Not my quote but I agree with it and have seen lived through it in many online discussion forums that I either don't frequent anymore or they don't exist anymore.

GD has become pretty soft compared to years ago. Deal with real trolls? fine, Deal with threats or Arocking?, Fine. Worrying about everyone's feels? Yeah that is going to be tough to accomplish.

Last evening I was seriously contemplating buying a membership, even with the Brownells taking over. But in light of this new information, I'm no longer considering it... at least anytime soon. Why do people think more regulation is a good thing? Obviously some is needed, but it's a fine balance and I think ARFCOM is tipping the balance in the wrong direction.

Agree it all sounds good in theory.

As long as the line between insults and humor is clearly defined because both are highly subjective and if it's up to mod interpretation that can be iffy. Doesn't really affect me as I'm no good at either.

I really meant the last two years especially. When I joined in 2013, there were a lot of 13ers getting the boot. It was pretty standard to see. A lot of the rest just dropped off because they weren't being tolerated, the rest that wanted to talk guns and make friends stuck around. The two years it's turned into just a constant circle jerk of people posting bullshit spam filled fake news articles, not responding, letting the dog pile of people screeching their same old phrases, then dump into the next one. All the while the cool thread about a guy making something by hand, or a discussion on something interesting gets buried and impossible to find. The experienced posters who used to post real information have left and it's all been replaced by memes and people yelling borderline racist nonsense. It's now a race to see who can post the catchphrase of the week first in a post or say something stupid.

I'm going with this. In a bully and insult administered/moderated world, the convoy must always move as slow as the slowest and most sensitive ship. We'll call it the SS Snowflake for now... A peaceful forum can easily be a mediocre one filled with cat pics and members looking for a shoulder to cry on.

I get it, no shenanigans in the focused forums. General discussion is the place for that. Now that 'might' be in jeopardy. We lost something when over a decade ago, we could no longer have over the top slug fests in GD. I hope we don't lose again when we can't call a guy who just put gas in his diesel generator a moron.

Ultimately, I'm not going anywhere unless banned. This place is great for news and entertainment, even if the latter is being neutered a bit.
