My wife is supposed to be flying out of Panama City Tuesday morning. Will the airport be operational. Not sure of the timeline when they shut everything down and strap er all up.

Well I just got home. Was up north for family events. OTW down I95 I passed a ton of out of state utility trucks heading southbound and saw a T-Mobile emergency command post also. It should be interesting. Tomorrow is a work day hurricane prepping the home. I already have my water and food and fuels stashed. Wish me luck but I’m more worried about my youngest son in Largo.

In Crystal River on the west side of 19. Just got a new roof on like a month ago. Hope to not have to test it out again.
Also, hopefully we wont have manatees stuck in the surge and driven inland. |

In Pinellas County shelters are opening at 0600 on Tuesday. I get the privilege of riding this one out in South St. Pete.

Mr. Twitchy, I will be at an elementary school on 5th Ave South. I will be thinking about your part of town for obvious reasons.

Yep..... 19 is like a Levy in Pasco/Hernando/Citrus Co ........ and you don't want to be on the W. Side of it. I've got some friends in Hernando Beach, and Aripeka ..... they have some important decisions to make tomorrow. I'm in Land O Lakes in Pasco, and my parents live in Odessa in NW Hillsborough. I have no doubt we will be without power for at least 2 weeks if the Euro model is accurate. Tornados are the wild card ......... the only thing I can't prepare for without evacuating. This sucks..... |

…here I am, at my son’s in Key West and I’m heading back to Pennsylvania this evening.
With my luck, I’ll be driving through the storm the whole way home! |

I live in the mountains of Valrico. Not worried about flooding. We are about 50 feet above sea level. We all have to worry about wind damage. I expect power outage for quite a bit of time. Downed trees will be all over the place. 10+ inches of rain on top of the saturation at the end of the rainy season will be a major problem for a lot of people.
We have a 2200 watt generator, 30 gals of gas for the generator, plenty of food and water and a small backup window AC unit. Unless we get a tornado we should be OK. However, it will be a pain in the ass for awhile. At Cat III or Cat IV hurricane moving through Tampa Bay will be a major pain in the ass for a couple of million people. |

|
Brother and sister-in-law moved from Seattle after he retired. They did not want to move back to Houston area. Too many hurricanes.
So they moved to the villages in Florida. They have the generator scheduled to be installed in November |
|
|
Note the forecast shows a slow movement which is ripe for a strong flood risk. That is secondary to the forecasted landfall location. But is something people need to pay attention to in addition to wind speeds
|
|
Yep slow assed movement could get you a Harvey type situation

Flying into Orlando Wednesday afternoon. Supposed to stay the night in Daytona beach and then head to Islamorada in the Keys for the rest of the week. Am I fooked?

View Quote Yeah I would try to see if you can get refunded or reschedule. I wouldn’t be surprised if your flight gets cancelled. While on its current track you should be pretty safe in Daytona, it’s probably going to be a zoo on I4 from people evacuating to the east coast. On the current track Islamorada should be fine for the most part, however it’s going to be extremely rainy Wednesday-Saturday. |

Closest you really want to be is Pensacola. If you’re risk averse, anyway. |

View Quote 100% agreed. Even if the eye doesn’t cross in SWFL - the top right quadrant is likely to flood and winds will be max for the category. My neighbors in Sanibel are all yawning over this. Anyone remember in ‘04 when Charley was supposed to hit the Bay Area? Everyone evacuated to Orlando and then it cut early and went up I4 and screwed all the evacuees. |

Quoted: Most of you probably already know this, but I just wanna remind everyone that the current path of the storm would have the front right quadrant as the leading edge toward Tampa Bay which will actually sweep in a ton of water, that's pretty much the worst scenario. It's based on the counter clockwise rotation of the storm, and the water that it's going to push up ahead on that front right quadrant. With Irma, the storm passed Tampa on the east, so being on the opposite side of the counter clockwise rotation, on the left quadrants, it drove water out and sucked the bay dry. I wouldn't expect that on this one. View Quote |

SEEKING INPUT FROM THOSE IN ORLANDO & LAKELAND (not safety or evac related):
I have a D trip planned for this week. We were going to drive down on Wednesday. We had outdoor events planned for Thursday, obviously that is not going to happen. We also had Legoland tickets for Saturday, which is down in the Lakeland area. The wife is pretty bummed, and we are thinking about delaying the trip, maybe leave on Friday and push the Legoland day out into the middle of next week. I am generally worried about Orlando due to possible long term power outtages, but I am mainly worried about Legoland being much closer to the coast than Orlando. Do you guys think Lakeland will be somewhat normal by mid next week? Thanks for input. |

Current track I wouldn't worry about Orlando much other than increased traffic from Tampa evac. Winter Haven (Legoland) I don't think will be too bad from storm other than shity weather for a few days (baring a tornado dropping out in the wrong place). Legoland on Saturday will probably be fine, if there is power. I'd push the trip back though if possible. You never know with hurricanes. This one could end up being the ONE that wipes out St Pete, Tampa, Orlando that they have been talking about for decades, or it could peter out and hit the panhandle as a Cat 1. You just never know. If I didn't live here, I certainly would not be making plans to come during or just after a potential catastrophic event.
