Quoted: This one tends to have an effect on me every time I listen. I was impressed as Hell the first time I heard it. Apparently he was pretty sick and powered through this live performance, that's why he's seated, which is very uncharacteristic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCsZC3n1V58 There are literally dozens of "first reaction" vids with voice coaches discussing his performance. View Quote same, this is what came to my mind also. It's really impressive. |

Quoted: Sgt. MacKenzie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACJfKk35rbg And "Amazing Grace" on the pipes. Bagpipes just hit me right in the feels. View Quote During WWII, my Father served in a unit of the Black Watch. He told me a story about one night they had a particularly bad fight their unit got into with the Germans that left many dead on both sides. The next morning, his unit's piper began playing a dirge for the dead, and as he played, he walked from a protected place onto a ridge line where the Germans could plainly see him. He continued to march back and forth while playing his pipes as men from his unit went out onto the battlefield to collect their dead. The Germans never did shoot at the piper, and after a while, the Germans also came out to collect their dead. After the dead from both sides were recovered, the piper continued to play as he marched down off the ridge and back to a protected position. Shortly after the piper stopped playing, fighting resumed as usual. There is something about pipes that can evoke the strongest emotions in me...either fighting or mourning. |

20 years ago I was chillin' on a dock, at a lake, in the mountains of North Carolina. One guy brought our a guitar and started picking out a tune. When he was done, another guy, asked for the guitar and proceeded to play the most beautiful song I've ever heard. He said he just made it up. That guy was an interesting dude. Had a smokin' hot girlfriend and raced Porsches. I always wondered what happened to him.

At 2:18, it looked like there are a couple of guys playing sackbuts. Then at 4:15, I can't tell if it is the same thing, or someone else playing a clarin trumpet. Cool, anyway you look at it. |

Quoted: There are a few songs out there that can grab me by the feels. Two are by Jason Isbell. Yes, I know he is a libtard of the highest order but dammit, the guy can write a song and play a guitar. The first is "Elephant" and the other is " If We Were Vampires". "Elephant" is a hard look at dying from cancer and "Vampires" looks at the prospect of life after losing a spouse. View Quote 'If We Were Vampires' got me blinking back tears a few weeks ago... |

There are several. But I’ve stood at attention by too many gravesides not to be pretty much wrecked when I hear Taps
|
|
From the thread, Taps of course tears me up. I'm not a veteran, but my father was in WWII. Taps was played at his funeral, and I have the flag.
Brothers in Arms is very moving, as well. As for Christmas threads, I get misty listening to Celine Dion's version of "O Holy Night". She knocked that one out of the park. I'm not usually a fan of her music, but she did that one great. I play it every year. Another one for me is Peter Gabriel's "Don't Give Up" with Kate Bush singing with him. |

View Quote We were listening to a Christmas playlist a few months ago and one of the song lyrics made reference to "Two Little Boys". I was stumped, as was my wife, so we looked it up. The lyrics are really cool...but do you know anything about Rolf Harris? He turns out to have a conviction on 12 counts of indecent assault on a minor and four counts of producing indecent child images. One of the girls was eight. Anyway, he didn't write it, thankfully. Two little boys had two little toys Each had a wooden horse Gaily they played each summer's day Warriors both of course One little chap then had a mishap Broke off his horse's head Wept for his toy then cried with joy As his young playmate said Did you think I would leave you crying When there's room on my horse for two Climb up here Jack and don't be crying I can go just as fast with two When we grow up we'll both be soldiers And our horses will not be toys And I wonder if we'll remember When we were two little boys Long years had passed, war came so fast Bravely they marched away Cannon roared loud, and in the mad crowd Wounded and dying lay Up goes a shout, a horse dashes out Out from the ranks so blue Gallops away to where Joe lay Then came a voice he knew Did you think I would leave you dying When there's room on my horse for two Climb up here Joe, we'll soon be flying I can go just as fast with two Did you say Joe I'm all a-tremble Perhaps it's the battle's noise But I think it's that I remember When we were two little boys Do you think I would leave you dying There's room on my horse for two Climb up here Joe, we'll soon by flying Back to the ranks so blue Can you feel Joe I'm all a tremble Perhaps it's the battle's noise But I think it's that I remember When we were two little boys |

I havent heard it in ages and still maybe not ready
But it is "Johnny Run to the Window" by Pozo Seco Probably not too many people ever heard of that group. Why? Because my Mom used to play it for me when my Dad would come on leave, late 1960s Then watching him drive up in his VW beetle, almost like the song. I miss him every day |
