It will have to burn itself out. It's that intense. All the folks calling for air drops are insane. Helicopters are great for spot fire suppression, but a few hundred gallons of water would evaporate before it even hit the ground. You might as well piss on it. Airtankers are fairly rare, highly specialized, and need lots of support. If they are nearby it can still take hours to plan, fill, and fly them to wildfires. Dumping one in the middle of a crowded city could collapse structures and kill people. The best that can be hoped for is to keep the fire from spreading to other structures. View Quote |

Fox News is hanging up on everyone they have on who mentions that there has been a rash of attacks on churches in France. WE CAN'T SPECULATE! Do we think any of the relics will survive? View Quote I hate speculation but the next time FOX speculates on a mass shooting they need to be hammered with calls and emails for it. |

Quoted: Why? The news was reporting that the fire was to high to get to so why would that be a dumb idea. Again, it was burning for over two hours before the first truck showed up. Why no a helo dumping water. View Quote |

During Holy Week? In a climate where many other churches have been victimized by arson? Regarding a church that Muslim tried to burn down three years ago? I wouldn't say either scenario is "overwhelmingly likely". View Quote I do think it's a major problem that the media refuses to talk about church attacks or vandalism. |

The numerous recent acts of vadalism and arson of churches in France are valid observations for a potential cause of another church fire. You're really trying hard to ignore that possibility. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Quoted: Did you miss what went on over there the last 4 weeks or so? Up to a dozen churches torched or vandalized per week. This did not happen in a vacuum. Timing between the fire and the last tour group to go through is a giant red flag. So we have one fact supporting the "accident" theory. We have no facts supporting the ROP theory. Conclusion - we don't have enough info. But the endless posts blaming the ROPers doesn't do much except make us look like paranoid morons. Don't get me wrong, I have zero love for ROPers, and I'm not saying its not possible they didn't do this. But I'd like for at least SOME evidence before I point fingers. You're really trying hard to ignore that possibility. |

On a live stream I heard them say the fire began or was spotted about five minutes after the church was closed to the public.

I'm no firefighter and maybe I'm underestimating the age/dryness of those beams. But that seems like an awful nasty fire to come from a construction accident. Were they working with no fire protection equipment anywhere on site? Not even a damn fire extinguisher or two. View Quote Or maybe 9th or something. |

I'm surprised it's still burning. I would think that the flammable stuff would have been consumed by now. Looks like it's still raging in the center where the spire once was.

Speculation, speculation, speculation. As someone else posted, Occam's razor comes into play here. We KNOW, just not just guessing, but KNOW, that the church was under renovation. Other than the wood structure itself, what would act as an accelerant to make it burn so quickly as to be out of control?
Sacramental wine? Beeswax candles? Jihadist fire bomb? |

If I heard correctly, tours end and the whole building is closed at 1830.

Fox News: YOU CAN'T SAY IT WAS TERRORISM! IT'S TOO SOON TO SPECULATE!
Also Fox News: The irony here being that with the church under renovation to save it, and if indeed it was part of the renovation efforts which caused the fire, then it would be the supreme irony that the efforts to save the church destroyed the church, if was indeed the renovation efforts which caused the fire. |

Flip side is that this happened on a holy week and coincides with both a series of attempted and successful church arsons in Paris and the sentencing of an individual (who is a Muslim) who tried to burn this same cathedral down. There is a shot in the live feed that they go to on occasion that showed them. Brave is an understatement. |
