Canada Says 'Potential Second Incident' Linked To Spy Balloon
Canada said Thursday it was working with the United States to track a high-altitude surveillance balloon, and it was monitoring a "potential second incident." "A high-altitude surveillance balloon was detected and its movements are being actively tracked," Canada's defense department said in a statement. https://www.barrons.com/news/canada-says-potential-second-incident-linked-to-spy-balloon-01675402508 |

Quoted: Bringing this down intact would be a treasure-trove of information, especially learning exactly what data it was capturing. Not a trivial task but not impossible. I'm sure some NSA and Air Force teams are researching options for this. View Quote Since we have learned that it is maneuvering, I would like to think that we have some people thinking outside the box and trying to figure out how to override controls, take control, and land it. Great first job for Space Force. |

Now that everyone is mentioning balloons, I watched something similar last Spring. I'm about 7 miles East of JFK airport in NY, and I thought it'd be strange for some type of weather balloon to be in that area. Too slow moving to be a plane,it drifted slowly northward . I was able to grab a telescope and watch it for about 10 minutes. Late afternoon, it had a silver reflective appearance, pretty high altitude...

How do they know its not a bio weapon? If that thing released a bioweapon how would they know?
I am not so sure our government wouldnt cover it up if they did |
|
We should have already brought this damned thing down
Allowing them to do this without consequences really emphasizes to the world that Biden is weak |

The US shouldn't do anything to it. By doing so, it sets a precedence for what they can do to our craft.
Same logic with overflight and why there is a good case to be made that the US let the USSR release the first satellite. |

Quoted: Fun fact - I had a pretty intensive class years ago for first responders to terrorist events. It was taught by some FBI terrorism dudes and the fire chief that was the incident commander at the OKC bombing. One of the scenarios discussed was the utilization of balloons launched off our coasts to drop biologicals into mainland USA. View Quote Tell me more. |

How will we respond?
Send billions more in cash and a few F-16’s to Z Dog. Apparently China is not a threat. |

There's an E-4 out of Andrews showing over northern Missouri now, interesting.

Then holding the crew hostage for 11 days while they tore the aircraft apart for classified information and equipment? |

At first I thought there might be a balloon gap but now I realize what nobody is talking about is that this actually shows a strategic advantage we have now that they have had to resort to using weather balloons after running out of chinesium satellites to spy on us.
These weather balloons have the capability to float around willy-nilly and be visible to the naked eye which shows they lack stealth technology as well. Good job, America. |

watching the news this afternoon and now they are trying to play it off saying its an off course civilian balloon.

So if we don't shoot it down, does anyone think this'll be the last one?
I foresee a steady stream of balloons coming our way with the precedent this sets. The PRC has learned today that as long as it doesn't put jet engines on the craft, it can overfly us whenever it pleases from now on. It shouldn't even be a freaking question. |

Quoted:If a small nuke went off at that elevation how much damage would the emp cause? View Quote There wouldn't be an EMP. The EMP you are thinking about would result from a nuke detonating outside of the earth's atmosphere and the gamma rays interacting with the ionosphere to create that low frequency emp that would do absolutely nothing except pop some breakers |

It would have a transponder and be squawking if it were a legit research balloon, they show up all the time on ADS-B trackers. |
