This right here.

I wanted the aircraft carrier, but my parents shut that down. That's also the year I learned about Santa Claus, as icing on the cake.

I would always say to my dad " it's only $99" and he would say something about it being more after taxes...

I had a blue Rattler and a Tiger Force Rattler, which were cool but I think my favorite was the Raven, and the Strato-viper was the coolest looking pilot. I just have my nephews all of my old joes a few days ago, it was fun sorting them out and putting stuff back together.

The price was a problem, but the biggest problem was that it was 8' long. My parents insisted there was nowhere to put it, even though we had a perfectly good hallway. Or living room.

I still have all my GI Joes and the HISS tank.  About the only thing I didn't have was the aircraft carrier.   Unfortunately all the other vehicles are now lost to time.

I've been buying used Joes for my boy. He's not really into them, but I'm going to shove them down his throat until he is.

I haven't gotten him any vehicles. As mentioned, space is an issue.

I usually only had used vehicles, but I had a brand new in the box Havoc. That was my favorite. I did have a used Bridge Layer that was mostly intact, which was awesome.

I'll preface my answer with this, I was not a spoiled child. I was a deprived child.

Now that I have that out of the way, I didn't have any G.I. Joe vehicles. I had some guys and the anti-aircraft gun.
First guy i got was the dude with the mortar. What the heck kind of fighting am I going to do with a mortar? Next guy was the communications dude. If you see a recurring theme, it's soldiers with no guns.  My parents bought my toys, not me.
Later on, I got the machine gunner with the M60 (that's what happens when you use your own money), Cobra Commander and a Cobra Ninja.
My Star Wars action figures and stuff was also on the lean side.

My brother and I had a HUGE G I Joe army when we were younger.  Probably our favorite thing to play together.

I always wanted the Defiant Complex and the Rolling Thunder, but we got into it more after 89 or so.  Looking at YoJoe, it seems we lost interest after around 92.  Or at least we stopped getting new toys because I don't recognize the ones after then.

As soon as my son gets over his DESTROY EVERYTHING phase (he's 2 ), he'll have a heck of an army to play with.  I don't think my brother is ever going to have kids, so hopefully I can rescue his joes too.

ETA - I'd probably vote for the Sky Strikers version of the Night Raven, the Sky Raven, as my favorite.  I loved me some Joe jets.

I had it too .  Saved up my allowance for a whole year for that SOB.

Actually still do disassembled in a box.

My favorite but I'm sure it was probably my parents least favorite.   Bastard took up the whole basement.  I had most of the planes and that fucker just looked awesome all set up with some planes and choppers on it.

I also had the space shuttle thing too.  That was pretty awesome.

I kinda want to raid my boxes of toys and see how much is left of all that stuff.  It would be pretty awesome to set it all up again if I had the space.  I guess could do it in my pole building.

Reposting from another thread,I started sorting all the 82-88 figures by specialty and putting them on Instagram...then realized what a wackadoodle that makes me

Among the last of the  figures I like, realistic Joes were best Joes and these were losing the plot but at least neat.

ebay still has a few...search "sdcc skystriker" they did a vamp with autobot markings (hound) the same year

this year's crossover was a hiss tank in soundwave deco and a rattler colored and striped like the autobot Powerglide. i think devil's due comics had a tf/gi joe crossover run

Not to get overly analytical about freakin' GI Joe but as the 80's progressed the comic book became more and more a place to showcase ever more unrealistic and silly toys for Hasbro marketing. The early Larry Hama writing (which was actually not bad) devolved into inanity and the real focus was on a new weapon in each issue.
I really miss the 80's though, a much simpler and fun time.

Just remembered that I shared a couple of pics in another G.I. Joe thread earlier this year.

These two (three actually) were my favorite Joe and Cobra:

Mutt still looks pissed off after all of these years which is reassuring.
Junkyard still has Mutt's back.
Major Bludd held onto his uzi all this time -- I admire his conviction.

And yeah, those stupid o-rings dry-rotted and broke thus leaving their torsos separate of their bottom halves....

Attachment Attached File

I recall these 5 being the only ones still intact at the waist albeit it precariously:

The guy on the left flew the cobra single-man helicopter IIRC.
Next guy over was a cobra tank driver IIRC -- or was it a crimson guard for cobra commander (or am I thinking star wars?)
Guy in the middle, well, he's f.ckin Zartan -- need I say more?
Snake Eyes was really awesome too.
And I never could commit to memory who the guy on the right was -- he had such a vanilla disposition that rendered him token IMO.

The Serpentor story line and toy were bad,Cobra La was Obama. Still,as an adult,I love the 82-86 series, especially the 85-86 when the sculpting IMO was at its peak. I enjoy some of the small things like Snow Serpent having a vz.58 of all things.

This is great,but awful
