We have a nearby town named Centralia here in PA. It is, or was I should say, a mining town too. We used to take our 4x4's there all the time and explore.

It's an extremely interesting place. You should look it up

Long story short, the town dump was on a coal seam. Trash fire lit the seam and it's been burning underground for years. Town was eventually evacuated and closed off.

Highway that ran through the town was re-routed around it but you can still get out on it. Looks like a scene from one of those earthquake movies

I don't want or expect anything to happen; but I am fascinated by the geology, the construction of the dam, and the actions being taken to mitigate. Learning a lot from this thread

Current rainfall forecast is right at 6" per 6 days over the lake, 6-8" in the very close north easternly region and up to 12" over the mountains of the basin. For next Tuesday, the forecast is between 2 and 5" on the lake and the closest montain. If you used averages over the entire basin, the forecast looks like that 7" total is going to be exceeded clearly, but whether there will be over 5" in a single day is less likely.

I don't mean five in a single day, I mean there's 5 inches of buffer in there over that time. As in five of the days could have 2 inches of rain.

A buffer nearly used up in the models you are posting.

I have a feeling this is going to be Apollo 13 type winging it until summer.

Yes and no.  I feel horrible for the people impacted by this and if something bad does happen, I will support them as best I can.  On the other hand, watching the raw power and fury of mother nature and how it compares to our limited understanding of her is fascinating.

Last time there was a 24 hour delay from the ramp up of the rain to when the inflow started to trend up. After that there remained a 12 hour delay between changes in rainfall and inflow to the reservoir. If that behavior holds for this storm, we should start to see high inflows late today and the situation as forecast would be worst during Tuesday/Wednesday night or early Wednesday 22nd morning.

Local Sacramento TV stationthis morning was saying the snow level was expected to get up to about 8,000' in the next few days...with the largest storm of the season coming in on Tuesday. Looking for 10"+ of rainfall.

There's a lot of snow that will melt when the freezing level gets up to 8,000'.

I hope the damn dam guys know what they're looking at.
