Quoted: I heard this today. Guy knows I'm a shooter. He owns guns and shoots. Says he doesn't carry a gun cause his wife doesn't want him to so he never got a permit. I'm not married so I can't comment. If a GF told me that I'd laugh and tell her that's cute. View Quote |

When I was married and my wife first got pregnant, she and her mom cornered me to have a talk about guns. They attempted to “lay down the law” and explain to me that I needed to get rid of my gun collection because I was “about to become a father”, and, “needed to think about safety”.
I firmly but politely explained that no such thing is going to happen because I am a grown man and I will not be told what to do by them nor by anyone else. The only concession I offered was to add a small safe for the pistol I carry daily, and that I would lock my pistol in this safe when I am not carrying it holstered on my hip. I further reassured them that no firearms would be left unattended outside of my main gun safe. I finished by saying that if this isn’t enough, too bad, deal with it. He needs to act like a man and do what he thinks is right, regardless of what others think - including his wife. If a threat ever comes their way, it probably won’t be her facing the danger. EDIT: Since getting divorced, and after observing the tyranny take hold in 2020, my ex-wife has changed her mind about guns. She admitted to me that she always felt I was stupid and paranoid for wasting time and money on guns and ammo, but she now understands that I was right. |

I would get my CCW and see what she says.
After she says or does what she wants to say or do I’d carry a gun to see what she would say or do. I really shouldn’t give marriage advice. |

Women can be utterly stupid.
I was looking for women to date a few years back. Met a beautiful slender blonde from Russia. Her parents fled and raised her here. She asked early on what I had planned one weekend and told her I was helping my dad to learn how to reload. The conversation went pretty dead from there and I knew why. A week or so I sent her a what the fuck text. She said she wont date anyone that used guns. I told her to ask her parents how communism was and if they were enjoying the freedom we have because of guns and immediately blocked her. |

Questions about personal freedoms, financial responsibilities, children, sex, family should all be definitively answered before marriage is considered.

I was in a Marine Corps uniform when I first met her. After marriage and she realized that her fantasy of my family being extremely wealthy and I was just hiding it, then she became anti-gun. Did not stop my shooting activities. I later had to divorce her.

Well, as frequently happens” I’m looking at this thread from the other side of the gender divide. But …
I can’t recall my husband ever telling me I couldn’t do something. But if he did, I suppose I’d do what I’ve done once or twice in previous relationships, to wit, I’d say, “I love you, Precious. But if you intend to continue taking your comfort between these chubby little thighs, you’ll back away from this one.” |

Quoted: My ex-wife told me she hated that I had guns a couple years in to our marriage. I told her to fuck off because she had even shot them while we were dating. It was only one of the long list of reasons for the divorce. Wife 2.0 was the first person in our county to get a non-restricted non-professional permit to carry. Wasn’t an option for her to say no. Good thing she’s on my side and fine with it so we didn’t have to have that discussion.

Thats one circumstance that aint up to the wife!
If she lodged a complaint it would be duly noted? But thats an individual choice! Period! |

I would show her where the door is and then mansplain how to use it.

I would do whatever I want. Adults have no authority over other adults.

I'd go and get a carry permit. And get my wife under control.

What part of concealed does your friend not understand?
The conversation. Honey bun, I love you and don't ever want to see you hurt at the hands of another person if I am able to prevent it. I am going to obtain a concealed carry permit so that I have the option to use a weapon to prevent any harm to you [or our children]. This is the love I have for you. I will also take a class to learn how to safely carry a weapon and to also be able to recognize the proper times to use a concealed weapon. This is the love I have for you. Your wellbeing is my number one priority. Your understanding in this matter is appreciated. I would not stop you from [performing XXX] as a token of your understanding and a thank you for my sacrifice to keep you safe. |

I don't think I could be in a lasting relationship with an antigun girl. Fortunately, my wife pushed me harder to get a CCW than I did myself. It's not that I was opposed, I just always made sure I had the right tool(s) for the intended job.

I remember about a year into my first marriage the wife and I went to the grocery store and parked on the sidewalk was a brand new 1986 Kawasaki GPz 750. While I was drooling all over it the wife proceeded to inform me that there was no way in hell I was buying a motorcycle. I bought my first Honda VFR750 Interceptor the next morning, I wish I still had it. Anyway we were married 32 years and she never again told me what I could or couldn't do or what I could or couldn't buy

Collaborate with your buddy to have you bang on his front door at 2am and scare the shit outta the wife.
He’ll be applying for his permit the next day. |

I would get one.
But I'm biased. Retired police officer, and never left the house unarmed. Still don't. |

Do it anyway and tell her its happening.
Fortunately my wife would never do that. She usually asks to confirm I’m armed before walking out the door. At one point, many years ago, she asked something like “what you do do if I asked you to sell all your guns?” Explained to her that she knew I was passionate about firearms well before we were married and that will never change. Absolute non starter of a conversation and I made it clear. For whatever reason, she was “just curious of what I’d say.” |
