of .30SC, and I'd imagine the gains in capacity would be even better in double stack guns. So, we're getting more than one extra round here.

Given that we have no idea what the pressure specifications for this cartridge are or how it compares to 7.65 French Longue... no. No reasonable person would make that assumption.

Man I've thought about making a longer, stronger casehead .30" pistol cartridge for a while.  You could exceed 9mm in capacity and get some nice ballistics with low recoil.

Like start with a .32 ACP, ditch the semi-rim, extend to about 1.300" COAL and make the casehead able to withstand 40k PSI.

It's like they got in my head.  I even figured 115s for supers and imagine how quiet some 160gr subs would be.

Why though? In a full size this would get you 20-21 rounds flush and we all know the actual performance would be on par with 9mm since there is miniscule difference in bullet diameter. Sounds like it could easily be a 9mm replacer going by all the metrics used in ballistics.

I wonder if this is some new wonder round being introduced at SHOT show and a few retailers jumped the gun.

Found something saying the 100 grain ammo runs around 1200fps... so basically it's a smaller diameter 9mm... and for what?

Dang. What a waste.  .30 at 1200 is better than .35 at 1250?

Well it fits the 9mm is better than .40 S&W which is better than .45acp because bullet technology bro types. They should jump on the extra capacity no downsides because bullet technology bandwagon just like every other smaller cartridge bandwagon.

Will it happen who knows but it will be interesting to see what marketing can do.

The .30 Super isn't listed on Nighthawk's website yet that I can see but since they say orders are a year and a half out currently I don'r see them getting to it anytime soon.

Isn't the FN 5.7 a 20rd capacity?  It's a big pistol though (light, but big for CCW).
View Quote

But diameter of the brass for the round is something like .311, .32 acp is bigger even. And the fn5.7
Is bigger than a glock 17 (grip length is .5 inches longer) and so where around 1.4 inches thick vs 1.1 got a glock 17.

Just start with .30 carbine brass. A longer 10mm version of this for .45acp/10mm pistols would be cool. Hell you could make a standard 1911 hicap with the cartridge. Ejectors might be the difficult part.

This could actually be a pretty cool development. With the smaller case diameter, gaining a few rounds capacity over 380 and possibly beating it ballistically could be a nice improvement.

I’ve always thought 380 was a stupid round, being the same diameter as 9mm and just a tad shorter, but a much weaker cartridge. It just never made much sense to me.  This round could make up the difference.
