I have one on an AR I don't use much, and just tried to turn it on after not touching it for 6 months and it was dead. I put energizer ultimate lithium batteries in the sight less than a year ago, and those things are supposed to be able to sit for like 10 to 15 years without discharging, so I'm pretty pissed. Probably going to return it.

L3 has headquarters in NYC, EOTech's are in Ann Arbor, MI.   Return processing is all going through Ann Arbor.  I'm going with "a joke" as another poster said.

Do you know that envelope is from L3? I can't see where that envelope is from, only its post mark.
Although, I'm hoping it is fake, I'm just waiting for someone to post an actual refund check.

nvm

what all is everyone saying?

does something like "concern for reliability" work or do we have to note a problem.

and at this point, no one has received a refund yet - is that right?

Filled out the form.  Now just a waiting game.  It hasn't worked in 3 years (552 model, batt contacts are shot) so I won't miss it.

Was going to send it in, but I missed the free fix window and wasn't about to pay the $60 plus shipping for the fix.

We'll see.

Just say "Requesting refund for $_____".

They know there's an issue so no explanation is needed, and frankly they probably don't want to read it. I put exactly what I have quoted there and it was approved.

A few broken Trijicons isn't the same as a company knowingly defrauding its civilian and government customers with false claims about performance and discussing plans on how to best hide the lack of testing and the known defects in order to protect their sales figures.

That's shifty fucking practice no matter the company or the product.

I am not an owner, (I am more of an Trijicon person) but wanted to put things in perspective --- you get to play with an optic for years and then they refund your payment. That is actually an awesome deal you are getting. They are dealing with a catastrophe as best as they can, managing this disaster.

I cannot see Trijicon or Aimpoint refunding you after you use their devices, no way.

Now this may be a forced move after years of denial, they finally got caught with their pants down, by the government.

I wonder if this is the end of them and ruins their credibility.

Since the 551's were discontinued, they're no longer listed on EOTech's site. So I used the $469, which was the price I found on a cached page from Opticsplanet.com. I don't have the link any longer, though. My RMA was approved for the $469 plus sales tax.

Trijicon and Aimpoint didn't admit to lying to the US govt, THEIR CUSTOMERS, nor did they commit fraud in an attempt to cover it up after their top officials learned of it. I could see them doing the same thing and refunding everyone and their mother if they did. But they didn't did they?

Optics Planet is one of their licensed distributors. That price is correct for the refund. I honestly think you can put anything that "sounds right" there and they would honor it and cut a check.

I sent an xps2 and exps3 back in for refund earlier this past week.  One has the dimming reticle problem and the other I've not noticed a problem.

I really do like the concept of their product much more than Aimpoint.  The FOV, the reticle and the fact that its a HWS were all enough to trump the Aimpoint battery life advantage for me personally.  This is not a knock on Aimpoint as I like their optics very much...I just liked Eotechs a bit more.  Plus they looked badass on my carbine and my sbr.

After their admission, I can't say I trusted my Eotechs any less but their current lineup are now the less attractive option to me.  It's like buying a Ferrari only to find out Ferrari outsourced the design and mfg to Fiat.  Suddenly that purebred machine you though you owned is now a cheaper version of the real thing.

That said, if L3 comes in and fixes Eotech's problems, introduce an improved new product (one that is fully and legitimately tested) with maybe some enhancements even...I would not hesitate to buy from them again.

People are predicting doom for the EOTECH name.  Isnt EOTECH still on track to bring their 5x magnifier to market next year?  Wont they want a new HWS to pair with it?  Has anyone actually said they're going to lose their government contract?  Not everyone is going to turn in the optics for refund.  In fact it might still be a small number of people who even care enough to do so.  How many EOs were purchased to mount on an M&P-15 sitting in a safe or closet corner?

this is exactly why I am refunding my 511.  The damn thing chews through batteries while turned off.  I contacted L3 support regarding this a couple of years ago and was told to pound sand. They basically said this is simply how eotechs work and there is always a draw on the batteries even when turned off and that the sight should be stored without batteries installed.  Ok, well I can maybe understand this for long term storage, but I don't consider 4-5 months long term.  I mean my cheap primary arms red dot has been stored with batteries in it for years without issue!  I would have offloaded the sight long ago, but I couldn't sell the thing in good conscious to somebody else.  So yeah, to hell with L3, give my refund bitches.

Yes and no. You could say that to the people who send in their sights for repair as well (with any manufacture). We contacted Eotech through their website. We received an email from the company with instructions on how to proceed. The same faith is in play as one who sends a product in for repairs.

Heck, I got an RMA for a 551 manufactured in 2003. The 551, unlike the 511, is discontinued. If they'll approve a refund on a 12 year old, discontinued sight, I can't imagine they'd deny one on a model they still produce.

Agreed.  I have used my 2 eotechs for 10 years now.. flawless use, and honestly I strongly considered sticking with them because nobody else has as good a reticle, but on the other hand here is the chance to get off N cells, wait for them to Fix the problem and then get the new thing, or alternately keep the old thing and have it be literally worthless, and always wonder if it will fail me horribly.  The biggest motivator behind me actually requesting the return is that I am a fair weather range guy, so I have NEVER tried using the optic anytime except on a nice warm sunny day.. if SHTF I wont get to be so picky.

Good luck with that. I almost sent mine through USPS for that reason only (my Dad has been a mailman for 40 years) but went with UPS because I realized the mail fraud claim for my sight, with USPS, would go nowhere......look into it. Mail fraud happens all the time. The USPS will not return your money if you get ripped off.

Some of it gets investigated.
The FBI and Kern County Sherriff showed up because my roommate mailed two packages to the wrong addresses.
He sold the stuff on eBay.  He fixed the issue but the guy that filed the claims never pulled it after everything was fixed.

Dealing with USPS's claims department for a fuckup on their part is a motherfucking NIGHTMARE. Been dealing with these worthless flunkies for going on three months now over a gun barrel they destroyed. I can't even imagine having to drag them into something like this...

That being said, I highly doubt EOTech fails to make good on their part. Can you imagine the class-action shitstorm that would ensue? Let's not forget this involves virtually every .gov LEO agency and the military, as well as state and local LEO departments, and all sorts of outfits across the globe.
