All common pistol rounds are overrated. Both 9mm and .45ACP are good enough, nothing more and nothing less.

No, its a man's caliber, that goes in man guns, like the 1911

9mm is for ninnys.

And no, I don't care to be shot with it.

Let me shoot you with a 45acp round and you can tell me if the damage is overated.

Like everything in life, it depends on what you want to do with it. Super accurate pistols to shoot tight groups with, its a great caliber. Service pistol? I really dont see what it brings to the table that the 9mm or .40 S&W do not. Other than higher cost of ammo, and either a lower capacity or much larger pistol than either of the other two calibers. YMMV.

Ask anyone thats been shot with a .45 if it is an effective round.

I know a recent story where a cop shot a guy 17 times with a .45 before finally incapacitating him.

The officer now carries a 9mm.

I do not like shooting a 1911

It's unpleasant to me.  I never enjoy shooting that gun.

I don't know why, I shoot far hotter 44 loads without any discomfort at all.

It must have incapacitted him enough to allow for a few reloads. 17 rounds? Well I guess a GLock 21.........still call bullshit.

Not all that hard to believe actually. A good number of hits anywhere other than the heart or head to a tweaked out meth-head wouldnt drop him till the blood loss caght up with him.

I do get tired of hearing it discussed by people who have no fucking clue what they are talking about.

One shot's all it takes.
Close enough if you're shooting a .45.
Knock a man down.
When you're shooting .45, all you need is 8 rounds.

At the very least, we're missing a piece of the story. For example how much PCP (methamphetimine, etc., etc., etc.) had the target consumed in the 4 hours preceeding the shooting?

No, I meant physically holding the actual rounds of ammo next to each other (what you posted is not what I described).  If 9mm is good, imagine what a round that looks to be twice the size and twice as heavy can do.

I just put a .68 round ball next to a pulled .308 bullet, guess the .68 must be superior than the .308.

Shuddup you sarcastic bastard

As one and as one said most pistol rounds are overrated.
That being said, line up some autopistol rounds, like .32acp, .380acp or  even 9X18mm, 9mm parabellum and then .45 acp.
Which one would you NOT want to get hit with?

No, .45 ACP is currently the whipping boy of the internet's group think.

If anything 9mm is technically overrated, as you will see its fans say "well all handgun rounds are pretty much the same" while absolutely refusing to acknowledge that "pretty much the same" does not mean exactly the same. Many 9mm fans are totally unwilling to admit to any performance differences of any kind, no matter how small or minute.

Oh, and there are the morons advocating 9mm FMJ for use against bears

9mm is an effective defensive pistol cartridge - but it has also dethroned the .45 as the most overrated pistol cartridge today.

I agree.  I'm a 9mm guy because the slight loss in... I hate to say it, but... stopping power is made up for many times with capacity, recoil control and ammunition expense.

Got both but carry 9s, generally because of capacity and the fact that 9x19 Glocks are some of the most trustworthy pistols on the planet in my experience and I shoot them well.

If I think something really isn't going to die easily, it's time to break out the 10mm Auto, or just grab a rifle.

It is certainly overrated.

During my time at CTD I saw more ignorant comments about .45acp than all other calibers combined. The one that always comes to mind was the guy who said he didn't need to buy mags for his 1911 because he just kept a round chambered and the gun cocked and locked. Since he never misses and the .45acp always knocks them down immediately, he felt no need to even put a magazine in his carry gun.

That's not a statement about the .45 as much as a statement about rabid fans of the .45.

Meanwhile, back in reality, I know of a negligent discharge at a place of employment, in a cubicle environment, where the round failed to penetrate the metal wall of the cubicle, perhaps saving a life. I guess that's a high quality cubicle, but if a thin sheet of pot metal is cover and not concealment we should probably be re-assessing the almighty wonders of the cartridge.

PS Pat Rogers is shooting 9mm now. Just sayin'.

No, thats a statement by a maroon. We aint all that dumb. Its just a preference thing, sometimes I carry a 9, sometimes a .45. Mostly .45.
