Hospitals in Fl are still doing that crap? My daughter was born Oct of 2020 and I was the only person allowed in and once I got there I was locked in until we were released. Wife had to be induced so the total stay was three days. The guys guarding the exit and entrance  to the post birth recovery wing were no joke and armed. Attempting to get past those guys would prob result in catching a mag dump.

As fast as they're kicking new moms and their babies out the door these days, if you exercise a little patience you can visit the new mom at home tomorrow. Or she can visit you on visiting days at the county jail......

There's probably a lobby or hospital cafeteria that is still accessible to the public. Hang out there, text your son where you are waiting. When he feels up to coming down and seeing you after the kid is born, he'll be able to find you

Does any new parent actually want family there for the birth?  I am genuinely curious.  My wife and I didn’t want any family at the hospital for the birth of any of our children.  It is hectic enough as is at the hospital.  Plus, we were released within 2 days every time so it isn’t like the grandparents can’t see the baby soon after the birth.

Mother baby units are locked units and the staff doesn't fuck around with people trying to sneak in. Not sure how serious OP is but I would wait a few days and visit them all at home.

Serious question and not being rude: do the parents want visitors so soon after birth? It’s a very overwhelming time for parents, and depending on personality types, many would prefer their privacy. We didn’t take visitors until we got home from the hospital. It might be good to have a very honest conversation with them and make sure they actually want visitors.

Congrats on the grandson!

Virtually all our friends with kids either didn’t have visitors in the hospital or regretted that they did. We were firm that we didn’t want any extended family at the hospital, and are glad we made that decision.

You don't want to be in the room and she probably doesn't want you in the room either. No one needs to see the horrors that come out until the kid is all bathed and prepared for photos, OBs and L/D nurses deserve every penny they earn.

Your angle is to wait to see the baby until the parents bring it home.

I ran security in addition to EHS at a hospital about 15 years ago. Even then getting into the maternity unit was very difficult. ID, wristband, multiple checkpoints. In the era of covid, it's harder.

You will not get into the birth, you will not go unnoticed. Workmen going to that area were identified against work orders and their company contacted, photo id was required prior to getting any sort of hospital id that would allow access and you were never alone. Then you were checked again by hospital security at the point of access. I've left out some of the finer points.

If you did by some miracle of everyone else fucking up and allowing you to slip into the unit, you were cuffed and escorted to a waiting police car. And, I guarantee one of my guys beat you to the courthouse.

Probably not how you'd like to spend the day.

Trust me, nurses on those units take infant security more seriously than they do breathing. And, if they think your son had anything to do with it.....expect calls to be made, FD and PD relationships with hospitals are very good.

My advice, be a grown up. Stay home.

In the trash outside you will find some name tag patient bracelets, put one on. Have an assless gown on, get one of those IV trees with IV tubing. Tape tubing to arm. Be outside and loiter with a menthol cigarette in your mouth. Then walk in like you own the place

Tape some gauze to your neck. Leg in an ace bandage, cervical car accident collar is good to, for sealing the deal

Just walk in. My friends wife was in the hospital this summer,  and his phone was dying, so being the nice guy i am, i dropped off a charger, I walked in the front door, through  the lobby, up the elevator, down a hall and to a waiting room, sll without a mask on. Nobody said a word to me.

ETA I hope you don’t expect to be in the delivery room or wandering the maternity ward, you don’t belong there. Wait in the waiting area like it has always been.

Access the elevator shaft and go in through the ductwork John McLane style.  Bring an MP5 with a sling so you can lower yourself to the correct floor.

Grandma doesn't need to be there for the delivery. Just show up when they are out of recovery with flowers and food. Ok if I was doing it, most nurses are fat ham planets, so bring in like 3 boxes of dozen dunkin donuts, one for the first station sign in, one for nurses station at L&D and another one as backup if you get lost and diverted to wrong floor. Some hospitals the ER is on different floor than recovery of L&D...

Some people we knew years back would get one of those 1980's VHS camcorders, a big battery operated light, a mic and a cord and would walk around the local parades as a news crew and could get a lot of people to talk and do stuff, especially the good looking gals

You’re not getting in the new born ward without a badge to unlock the door, period. The approach that I see works the best during covid times, is call and ask to speak to the CEO. Tell him/her that their hospital has always been your choice for your family for health care. Ask is there any possible way during this special time could they see it in their heart to let you have a short exemption and visit for a brief time. Ours says yes all the time. It’s actually written into the covid policy that administration can allow exemptions.

I will tell you what I did............took my father to the hospital a couple of days ago for a procedure, but they would only allow my mother in. Well, I watched the woman who told me I couldnt come in, and when she left her desk, I asked her replacement where the bathroom was..............went to the bathroom and took a detour and went straight to where he was, no questions asked

Yep and if you don’t have a chip badge to tap on the doors you aren’t going anywhere. You used to be able to draft people opening the doors, but all the training now makes personnel confront them and call the sheriffs stationed in the ER.

A Carhartt duck jacket, well worn jeans, boots, and a metal clipboard will open most any door.

Years ago the old mill building where I worked had a fire in a ladies bathroom on another floor. My boss was having an aneurysm, because she left her purse and laptop in her office. My EMS Gumby jacket allowed me to retrieve her stuff in about three minutes.

All that said, a maternity wing is typically locked down like the SHU at Pelican Bay.

Based on the security systems and protocols I've seen in modern L&D wings, you are likely going to lock down the entire area and get swept away to jail with a quickness by a bunch of cops if you try what you're suggesting.

As a tech contractor who regularly works in hospitals, the L&D areas are always treated as highly secure. You're not going to Columbo your way in.

1. I'm hoping you don't plan to be in the room while baby makes his appearance. If you are, don't. For the love of God don't do that.

2. Maternity wards are fairly secure. Ours you have to call from outside the locked doors to be let in. Tell them the room. Act like you belong.

3. Getting in our hospital required the room and a special code number to be let in. That's before #2 above.

4. Every hospital is different but for our baby in July the nurses were way cool. We just tried not to abuse it. Both grandparents would come for a while. Then next set of grandparents. Hell my brother and his wife came and made it all the way to us without masks.
