Tombstone of the 2.
I also thought Perdition was a pretty good flick. |
|
Tombstone was the better movie, in the sense that it's cast and production values were better and it was very entertaining.
There is a long story on the production of Tombstone with several old west experts saying the original script was AMAZING from an historical perspective but something happened, the director got shit canned and the script was re-written more "Hollywood". Still a great movie though. I also loved Wyatt Earp, which was basically a biography, which is my favorite genre for reading and movies/TV. Kilmer's Holliday was more entertaining but Quaid's was much more realistic, and for that reason, I prefer Quaid's version. I also think Russel as Wyatt Earp is one of those "born to play......" roles. |
|
As fun as it is, as good Val Kilmer's Holliday is... Tombstone doesn't have this scene.

Tombstone is more fun and easy to watch in bits and pieces.
Wyatt Earp is good but really requires you to sit down and watch all the way through. I prefer Tombstone. |

Val Kilmer made Tombstone a great movie. The remake of True Grit with Jeff Bridges is right up there with it IMO.

I wish you would’ve taken the actors who played in Tombstone and put them in Wyatt Earp. I like Tombstone better but wish it had been more detailed like Wyatt Earp.
The guy they had plying Curly Bill? What a shit actor. The guy they had playing Ike? Shit actor as well. Kevin Costner saying “My names Wyatt Earp!” Yeah...I would’ve laughed at him too. There were a lot of things I liked about the movie but there were some real cheesy lines. |

If you're just looking for a semi-biopic on Wyatt Earp, then "Wyatt Earp."
As far as colorful characters, action, memorable lines, then "Tombstone." Plus, Attached File |

I think Tombstone is easier to watch, it just flows better and has a comedic aspect to keep it rolling. Wyatt Earp seemed to drag on and on. If I want to watch a western that is on forever then I’ll watch Lonesome Dove, which is a fantastic mini series/movie.

Historical accuracy = Wyatt Earp
Badassery = Tombstone My choice Tombstone... |
|
Also, we can just get Young Guns and Young Guns II and call it a day.

Dang it! Now I'll have to rewatch both!
Best Gun fight IMHO is in Open Range. Brutal! |

I really like them both, but the first half hour of WE dragged on. I know the death of his wife greatly affected Wyatt Earp throughout his life, but damn, it made for boring cinema. Yeah, I'm a cold bastard, but get to the OK Corral shootout, already!
But of both movies, the scene in WE where Wyatt and Doc Holliday first meet is one of my favorites. |

Quoted: Probably one of my top 5 remote droppers is Tombstone. Never saw the movie Wyatt Earp until tonight. To beat Tombstone to me is a tall order. I felt as if there was not as much detail to the bad guys in WE than in TS. I also feel as if WE could have been at least an hour shorter. Weird at how both movies got the story lines VERY close to each other. Morgan dying on the pool table, the train station scene in Tuscon And what the hell is with John Behan being such a weasel? BOTH movies! So which did you like better? View Quote Is this one of those special test that roots out who is a commie and who isn't? Wyatt Earp movie couldn't carry Tombstone's jock strap. |

Quoted: Tombstone View Quote Agree ... Tombstone x100 for the Big Win. 'Why, Johnny Ringo, you look like somebody just walked over your grave." https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PsJFrwLl6HU The only downside is: Val Kilmer got robbed of what should've been a well-deserved Oscar. |

Tombstone has more flash. Wyatt Earp has more substance. I love both movies, but I prefer Wyatt Earp.

Val Kilmer made Tombstone with his portrayal of Doc Holiday. Add in Kurt Russel, Bill Paxton, Sam Elliot, Stephen Lang, Powers Boothe, and the legendary Charlton Heston and it’s a masterpiece.
Wyatt Earp just seems to drag on. |

This is like Armageddon vs Deep Impact. While Tombstone/Wyatt Earp were released a little further apart, they were still too close together. Deep Impact is a good movie, but Armageddon is better in almost every way. Had there been 2 years between the two Deep Impact would have been remembered as a much better movie.
I feel the same way about Tombstone and Wyatt Earp. Wyatt Earp was good, but Tombstone is better in almost every way. |

Wyatt Earp is WAY better.
Tombstone is a good movie but anyone who prefers it over Wyatt Earp is an ADD addled simpleton who thinks Bad Boys is high art. |
|
Gunfight at OK Corral with Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster was pretty damn good. Especially Douglas as Doc.
Tombstone was the better movie of the two choices offered, I thought. No GD fans of Big Nose Kate? |

Quoted: This is like Armageddon vs Deep Impact. View Quote First thing I thought of. Deep Impact was more serious in tone and Wyatt Earp may be more in-depth and historically accurate(except for the costumes) but there's a reason I've seen Armageddon and Tombstone way more times. Edit: Apparently it's because I'm an ADD-addled simpleton. Speaking of costumes, here's something I found the last time I watched it: https://truewestmagazine.com/tombstone-right-look/ |

I can't speak to historical accuracy, but Tombstone entertained me much more.

Quoted: Quaid's Doc was the only thing about W.E. that I did not care for. Was kind of pulling for B.N.K. when she fired the revolver. They're both good movies, one is about a small part of W.E.'s life, and the other, much more detailed. The scene in W.E. where Wyatt explains to the wives why they don't rate as high as the brothers, and the end scene, when Earp and Josie are on the ship,,, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Acpi2hwHadU I do prefer Wyatt Earp. Jay View Quote I've read several books on the earp's and doc holiday and I suspect quaids doc holiday is actually close to reality. The way he's described is educated, but arrogant and kind of a prick. Kilmer did a great job but he was pretty likeable. Not many people liked actual doc holiday |
