Quoted: Yes.. A long time ago, I had heard, that the Manatee river was sucked dry due to a powerful hurricane? Anna Maria Island is supposedly shutting down the water one hour after sunset tomorrow. They are also starting the mandatory evacuation at 8 AM tomorrow? Lived in the area since 74.. and hardly anyone ever evacuates that island. That place floods during major storms big time. Hopefully the AMCP and the rod n reel pier will survive. Rod n reel pier was built in 1947. Irma damaged the Anna Maria City Pier, and it was shut down for a long time. View Quote Yup, I lived on Anna Maria during Hurricane Andrew. We didn't evacuate, we rode out the storm. Pretty much all the dry land on the entire island was under about 2 ft. of water. When I opened my back door in the morning there was literally a sea turtle swimming in my backyard. We moved not too long after that happened. Worst decision ever because our $30,000 dollar house would be worth over a mil now. |

Great.
I'm supposed to fly to Columbus, GA on Thursday. Going to be a ton of travel delays amd bad weather to fly through, I'm sure. |

I was inland, just east of AMI, during hurricane Andrew. Right after Andrew went down to Marco Island to check a property.. and there was significant damage down there. To this very day.. along Alligator alley, in some spots, you can still see where several tornadoes just totaled all trees and vegetation, the closer you get towards Miami. st |

I'm interested to see what tomorrow's Lake Level Report will be. My property inland is on the waterway, and several large boats were spotted heading east across Lake O. For anyone considering bugging out from the west coast I'd recommend considering south and east versus running north. While 75 is starting to get busy route 80 and 27 across and south were almost empty today and will probably stay that way. There's been recent work on both roads to build deep ditches, and I feel pretty good about them being safe in heavy rains. Hotels in Fort Lauderdale are almost empty. The Below Deck crew was at Bo's Beach Day Bar yesterday, and we ran up the New River and bar hopped all afternoon yesterday and had the places to ourselves. By this weekend it's supposed to be 80's/90's and sunny again, and there are worse places to ride out this mess if you need to. |

Quoted: Take the worst thunderstorms you've seen. Now enjoy that for 48hrs. Closer you are to the eye....the harder the winds..... Oh. And they are awesome at night.... View Quote You're right about Hurricanes at night. My first was Charley. I was in an apartment at that time. The power went out and the upstairs neighbor was out on the patio drinking. Every time a transformer would explode and light up the sky, the neighbor would yell "Woohoo". Nothing to do without power, so I went to bed. When my family asked how it was, I told them I slept through it. I found out the key to power restoration was to be on the same grid as the emergency services (fire, police, hospitals, government services) as they get priority. I was without power for one day. My co-workers had no power for two weeks. I remember watching this cloud roll in and kept thinking about the scene for Independence Day with the alien ship settling in over the cities. Not my photo, but burned into my memory Attached File |
