Quoted: Back in the 1700's, Lobster WAS the "poor man's food" Kids would be embarrassed to bring a lobster sandwich to school. How it became rich man's food is interesting. Same with chicken wings, they couldnt GIVE it away at the butcher, Now since the invention of buffalo wings, the prices soared. View Quote I see someone watches townsends and sons |

I believe there were/are laws in Maine that feeding prisoners lobster too often is forbidden and considered inhumane.
I totally agree. Garbage sea cockroach that literally eats rotting flesh and fish poop. No thanks. |

Quoted: As a Mexican-American, I know about how fads totally fuck up the prices of meats. I remember buying cow tongue and cheek meat for cheap. Hell, beef fajitas used to be cheap as hell, too. Even menudo (beef tripe) is expensive and don't get a heart=attack when you see the price of honeycomb tripe! View Quote Sabes bien, compadre... |

If you want poor man's lobster that is actually a shellfish:
Argentinian red shrimp are the way to go. These things are huge and offer similar texture/taste. Also you are only paying for meat by the lb. Not meat and shell |

Not impressed with lobster. I always think it's going to taste like crab...but it doesn't.

If you really want to become distrustful of food, look up imitation calamari

If you like scallops but don't want to pay for them, sea skate taste just like scallops. Fillet the wings and use a cookie cutter to stamp out some scallops....

Quoted: I've tried making poor man's lobster a couple times and I'm too "poor" to have ever had real lobster. I don't know if I botched cooking it or not, but if that's what lobster tastes like, I'm good. I'll stick to stuff like shrimp and crawfish. You need better friends. And it's illegal to eat crawfish without drinking beer, so if you show up with a case or 2 of Bud Lite, or whatever the popular beer in your AO is to fill the community ice chest, you jump straight to the front of the all you can eat line. Quoted: 100% truth. I've never understood people's obsession with sea roaches and bugs. Lobsters, shrimps, crawfish, crabs, etc. Disgusting. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes |

Quoted: 1) I love cowboy kent rollins. I've made a bunch of his recipes and they've all been awesome. 2) in the weird state of wisconsin, many restaurants serve baked and seasoned cod cut into chunks with a side of drawn butter and call it poor man's lobster. We also eat walleye cheeks and call them scallops. View Quote You haven't lived until you've had walleye cheek chowder. It's AMAZING!!!! |

They have a strange sweet taste and the texture is weird. |

Quoted: Our seafood dinners have subsided quite a bit since my son gets migraines when he eats shellfish. So I came across this video. Anyone try it? Is it close? Think I will try it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvu-WlIE5C8 View Quote Haven't watched the video, but I assume Eel Pout. They taste just like Lobster. |

Deviating some, but a poor-man's shrimp cocktail is raw cauliflower flowerettes dipped in cocktail sauce (both daughters are vegetarian). It's very good.

Lobsters, crabs, crayfish etc are all just sea bugs, big f'ing sea bugs.
Pretty damned delicious but when you get right down to it they are underwater bugs. |

I have heard that ray/skate tastes like scallops. Most of the rays I have caught have been Texas Stingrays. I know they get bigger, but the ones I have caught have been about 16" (none of those large things I have seen in the bahamas). I did get into a school of cow nosed rays once. I wanted to try one but the people I was fishing with would not have it. They were convinced 1) they knew more than me, and 2) it would taste like shit. The cow nosed rays were one hell of a fight - those had about 3' wing spans.
- Anyway was going to do the recipe today - but no lemon. Will try to get some lemon later this week and try again then. |
