Rifle.
Pistols are designed to give you enough time to retrieve a rifle. |

Definitely not the first time someone's looked to make the BAR more compact!

I figure I'll have more need of pistol skills than rifle skills.
That doesn't mean I don't practice with a rifle, but pistols are a bit more difficult, at least for me. |
|
Pistolero! And I train with both, rifle and pistol. However at any given time my dick beaters are within reach of a handgun more than rifle.

If my expertise with each was measured against other people with a per centile score pistols would be highest, then rifles, and in last place shotguns.
As far as pleasure/recreation the ranking would be the same. |

Rifles for me, with the AR15 being my main firearms interest.
Pistols just never really caught on with me, but I eventually bought one just to have one (HK VP9). That was back in 2015 when I finally gave in and I still haven't been interested enough to buy into any other pistol... They just aren't very useful to me. Now shotguns are completely useless, unless you hunt birds, so I've never owned one and I probably never will. |

Honestly I can’t say definitively that I like rifles or pistols better. I recognize the rifle as the more effective weapon if it’s on hand when needed. I shoot my carry pistol more than any of my rifles because it’s what I’m most likely to have with me when I need a gun to defend myself.

I'm into pistols... I've always kinda been into miniaturized things or compact things, so that's what I get excited about..

Rifle for sure..
But red dots on pistols are helping become better with them. |
|
I am a master class pistol shooter and shoot pistol rounds 10 to 1 vs rifle.
I am still better with a rifle. Being capable with a rifle is extraordinarily easy compared to pistol. I think a lot of what makes a good pistol shooter transfers to practical rifle shooting. Rifle doesn’t seem to transfer to pistol. If he proverbial shit were to hit the hypothetical fan, give me a rifle. |

Quoted: Rifle cuz I suck at pistol View Quote i overheard instructor 1-well it's a lot better with whoever these guys are since we finished pistol and started rifle instructor 2-Yeah that was painful* they seem like they shoot ARs a lot *I don't think we were really that bad |

I like all 3. I feel like shotguns/shotgunning is really dying out. It's all old dudes out on the skeet ranges. Everyone I shoot with has a crappy old pump they shoot like once a year, or once every other year for a day during dove season.

Right tool for the right job for me.
Rifle for general purpose or if I can choose optimal weapon for self defense +/- hunting needs +/- SHTF and any other lawful purpose. Pistol when need to daily carry and conceal and do normal daily activities where rifle is not best choice for what ever reason. Shotgun for bird hunting and clay sports |
|
My rifle skills have been lagging behind my pistol skills for a long time. With a lot of practice, I've about got them even again.
Definitely need more time and maybe some instruction on the shotgun and precision rifles though. |
|
I’m a rifle guy.
I’ve always been good with a rifle, handguns I really need to keep in practice to remain good with. |
|
I love rifles, but I shoot pistols more & think they’re more fun.
Odd I know. I spend a lot more on rifles, I have more rifles, I enjoy seeing cool rifles more. However, pistols are more of a challenge, and that makes them more fun to me at the range. |
|
|
Rifles. I'll shoot a .22 rifle all day, preferably 100y+ Pistol .22 gets old real quick. I pretty much only shoot pistol now for CCW skills.
|
|
I carry a pistol 95+ percent of the time.
So I guess I’m a pistol guy. I love my rifles, but I’m liking my shotguns more and more. I’m conflicted. |
|
I’d rather carry a pistol with 5.56 in it rather than a pistol specific caliber. But pistols themselves are easy to hide in my daily carry. I can put it between me and my seat & backrest or in my purse.
Most people wouldn’t think a woman in wheelchair is carrying a handgun on them. If I could find an AR15 type pistol that doesn’t have to use a buffer tube I could conceivably carry an AR pistol in public. Can’t afford the pistol even if I found one, spent $4000 on my chair it’s going to be awhile before I buy anymore neat stuff. Besides that my next purchase will be a Mike Box titanium suspension daily wheelchair. |
|
Rifle for me, bolt action reach out and touch someone bolt action, I like the others as well, but the far away stuff is what I enjoy shooting the most so thats that...

Goes in phases for me. Loved pistols as a kid, when I got back into shooting as an adult I had a silly "tacticiool" shotgun phase, where I almost always shot slugs or buckshot, then got more into rifles for a time.
Nowadays it's mostly .22 rifles and pistols and a ton of pellet gun plinking in the backyard with the mini me. I love them all |

I shoot more pistol ammo, but shoot shotgun more often. I shoot sporting clays every sunday, but usually only 50 rounds.

I was a rifle guy until I discovered red dots on pistols. And then I built a large frame AR and decided I wanted to learn to shoot long(er) distances. I also took a couple of different defensive shotgun classes in the not so distant past.
So I guess my answer is yes. |
|
Handgun, but I really enjoy a good day on the dove field or even just hanging out informally shooting clays from the machine bolted to the tractor rim.

I think a lot of what makes a good pistol shooter transfers to practical rifle shooting. Rifle doesn’t seem to transfer to pistol. I've seen this firsthand. Dudes that are extremely skilled at pistol and then take up rifle have a much easier on ramp. When I used to take a lot of carbine classes, I'd see dudes that were extremely skilled at rifle that would then transition to their pistol and it was cluster fuck. Quoted: I still can’t wrap my head around the amount of nerds we have here who don’t like shotguns. Shotgun matches are really fun for me but they've been on a steady downhill for a long time. I think it's because if you take an average shooter to their first match, it will be very difficult for them because they haven't really practiced reloading on the clock. |

Rifles
Love all the other ones too, but always been a rifle guy |
|
|
Although I used to train and compete with a pistol, and I hunt upland birds and shoot clay targets with a shotgun; rifles are my strong suit. I especially shoot open sight rifles well ..at distance.

The correct answer would be "YES" to all three options. Why limit yourself??
